QUOTE(Chinoz @ Jul 31 2017, 09:49 AM) I was comparing between the Forester 2.0 XT and the Outback previously. Thats a C-segment SUV vs D-segment wagon... Ultimately went with the Outback for the following reasons: - interior felt more premium - slightly wider, seats 3 across in the rear more comfortably - longer car, deeper boot - easier ingress/egress (car not so tall) There used to be a D-segment SUV called Tribeca(using the same engine as the current outback 3.6 H6), but bad sales in US (because of the horrible look) made them killed that model. can still see some units running in SG, cause MI brought them in during the good days.. |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Aug 25 2017, 01:40 PM) This makes me wondered if safe coolant level can last within the service interval (10,000km)? It would be a hassle to go back to SC just to top up.... your engine cooling system is a closed system, which means you should not lose too much water for whatever reason. if you do lose water very quickly, that means there's a leak somewhere in the system.I noticed the coolant level dropped so much when we traveled on highway and if it jammed alot during that month. as long as the reserve tank has sufficient water (level sits between high and low), and your radiator is not drying up, you should be fine. dont worry too much.. and in the case of emergency, any water is better than no water. |

QUOTE(JungWoo @ Sep 5 2017, 12:30 PM) Is it me only or anyone feel forester car base really low compared to other suv. Not complain but that is really differentiate or subaru's car legacy? if you meant the sensation of flatter cornering/less bodyroll compared to other SUV, you can thank the boxer engine layout. |

QUOTE(Henry T @ Sep 13 2017, 09:19 PM) no it wont.you need better brake pads that work at higher temps if you drive down genting frequently. but higher temp pads might be more dusty, and noisier before it reaches the optimal working temp. the stock pad is designed for minimal dust and no noise, if you dont drive down genting frequently, best to stay stock and just use engine braking when necessary. |

QUOTE(angel of deauth @ Sep 14 2017, 09:36 AM) I've had my fair share of driving up and down Genting in many vehicles from tiny compacts to fully laden MPVs... even some truly horrible vehicles but I've never gotten near to brake fading. the forester's stock brake is not bad, it's already a 2p1p setup with 316mm disc in front..Were you riding the brakes? Or are the foresters brakes that poor? Engine/compression braking might be your best friend. I'm not criticising, just trying to understand. just need higher temp pads.. here's a good article on brakes.. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/brake-fa...-brake-upgrade/ This post has been edited by kevin613: Sep 14 2017, 02:16 PM |

QUOTE(^pomen_GTR^ @ Jul 5 2017, 11:06 AM) the only foward upgrade for you guys is brembo 4p/2p.... ditched the idea of swapping brembos.. found a set of practically new Forester XT front brakes for cheap.using the wrx 4p/2p is a downgrade since it has smaller disc size... 29Xmm diameter....versus brembo 30Xmm diameter if im correct.... and i head the 2015 wrx who swap into impreza wrx 4pot brake looses brake performance slightly.... AE.. i wont comment since this is public forum.... although not my experience....many of my friends have many stories.... why not my own experience? coz i work on my car myself Will be upgrading my stock front 276mm disc to new 316mm with bigger calipers. |

QUOTE(littlefire @ Sep 15 2017, 04:15 PM) Do take note on the sport rims since upgrade to bigger calipers & disc, if can fit with original 17" would be great. shouldn't be an issue.. i'm on 17" Prodrive GC-07 with +38mm offset, that's big enough and has enough offset clearance for the gold brembo 326mm discs. |

QUOTE(ultrabeast @ Sep 18 2017, 04:09 PM) Ok tq sifus @Zot & @littlefire. Seems to corroborate with two other forums which I happened to chance upon when Googling, both from US I think asking the same thing for Forester engine 2011 and 2014 version. the only thing bad about replacing fluids early is the hole on your wallet. If you can afford it, why not? But their question is more like the reverse of my question, is whether they can use 5W-40 instead of the 0W-20, and the discussion was that Q. will they get less mpg from using the more viscous oil? And they also mentioned the thinner oil is being eaten up by the engine at.. "a quart every 1000 miles".. or something like that... hence they were asking whether any harm to use the thicker oil. Thanks, guess can rest easy on this one... Another topic that came up was: do/would you all change the CVT transmission fluid at 20,000km (half of the "official" service's scheduled every 40,000km) ? Reason is that the quoted higher mileage to change was to create a good impression when compared against some standard(conservation/eco?) or against other manufacturers... but is not actually the most optimum for the health of your CVT... maybe some have experience with this or have similar experience with other cars. |

what's throttle valve? throttle body? or intake valve?
i doubt they can see the intake valve unless they took the engine apart.. most likely referring to dirt on throttle body, which is normal. The dust that sneak past your air filter will eventually end up on the whole intake system. Can DIY to clean it from time to time.. |

had my new brakes installed...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « first impression: initial bite is much stronger, and i dont have to stomp as hard to slow down at speed. more confident in stopping = can drive harder.. wahahaha.. QUOTE(ImiR @ Sep 24 2017, 07:12 AM) Mine varies. A couple of months ago, I tracked my full tank for about 10 times. Range between 375 km to 490 km. Generally I press my foot pedal hard and mostly stuck in jam or many traffic light stop and go moments. The high range I achieved when driving on highway with average speed of 130 kmh to 140 kmh. my daily driven manual old-tech EJ20 manages average of 460-490km per tank, and i typically upshift in 4-5k rpm region.. Yesterday, I drove on highway (car fully loaded with passenger and luggage) with average speed of 140 kmh (150 kmh max) and achieved about 9+ l/100 km fuel. FB20+CVT should be a lot more efficient. 375-490km per tank, thats hardcore pedal-to-metal driving... LOL |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Sep 25 2017, 01:21 PM) it is possible to install the air filter in the wrong direction, and it'll leave a gap.one way to know if it's installed wrongly previously is to check your filter box, try to swipe your finger on the inner surface of the "clean side" of the filter box to see if its dusty. |

QUOTE(ImiR @ Sep 26 2017, 08:10 AM) I found that my XV fuel consumption (fc) is very high i.e. 12l/100km and above (sometimes reach 16+l/100km) when in the following situation:- i'd say dont worry too much about that, it's just the way the fuel consumption calculator works.1. Cruising at below 40 kmh. 2. Idle running engine for eg while stopping at traffic light or waiting to pick up someone. When on highway and drives between 130 kmh to 150 kmh, I can't get fc below 9l/100km. I can get fc below 6l/100km if I drive below 90 kmh on highway. So based on my observation, ya XV's fc varies a lot. at the end of the day, the actual consumption at idle between all 2L engine (assuming idle RPM is the same), is going to be similar. so if other cars dont show high consumption when idle, then its just a matter of how honest is the fuel consumption calculator. i find the consumption calculator in subaru is fairly accurate, and the fuel meter is linear, so it's predictable. Unlike some car where the last 2 bar will drop faster than the rest.. |
