Mine is 38k (demo car so its pre-reg right) half than the price for a new car, worth it?

This car will not be for me, but for my girlfriend.  She is a typical lady with 0 knowledge on cars, so am now looking for a reliable and safe car for her.  I initially wanted to get her a BMW E36 or E46, but decided against it as she will likely want a car just to get from point A to point B, and not care about the ride comfort or handling.  For me, age of the car does not really matter, and more importantly is the reliability.  Like most women drivers, she will likely not care about temperature and will not be sensitive to any anomalies in the cars in everyday usage, which is why I need to get her a reliable car. 

I am fairly well acquainted with maintaining an old car, so no problem in getting a 10 year old car as well.  I still have about a year to hunt for the car, so have time to search for a well maintained unit (as long as it is not too rare).

What I have in mind now are the following:

1.  Toyota Altis (Corolla) 2003 to 2007 - around 30K

Read about this car, which is mostly bullet proof and a step above Vios in terms of comfort. Has 4-Star EU NCAP rating.
bulletproof? yes. nicer than vios? yes. parts also more expensive than a vios. nothing much to add here..

2.  Nissan X-Trail 2000 to 2005 - around 35K

Won many awards when it was launched, but was told that maintenance will be higher than Toyota Altis due to it being 4WD.  Also seems to have rust issues around the door (based on a Nissan engineer).
frankly, this car is more expensive than the altis one cause it has 4wd... and two (if you are considering the turbo) its got a turbo..... both also point to a higher fc.
These cars are  for people who want a powerful 4 wheel drive automatic machine.
**if you are looking at the na variant, might i suggest the x-trail or its cousin, the dualist~


3.  Proton Inspira (actually is a Lancer) 2011 to 2012 - slightly above 40K

Seems like a good option to buy a rebadged car since was told first generation is 90% the same as Lancer.
i do like this car but its lacking in some safety features.

Preferably not Proton.  Did consider Myvi but other older options like the ones above seems better as am getting better comfort and safety for a nominally higher maintenance.

8. Remarks - Priority in terms of reliability and safety and secondly would be maintenance cost.  I can tolerate higher FC.

Dear all, currently in dilemma choosing between a new Axia Standard G Auto or used Nissan Latio / Sentra for everyday drive to work.
Budget is 35K max.
The axia is straight to the point coz its fuel saving and gets the job done, nothing more.
In the other hand, used to own a Nissan Sentra super saloon and had first hand experience of how reliable a Nissan can be (despite minor issues here and there due to its age).
Currently more towards a 2010 Latio 1.6 because Axia is abit small in my opinion but its new so I dont have to worry about its maintenance for the next 5 years?
Haven't purchased an used car before so abit scared of being scammed >.<

Yeah Vento is a new one i guess. Actually more keen to this due to its size compare to polo hatchback.

My option would be almera, will be using the car daily for more than 100km per day at least in Klang Valley. So pug is out of the picture.

This v6 engine is powerfull and smooth but fuel comsumption high and maintenance not cheap. Suitable for long distance highway drive . My uncle has one and he plans  to trade-in for new camry 2.0. Also spareparts may be issue in future as this V6 engine no longer in production

ChiaW3n been asking me about mini's so here is the less TLDR version

Mark1 (R50/53) from 2000 to 2006 uses the Tritec engine. Relatively bullet proof engine however the gearbox and clutch do let it down but generally cheaper way to keep it going is to just keep changing clutch plates when it wears off to save from repairing the gearbox, and of course keeping the gearbox fluids as fresh as possible. The Tritec engine isn't very refined so don't mistaken it's coarseness as a sign of trouble, maintaining here in Malaysia might be a challenge as this isn't a common engine plus it is pretty much beyond 10 years old so even if you don't get a lemon realistically anyone buying one of these now would be looking at, at least RM5000 for touch up here and there especially things like mountings and absorbers which are pass it's sell by date by now. Unless you've got a trusty mechanic that don't charge you an arm and a leg to maintain better keep away. So what's he price like? Well, the youngest R53 would be sub RM60k year 2006 car so loaning one would be an issue either loan reject or limited 3-4 years loan. Not ideal.

Mark2 (R56) from 2006 to 2014 uses the Prince engine. Prince engine is a joint venture of PSA group with BMW. PSA is Peugeot and Citroen at the moment with a few other marques joining soon. Anyway the prince engine is the basis for BMW's twin power turbo engines such as the N-series but have been improved on alot by BMW. Both the turbo and non-turbo had issues, e.g. timing chain issues, power loss, death rattle, etc. were all problems facing Prince and BMW N-series owners. Prince engine has it's issues but it is a very common engine in Malaysia as Peugeot 308, 408, 508 and RCZ along with Citroen DS5 all uses this engine or a variation of it so parts wouldn't be an issue but to get it to be as reliable as you possibly can you need someone whom really knows how to handle this engine which not many workshops/mechanics can. The R56's would be starting from RM60k onwards, some 2008 models can be had for about RM68k not really a problem to loan and even bargain for cheaper as he prince engine gives it a bad reputation but you have to be seriously aware of it's flaws.

Mark3 F55/56) from 2014 onwards uses the BMW B38 engine. Things got so bad from the previous engine BMW made sure their new engines were exceptionally good and also marketing wise made sure their dealers let customers know the new engine is a much improved 1500cc turbo by BMW not a 1600cc turbo from the previous JV. So far from 2014 until now the B38's have been quite reliable. However, the prices for this model starts at over RM100k even for a used one made in 2014 so not much of a value buy 

so for anyone thinking of getting one under RM80k it is either the R53 or R56, basically both have issues it depends on which issues you rather deal with and able to handle.

as a high mileage daily drive, it maybe still possible but of course you can't be stingy on maintenance after buying and doing some betterment for it.

I need some advices regarding used car.
Recently I purchase an used car however i found out there was some major problem on the car after i collected it. I found out the problem at the same day and then i returned it to the car dealer who in turn saying that will fix it.

Few days later I received a call from the dealer who claimed that no problem was found on the car, which is impossible due to it is a serious problem occurred.

May I know if i found out the problem still exist, can I refinance my loan to another car? Any police report should i filed beforehand?

1) not big issue just some elbow grease and (forgot what's the product name jor) and surface rust all gone

2) bring it to radiator specialist, most likely plastic top cover leaking.

3) gaskets cheap but labor to replace them aren't.

All in all under 1000 to fix or 500 if you got hole

hi guys! im planning to buy Used Mercedes-Benz C200k W204 Avantgarde year 2009, at my local shop have 1 with 108k milleage priced at RM88k local car, i have test drive the car, all electronics working fine and this will be my 1st exp dream car i want to own..White colour, with all black interior and chrome lining.

But i dont know how to check the condition of the engine, and what price i need to spend when i bought the car later. As for spare part, is it way cheaper than owning a BMW 320i? Can give example of any spare part for comparison? for maintenance, around RM800 for every 10k right? thanks

Looking for used car around RM40k-RM50k price range. Not more than 4 years old. Currently i'm looking at Fiesta, 208, Swift, Almera, Jazz Hybrid, Polo.

Any of these cars worth considering? Or not worth looking at all? This will be my 2nd car, and main usage will be for city driving / short distance driving only, and most importantly, have best fc.
