you are absolutely right on the mvyi. Even tho aged>15 years already, it still serves me really well. I dont drive outstation, its only city drive to work, just regular service only LOL
i also got think bout proton x50. But having drive myvi all these years, i actually worried i cant handle suv

the hype on s70 on social media did influenced me a little also
*
just my two cents here.

i used to drive first gen myvi then i got into ativa. drove around half year then realize the suv isn't really my style, prefer normal hb and sedans.

so i recommend you to test drive the x50 more before you jump the gun biggrin.gif

i think the city is a good option as well. spacious for its size but still not too large. pretty good sound system if you're into that. (not to mention aa/cp) also pretty good fuel mileage. i only hear praises for this car going from friend to friend.

Hey man, here's an issue/update on my purchase of the used RM15k VW Polo (RM18k after the insurance, road tax and "fees" collected by dealer).  The good news is that there's no major issue driving with 2014 VW Polo Sedan the past year, even managed to sent to scheduled mileage servicing at VAGTechnik Bangi and Cheras (the closest locations to me)

But I'm recently informed that the vehicle's mileage has been tampered, whereby I was informed by VW Glenmarie service centre that the car was last serviced in 14 Oct 2019 with the mileage during service showing 177,283km. Meanwhile, when I bought the car from the used car dealer in Oct 2023, the mileage at the time was shown as around 99,000km, which clearly means the mileage has been tampered.

If that's the case, should I make a police report that the mileage has been tampered with? and is this considered as consumer fraud? Should I also tell VAGTechnik about the situation? It's my first time buying and owning a second hand vehicle, would appreciate for the feedback 🙏
*
would like to know more on this. i bought a used car which also had its meter tampered with. ~400k km to 140k km.

but tbh in this case, i think even if you confront the dealers, they would just feign ignorance.

i know some dealer friends, they all think it is just par for the course, and nothing wrong with that. no choice, they said yawn.gif

majority of dealers i see tamper with their meters, i've seen bills they pay to ask mechanics/technicians to adjust meters.

these shady dealers can eat my soiled undies ranting.gif

QUOTE(Snoopycute98 @ Jun 5 2024, 11:16 PM)
Same boat here.. but I am just starting out to work, my myvi gen 1 already 17 years old today. Been having issues like OEM driveshaft vibration at high speed but will change it soon.
edit: quite a lot of issue actually due to its age... but mostly already sorted out by me.. let p2 SC fix.. pomen fix, etc
I am actually quite tired of this car.. seems using a lot of money to fix
In these 2 years time i think i spent 5k++ to fix the car.. including aircond

Question, is City or City HB a better choice? For someone moving on from Myvi?

1 minor turn off for me in City HB is the rear seat headroom is so short as compared to City sedan
*
i like HBs, but kinda depends on what you need in a car i guess. the HB is also 1k more expensive than the sedan tongue.gif

if you haul large items like long items from IKEA often, maybe you need the sedan. all specs of city has 60:40 split fold iinm. and sedan is 200mm longer than the hb if you're counting.

do you ferry people in the back seat often? city and city hb are so similar on paper that its best to see what you need lol.

hate to sound like a broken record but the best thing to do is test drive, consult owner's group.

oot, i wish they still sold the base city without the level 2 assistances at ~70k. the 85k starting point really make me pengsan.

gather your evidence, make a police report, make a case to small claims tribunal.

there is a market collusion somewhere because you don't see market disruptive pricing for cars unlike any other industry.
then there is also protection, Toyota and Honda do have nice a-segment cars and i don't believe they don't have the economics of scale to price is low.
just check out the price of Honda Brio and Amaze in Thailand, it is cheaper and spec better than a Bezza/Axia.
*
didn't know can make case to tribunal dang.

ikr regarding our local carmakers protection. i unironically like our local entry level cars, but enough is enough. can see that they are getting complacent with their quality, we need more competition in the entry level market.

lmaooo laugh.gif

true tho this really a good people and item ferry. but for me if already dislike suv, this mpv is a bad match (for me la).
so a sedan with a deep boot, 60:40 folding may get the occasional furniture moving session done.

true wagon which is a sedan car with long body enough to carry a coffin
not those mpv/crossover shite

personally i like wagons, but they carry a lot of stigma as a hearse/coffin car in our culture. i think that kinda affects my choices abit as well.

plus not many choices here aside from the original alza. toyota caldinas are getting a bit old too.

oh well, maybe porsches in the far future tongue.gif

To request recommendation, this is what u need to post:
1. Brand. : Sushi or Kimchi brand, as long as model are reliable (not considering nasi lemak brand)
2. Budget. : RM20K, plan to buy two cars with this budget, if possible
3. New/Used/Unreg. (New = New Unit, Used = Used unit, Unreg = Unregistered @ Malaysia JPJ yet. : Used, must reg in Malaysia
4. Specs. : prefer engine power anything below 2.0 liters as dun wan pay high road tax, but not too underpower like 1.3 liters... just about right
5. Transmission. (Automatic, Manual, Sequential Manual Transmission, Tiptronic, AMT, DSG, etc) : any type as long as 5 speed and above (anything 4 or less not consider)
6. NA or FI ? (NA = Natural Aspirated, FI = Forced-induction aka Turbocharged/Supercharged) : Any, just don't fail me like lemon
7. Type. (Sedan, 2 Seater, Convertible, and etc) : MPV (7 seater) and/or Sedan
8. Remarks. (add anything u like) : Anything like Android player, soundproof, better speaker system is a plus and bonus for me, as i'm a audio guy (not pro or expert, just enough clear and bassy will do)
*
20k for 2 cars so 10k each?

under 10k, 5sp, under 2.0L, either jap or korean, i can only think of manual sentras, corollas, and civics maybe but a bit difficult to find manual + under 10k for these.

or maybe 7th gen accords 2.0L, they have 5sp autos. but not sure if can find under 10k each.

i think audio equipment you can add on yourself lol.

Most of them sold it off.

Also, a colleague bought Sonata (hyundai) 2.4l only 100K on promotion. After 1 year issues keep popping up I had to listen to him for another year complaining, lastly drag him to UMW convince him trade in for Camry then peace & quiet next 10 years.
*
lmao dare i ask which year sonata it was?

what about actual selling price to dealer and resale value?

eg: used car dealer offer RM50k but on their website resale value ~RM60k, loan settlement is 55k.
technically i will be at loss right.
*
yes in this case if you sell to the dealer will have to top up 5k out of pocket to settle the loan.

can try elsewhere for a quote.

selling the car yourself is also an option but a hassle, altho will be higher than what dealers offer, confirm.

other sifus pls let me know if im wrong, sometime ago banker friend told me banks no longer entertain walk-in ie individual car loan, they deal with dealers only. pls let me know if i was fed wrong info, or this is no longer the case notworthy.gif

used car dealer is still a business so whatever he buy from you he has to make sure it is sellable.
so they normally offer you 10k less than the selling price.
this is because they need to do some touch up of the car if it has issues, pay staff salary, then hassle money to get paperworks done on jpj/insurance/bank side.

you can sell the car yourself to try and get that 60k
but you will need to do the legwork to settle things for your customer.
also depending on your customer they might call you for every minor issue they have with the car until forever

[/spoiler]

bankers of course layan walk in they dun need to pay hassle money to 3rd party.
they will guide u and u just need to submit all the documents they need.
*
good to know, thanks!

Guys would like to ask honda eg 1999 with d15 stock engine is it okay as backup car? i already have axia as main daily drive car.
*
1999 should be ek no? and did the ek come with d15? i digress.

i mean sure, still see quite a few of these eg & eks on the road.

imo still a good car but mechanics will tell you its getting on in years, may need some tlc and cash to fix here and there. unless you know its been cared for.

using purely as backup car or planning to have some fun with it? just be careful where you park bc this is kind of a thief magnet as well, no immobiliser, the locks are probably getting worn, easy to open.

Yo, looking for used car with budget of 30k, i dont demand much but just reliability, so im more inclined towards Toyota or Honda
*
2012 dugong vios ~25-30k in carsome. same year honda city around same price.

any young children? if need seats with isofix go for the city, the facelifted city (chrome grill) has isofix whereas the vios does not.

do you drive long distance often? everyday driving distance? these info may help others give you better advice as well

Thanks for the recommendation.

If i can bump this budget up to 40-50k what would you recommend? I think Perodua is fine for me as well.

Consideration is still reliability, it is my first car after moving to KL, I'm still on the fence if this is for trasitionary or I will still with it for like 10 years.

At the current moment I work from home and don't travel around frequently since I have a desk job.

But I would like to explore the better part of Peninsula hopefully when I have the car. So long distance driving possibly once in a while.

About to start a family but not sure children when, so I'm not sure about the baby seating situation.
*
at this price point can actually go for a decent new car. either myvi or persona would be great.

if dont mind used i'd get the newest city you can get. at around 50k which is 2016-2017 city, depending on spec and condition.

if want no frills and peace of mind, go for new, year end should have discounts if dont mind year end model.

for baby in future, any car from 2013 should be ok since they come with isofix mounts, so you can choose between isofix baby seats or normal seatbelt baby seats. just have to know that baby seats are actually quite large, most times they eat a bit more than 1 person worth of seating space, so a smaller car like a bezza (or any a-segment cars like axia) might be a bit tight if you're carrying more people sometimes. but this is a problem for the future lah.

most important go test drive and see in person biggrin.gif dont trust on-paper specs

Agree that the MPV Alza would be helpful for travel IF this car is for longer term usage. 2nd hand Alza (pre 2022 variant) is pretty good, not expensive to maintain (but no ISOFIX).
*
i think since the 2014 facelift the alza has isofix for middle seats, same with the myvis that gen.

i like the pre-2022 alzas as well, very utilitarian.

Can consider used Persona eg 2022 RM26K
https://www.mudah.my/2022-proton-persona-pr...a-110219987.htm
But be very careful check condition (flood, accident etc) even if still under warranty

If you can drive manual, a brand new Saga RM35K safer better handling slightly longer than Myvi is good choice with minimal city driving mostly highway.
*
this unit way below market price, i'd bring mechanics to check if keen on this unit.

i just got a used 2019 persona 25k.

fuel consumption is one of the thing you have to put up with this car (also proton qc lol). other than that, very large boot space, isofix mounts, can fold down rear seats, very practical car.

Hi thanks for the feedback,
Single driver, mainly for city driving, sedate, currently renting alone and single, RM3.6k after deductions epf and rent. Planning to buy a car for more flexibility.

No experience in maintaining car before, my only guidance now is my dad who is a foreman of a car workshop but wont be able to help physically due to distance. The bezza is actually being offered by my uncle that was used by his son during study, now selling cause got a new car. Can vouch the mileage is not tempered, unsure how he drove it though. No modifications on the engine bay itself. Serviced outside after warranty. Initially planning to buy a new car around early next year. Now just wondering if the used bezza deal is worth enough to justify dealing and learning maintaining 7-year-old car likely for the next 5 year. Or as mentioned, best just to get a new car later and learn through that.
*
if it's relative's car then should be ok. they're selling for quite a bit under market value. (2017 bezza 1.3 is selling for 30k on carsome now)
most important thing with bezzas (or peroduas in general) is have to make sure if they were heavily used grab units.

i think bezzas are great for city driving, huge boot, small, parts are cheap.
but if can, get mechanic to take a look first lah, since the previous driver was a student, and lowered the car, better to be safe than sorry.

have not much experience in 7 seaters but i can say from experience alphard/vellfire option have to take into account 3.5L road tax and fuel consumption. it sucks.

Should I get the deal? anything should I worry on?

5km? 5k km?

better to state which model and engine cc

but generally if mazda should be ok bc maintenance is free, no reason to not go for service

sorry 5k km, mazda3 with boot.

As per checking, the owner did go for SC for the 3 years follow schedule, then sold to the dealer. So, the car might be at dealer for 1 year without servicing.

Any recommended for pre purchase inspection in KL?

1 year without buyers hmm.gif better beware if this is a red flag or not

as for pre purchase services i'll leave the recommendations to the sifus in f&f icon_question.gif

Hi sifus, am totally not a car guy so am considering these two models basically because I like the design. Looking at budget range of 20-50k. Also old skool so prefer non keyless. Also prefer a hatchback because of the smaller size. Just a single driver, usually daily drive and the occasional outstation. What's important to me is just got AC, got music (lol these 2 should be basic right?) and decent mileage. Oh, and not too crazy maintanence/service costs.

What common problems should I look out for in these 2 models? Also open to other models (but not local brands) within these criteria if you guys can recommend. Thanks in advance!
*
used Iriz. unless if really really dont want national brand: -

vw polo 1.6. still uses key. but its still vw, heard a few abs sensor issues, gear selector bush, etc.
honda jazz. this one abit more expensive sebab honda. +50% awek points.
kia picanto. heard a lot good things but no personal experience with this aside from grab.

personally i think 2010 mazda3 abit too old. can try see 2015 mazda2. but i think this one is push start la.

QUOTE(dogbert_chew @ Jun 9 2025, 02:00 PM)
Understood. If you can put aside your preference for A200, Mazda3 and non keyless, do go test drive new hatchbacks <50K eg Axia, Iriz, Myvi.

As a totally non-car guy, buying a new car will 90% save you a ton of headaches trying to repair a used > 10year continental. Unless you're up to it financially and wish to experience it.

Also 2026, new Myvi D01D and possibly new 1.5NA Saga Hatchback (after new sedan) might be in the picture for your consideration.
*
yeah if not a car guy, used car can give you many headaches if unlucky. many small issues will give you aneurysm especially the conti.

so many new launches coming i ingat economy not good maybe only i economy not good sad.gif

Yeah, saw the listing for those cars.
How about Axia? And in terms of reliablity & cost of ownership vs the Protons?
*
its cheaper to own and maintain axia
provided didnt get grab unit or heavily used workhorse which alot of people use them for

but you also get less power and comfort if your friend drives long distance often
if city drive only, and found good unit prefeably from friends or relatives, then yes i think good.

if can spring for a bigger budget, can try looking at alza. but same issue above applies; check for ehailing and workhorse units alot of perodua cars are handled rough while still maintain sky high prices.
