https://paul tan.org/2024/05/30/subaru-to-end-ckd-operations-in-malaysia/ the.end. expect prices to go up, and become uncompetitive. i guess at this point MI dont really care if they can sell in volume anymore. This post has been edited by kevin613: May 30 2024, 07:19 PM

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ May 31 2024, 12:03 PM) All moving towards China brands now because the market here want features and design, and they want it CHEAP precisely, TanChong will likely be focussing in CKD china cars now.. https://paul tan.org/2023/05/11/gac-ckd-project-officially-announced-next-gen-gs3-suv-tan-chong-invests-over-rm60m-segambut-plant/

QUOTE(frankzane @ Jun 3 2024, 06:45 PM) Really couldn't understand the move. Is it really no more demand for Subaru cars in SEA? its business afterall, which one moves more volume and make more profit, that is where they'll go.. they will still continue to sell subaru, but at CBU price, i would be surprise if they can hit 4 digit sales per model per year in MY, other market like SG is not affected at all, and will likely be their main focus for the subaru brand since everything is imported in SG, so its a level playing field.

QUOTE(littlefire @ Jun 4 2024, 10:04 AM) Yes, both Thailand & Malaysia plant already heard will convert to China cars & also EV range. Especially in Thailand their government give a lot of benefits for EV car assembly, if i am TC management i will also forego Subaru as they dont have a proper competing EV car (Even tho got Solterra, but too expensive for mass). Only hope is they will bring in more exciting models like the E-Boxer hybrid series over. I felt that it may still got some sales if the fuel price increase and hope hybrid cars still got tax rebate from government. the e-boxer are sold in SG market, but never really gain popularity

QUOTE(frankzane @ Jun 17 2024, 08:34 AM) I believe when they established the manufacturing plant in MY, and later to TH, was to reduce the transportation cost to cater for SEA market, not because these countries has big sales. Unless they now see that there is actually not much cost saving by exporting direct from Japan.... setting up factory is not only to reduce transportation cost, to maximize profit they will also aim to get CKD tax incentives (coveres the entire ASEAN, read up on AFTA) so they can be more competitive in pricing. Volume actually play a big part in decision making, as volume will directly translate into profit with every car they make and sell. In this case, it is more of which brand were forecasted to give TanChong more profit, and subaru is definitely at the losing end, hence the decision to drop subaru assembly in MY and TH. anyway TanChong decision to stop assembly for subaru will mean consumer and subaru lose out in the region

QUOTE(frankzane @ Jun 30 2024, 06:47 PM) Based on all these assumptions, do we all here think that one day, Subaru's brand will cease? it happened before in the early 2000s

QUOTE(mnicysoon @ Oct 10 2024, 10:58 PM) Hi, what are the pros and cons of having a forester XT. Any extra care for it? pros, POWAHH cons, need better engine oil and shorter oil change interval (i personally do 5k oil change interval for my turbo subaru) and run RON97 only. make sure you pick one that is well maintained and not modified.

QUOTE(littlefire @ Oct 14 2024, 01:47 PM) To answer this, mostly due to our air is high humidity & engine oil quality. If you ask engine oil people they will tell you once the engine oil is expose to air the engine oil will start deteriorate due to built up moisture in it. Unless you buy expensive engine oil with long change intervals (Some market as Long-Life) which the most also last around 2 years only. and dont forget the time when engine is idling in traffic, those wont clock mileage but will definitely wear out the oil.

QUOTE(littlefire @ Oct 23 2024, 09:18 AM) Can, the ECU can detune down the engine power but if you always like to high rev. a lot you might need to consider buying/adding octane booster to Ron95. A lot of cheapskate supercars owners also just pump Ron95 and add in octance booster. ecu will retard the ignition timing, which means your engine will run less efficiently, less power, less mileage so its up to individual to weigh and see if its worth to pump 95 (cheaper, less mileage) or 97(expensive, more mileage). and of course, your mileage will vary, cant guarantee you will see significant mileage increase by pumping 97, so you have to try it out yourself.

QUOTE(littlefire @ Nov 12 2024, 03:06 PM) No issue, but people if want upgrade direct jump up to 80D23L, 85D23L or 90D23L. The cost add up not much. +1, go to the highest capacity model that the price you are OK with, so there is more buffer for degradation over time.
