QUOTE(civic98 @ Oct 6 2007, 07:37 AM) Wow. Thats cheaper than I expected. No wonder so many ppl asking about it...QUOTE(eugeneyou @ Oct 6 2007, 10:24 AM) thx bro...me in UK now and plannin to get 40D. 2 lenses plus body = 1000 BP Hmm... Im not sure if it will be more expensive or cheaper there. BUt a 70-200mm in your arsenal of lenses will come in handy. I dare not say it is a must for you, but for me, Yes.is the 70-200 worth buying? |

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Oct 6 2007, 01:13 AM) Lots of ppl getting 40D as their 1st DSLR. I just read another thread newly opened with a similar request. I was quoted RM5900 for 40D + 17-85 kit lens in one of the shops in Low Yat..The 40D should come with a 18-55 IS kit lens. If you getting BODY only, it might be around the region of RM4.7K. Im not sure about the EF 55-200mm but the NEW 55-250mm IS is around RM900. The 17-85mm IS is around RM1k or a bit more maybe.....(COnfirmation needed here) So I would say around the region of RM6.5K-RM7K.....Thats my estimates.... EF 55-200 USM is about RM820 if I'm not mistaken... |

Normally. asian made products i.e. china taiwan etc are more expensive in europe. I saw that a couple of years ago in spain.
I guess the rational is the extra transport cost exporting that item there. I assume uk would be the same. try looking for other camera models or other electronic products and compare. Even the handphohnes are more expensive there. Hope this helps. |

QUOTE(spikeyblitz @ Oct 8 2007, 11:07 AM) Hi guys, am newly registered, but have been frequenting this site I think prices in Singapore will drop sooner than in Malaysia. But when newly launched it might be the same or even higher. So its better to sit tight for a while. Anyway, getting the first batches might not be a good idea. Let the bugs clear out first and get the later batches...I saw a Canon 40D + 17-85mm IS bundle for 2800 Aussie dollars... with the current exchange rate thats about 8000k ringgit... I saw someone using a beta version of the Canon 1Ds Mark III yesterday at a Canon workshop. Looks like one of the Canon Malaysia guys managed to get a hold of it. Looks awesome, didn't get a chance to test it out myself though...

QUOTE(CityLife @ Oct 6 2007, 10:32 AM) I've tried my friend's 400D. What i can say is that it is relatively easy to configure for beginners. The kit lens is quite dissapointing though compared to Olympus's E-510's kit lens. But as i said it's easier to setup and learn, and the 9 focus point is quite useful as well. Are you going buy DSLR? I would recommend you the Olympus E-510 if you have enough budget with twin lens. They will be fairly enough for you to cover almost every occasion if you team up with FL-36 flashgun. Anyway, just my preference and my two cents... |

Basically in any product which is manufactured, they have standard cycles.BETA version? There is such a thing? In terms of looks, it should look like the EOS 1D MkIII right? ES1 -> ES2 -> ES3 -> AP -> PP -> Production ES = Engineering Sample AP = Advanced production PP = Pre-production The number of stages for ES can vary to a development lifecycle. Usually PP sets are sent out to distributors and sales offices for trial runs and tests (sort of like an external QA) so that they can create some hype as well as receive initial feedback from their distributors and other field offices first. So the BETA version which I mentioned or the guy mentioned to me, I am guessing it is the Pre production model. |

QUOTE(Mavik @ Oct 8 2007, 04:23 PM) Basically in any product which is manufactured, they have standard cycles. In that case, the finished product would be of higher standards then. So we don;t have ot worry about the issues we've been seeing with the display units. Im wondering if those being sold previously as AP Sets were the actual AP models or PP sets? Thats alarming....ES1 -> ES2 -> ES3 -> AP -> PP -> Production ES = Engineering Sample AP = Advanced production PP = Pre-production The number of stages for ES can vary to a development lifecycle. That is company one....now bought one for personal use....
although i can "borrow" my company's to use......hehe..... Added on October 9, 2007, 12:08 amok....my first noob question..... i've been searching around for a zoom lens and i cam across all these terms on the lens.. USM, II USM, IS, II, III USM I've googled it and i know IS is image stablization lens...USM is ultrasonic motor.... but what's the difference between these lenses? IS is pretty self explainable....but what about USM, II USM, III USM, II, USM? This post has been edited by lokgotz: Oct 9 2007, 12:09 AM |

Those terms you mentioned are basically the Auto Focus motor and the Image Stabilizer Mechanism. USM Basically is the abreviation for ULTRASONIC MOTOR which is what makes AUTO FOCUSING on Canon EF/EF-S lenses so silent. You can try one with USM and compare it to one without like the EF 50mm F1.8 II. This particular lense has no USM and the auto focusing produces a scratch-thud like sound. The II in the name of the lens just indicates a 2nd generation of the lens with the EF 50mm F1.8 being the first one which came out before. The II generation probably has improvements in optics, focusing and build quality. Lenses with IS USM would incorporate both technologies into its housing. Nope that clears a bit of the jargon for you..... |

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Oct 9 2007, 12:42 AM) Welcome to the club Bro. wow....thanks for the speedy reply and the explanation....but besides the silentness of USM lenses, there are no other differences?
