I should buy 2 units then flash them all to AC68 firmware now. I want to make 5GHz access points.
*
Good luck in getting the 2 units.
I think WS880 is off from the shelves.

Faced any issues with the new firmware ? as 68_1 was buggy and missing menu options i.e. QOS and Traffic.
Had to flash back to 67
*
Apart from missing menu and more refreshing GUI.
I don"t see much different.

Maybe I did feel not as stable, seem like I internet auto disconnected interval since upgraded. But I can't be sure due
lately also have minor issue Time and same time I also setting crontab to scheduled backup between my nas that might caused the issue.
Thus I don't know which is causing it.

I just go back 380.67 to check if still happening.

Anyone that's on tomato firmware
How stable is it now?
Can you use vpn when router is setup as wireless repeater with tomato?
On xwrt,  vpn is disabled when router is set as wireless repeater
*
Dun think any wrt or dwrt out there can have repeater and vpn together by default.

Set static IP
192.168.1.2~xxx

Set gateway
192.168.1.1

Ip Seem correct to me.

If you edited the WS880_trans.bin correctly, then you able to do it.
So count patiencely 20sec while holding reset during power on.

Another can thing can help is on command prompt (cmd), keep ping 192.168.1.1.
Once you see it is connected, login to 192.168.1.1 immediately.
You only have a short window of time when u release the reset button.

Lastly browser used also make some different. Try both IE and chrome.

Try to check the temperature, it is over heated?
Did you run any scripts?
I know i have something likes before when running rsync from crontab.
It would not response in ssh in some intervals and sometimes also hang before of the rsync.

Yeah I run scripts, but those scripts run middle of the night, so should not affect. Doing backup syncing between two locations, the WS880 in my house seems okay, but the one in the other house keep having this problem.

Any temp sensor to check?
*
Temperature, Can check from webgui → administration...

But you problem is the rsync commands, i found that if sync a folder with too much files, it also coz it to hang.
What i did is try to sync in many smaller folders.

I've been running nightly rsync since first got these routers back more than a year ago wor.... recently only starting to have problems. Thanks I'm not used to using UI for these things, always command line normally. Will check the UI.
*
Do you mind share your script on rsync?

Here is mine and i added to crontab to run on schedule.

Please delete your username/password.

Also mine is quite different because I'm syncing to another router in a different house, whereas you're mounting your NAS. Check if your NAS can be accessed by SSH, much more secure, no need password.

I sync directly to a snapshots directory which both routers will then run rsnapshot on.
*
Thanks for the advise, i see it later if it is more stable that way.

Did notice i also paste the nas password here. Thx, i have removed it and changed password.

Hi, I think my unit is softbrick, while uploading VPN settings. The router light is on, but no indication and no wifi. Any advice? Can do hard reset? My is with custom firmware
*
My suggestion is try to boot into CFE emergency mode.
From there you could clear NVRM and reflash the Xwrt firmware.

Just my 2-cents.

XWRT-VORTEX has just released firmware version 380.69 Stable for WS880

Download: http://xvtx.ru/xwrt/download.htm

Changelog: [Mark changes from 380.68_4]
CODE
380.69 (11-Dec-2017)
 - NEW: Added option to disable the Asus NAT tunnel service under
Other Settings -> Tweak.  Not quite sure what this
partly closed source service is for, but it eats a
fair amount of CPU and RAM (backport from 382)

 - CHANGED: Updated odhcp6c to be in sync with upstream
            (patch by theMIRon)
 - CHANGED: Updated libogg to 1.3.3 and libvorbis to 1.3.5.
 - CHANGED: Updated wget to 1.19.2 (fixing connectivity to some
            TLS 1.2 servers)
 - CHANGED: Updated RT-N66U and RT-AC66U SDK to GPL 380_8120's
            (fixing KRACK in repeater/bridge mode)
 - CHANGED: Updated openssl to 1.0.2n.
 - CHANGED: Updated tor to 0.2.9.14.
 - FIXED: allow IA_NA mode downgrade with forced IA_PD
(for ISPs with broken IPv6 support)
          (patch by theMIRon)
 - FIXED: Trend Micro signature check might randomly fail the
          RSA validation.
 - FIXED: Security issues CVE-2017-15275, CVE-2017-12163
and CVE-2017-12150 (backported to Samba 3.6 and 3.5)
 - FIXED: Httpd crash when accessing certain webui pages with
          no connected Ethernet clients
 - FIXED: DNSFILTER rules would have priority over OPENVPN Client
rules (when client has DNS set to Exclusive mode).
 - FIXED: traffic routing from the router itself would fail when
restarting the firewall while using an ovpn client with
          policy rules in effect.
