I am considering getting EOS 400D.

I am also considering getting the following lenses;
EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM

a. I want to know are those 2 lense ok.
b. Is it cheaper to buy from Canon or Shop?
c. should i go for a prime lense?

I am using these 2 lenses at the moment. Probably the lightest L lenses in the market. Build quality is of the highest standard.

Logically, the lenses would be cheaper. if bought in shops at Low YAtt, Sungei Wang plaza or Amcorp Mall. But CANON Shops like the one in KLCC can bargain as well. Especially if u pay cash. I got my 70-200 F4 L IS from CANON KLCC as they were only RM1 more expensive than the shops outside I enquired from. PLus I know IM getting a good and new unit from them so thats a bit of comfort there. That lense is sharp and the IS and AF are great. IS offers 4 stops compensation over the older IS which is just 3 stops. But the IS Motor does make a louder noise than normal so don't get a shock when you use it.

The 17-40 F4L is a good lense as well. Though they have been comparisons showing that it lacks the sharpness compared to the Tamron model lens, I am happy with the sharpness of this lens. Build quality as usual is unsurpassed and its weather proofing is complete with a UV Filter installed in front of the 77mm threaded tip. The 70-200 F4 L IS unfortunatly is on a 67mm thread so sharing is out of the question.

Prime lense, go for the 50mm f1.8 because its cheap and produces good bokeh. Build quality is what you get for that price but its still good to have it.

I never thought we could bargain at these Canon shops..

Neither did I in the beginning, till I called them. The first thing they would ask is if you're paying cash? Then they'll lower the prices even more. Maybe this applies to DLSR Lenses only ?

Has anybody purchase anything from Boeing (in Sg. Wang) before?

Thought of getting 400D from them.. But having doubt of the original products..

Being from Johor. Most of the time I will have to read up posts on where to buy camera stuffs and Boeing seems to be a place many have mentioned or suggested going to. I have been there but have yet to get anything from them as the items I wanted weren't the cheapest I have scouted so I got them from other places. But regarding warranty issues, as long as the Camera's warranty sheet is RED in colour and is of Canon Malaysia then it should be ok. Besides that place, J-One at AMCORP Mall is another place many Johorean Photographers have suggested me going to as well so it would be good if you can check them out.....

Camera shop always cheaper than the Canon 'boutique'..i reckon.

Canon 'boutique' is more to RRP (Recommended Retail Price) whilst camera shops, they get Dealers Prices...

Well if you're thinking one time swipe credit card payment, I've encountered mostly 1% extra or most of them 2%. The installment plans I've seen are mostly 4-5% extra. Bintang Maju I know offers 4% for installment plan. Fotokem is 5% and their one time swipe charge is 2%. I have yet to check out J-One so can't help u there. Didn't deal in CC with Canon KLCC so not sure if they charge extra or not with CC.

what do u mean by cannot share? the filter kan?

Yes. What I meant is the filter size. Mount is still the same. EF Mount. But filter size for the 70-200 F4 L IS is 67mm wherelse more lenses are having a 77mm thread which you can easily share around the filters with. Especially when filters for this kind of lenses run up to few hundreds for a CPL and above RM100 for a UV from brands like HOYA.

67mm is very limited in canon lenses. perhaps apply more to nikon ?

Canon EOS 40D + EF-S 17-85mm IS + Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM

Lots of ppl getting 40D as their 1st DSLR. I just read another thread newly opened with a similar request.

The 40D should come with a 18-55 IS kit lens. If you getting BODY only, it might be around the region of RM4.7K. Im not sure about the EF 55-200mm but the NEW 55-250mm IS is around RM900. The 17-85mm IS is around RM1k or a bit more maybe.....(COnfirmation needed here)

So I would say around the region of RM6.5K-RM7K.....Thats my estimates....

I asked 2 days back at Canon's Shop in Low Yat, 40D body only RM4,300.00...

thx bro...me in UK now and plannin to get 40D. 2 lenses plus body = 1000 BP
