hi,i want to buy a used car for travel.
i need space for my kids stroller n ect.
i have see a post on mudah that fit my buget.
but it have paddle shift features.
is paddle shift ok to have?

or i have to rip it open like a cake?
*
not sure what kind of question this is... doesn't sound like a question asking for a recommendation....
is paddle shifters ok to have?
- why are they 'not ok' to have? hmm.gif its just buttons...
or i have to rip it open like a cake?
-cannot brain what this means.... i have never ripped a cake open before. If you mean rip it open as in take the paddle shifters out, just dont touch them if you dont want to..... or disconnect them. Its a simpleish car, disconnecting is no diferent from pulling off one plug sweat.gif

1. Brand : Any, prefer conti cars but shoot me with your suggestions.
2. Budget : from 60k to 90k
3. New/Used/Unreg = Used, 2012 onwards
4. Specs : any
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI : both will do
7. Type : either a sedan or hatch, most importantly 4 doors
8. Remarks : i'm a young guy recently married. currently owning a myvi and planning to get something with a lil bit of power and comfort. looking for something that is at least reliable.
*
i found 2 somewhat contradictory statements.... conti, reliable..... hmmm.....

there are a few 'safe' choices....

polo sedan.... worth nothing 1-2 years old, well within budget. the maintanance of the 1.6 is somewhat decent (compared to the other vw's) but its also abit less..... special. all in all, its pretty much a normal sedan. I do like the golf gti but if it kaput, wallet also die together.

c200 is also within your budget but being a merc, its obviously going to cost you multiple times more in running costs compared to your myvi.

2. Budget : 20-50k
3. New/Used/Unreg = Used
4. Specs : 4 door or 2 door sedan.
5. Transmission : auto/manual
6. NA or FI : both will do
7. Type : my clean salary minus all commitments(house/bills/makan) will be around 2k.  just a car that I will drive to meet w client or suppliers/contractor. I work in construction field. But I won't use this car to go to site. And most of the car maintenence will be bear by my company. Should I save up to but cash/buy 2nd hand. But I prefer 5years loan onli.. 9 is too much. Tqvm.
*
2 door sedan?? thats a coupe!!
germans + loan lagi..... so i guess this is already whittled down... polo sedan 1.6 (if u get the tsi.... make sure company fully covers it....)
wait.... before i resume, you want a big kar... or small car? reliability not an issue? do you mind if its a old junk hehe (reliable one ofc but cash only)

QUOTE(SupremeLahh7 @ Jan 18 2017, 02:36 PM)
C200 is an awesome car. Drove one, (w203)  but company punya. Mileage reached 500k edi. But u can guess how the condition, a workshop quoted 10k for overhaul. If he can find one with low mileage, good condition, go for it!
*
haha have to be willing to look and pay for the billslah.... but usually its not 'horribad' unless its a major service..... you are paying for prestage after all....

Ah yes, a coupe. I've been eyeing on polo. Already test drive one. It's ok la. Not great. But ok. But, will the gearbox last?
*
which model did you try out?
i guess the 1.6 na? if so, yeah in terms of performance, nothing special here.
-Good thing about the 'nothing special' model is that its actually rather decent, maintenance isn't bad for a conti has the more reliable old school relatively simple torque gearbox.
-The bad however is that other than its continess, its a basic simple car which excels in nothing in particular
-its just a fairly decent allrounder AND if you buy it used, 1-2 years old, the 1st owner would have cushioned the brunt of the depreciation for you while you get a fairly new car which is still covered under warranty (pls check with sc if sc is still valid)

oh just re-read your requirements... i just saw the 'and japs'....

lancer/inspirak
+fairly decent car
+so many aftermarket bits.... (if thats what you are into)
+spare parts easy, maintanance is reasonable, alright car al in all.
-missing vsc

sylphy/aka syphilis
+comfortable.... very much so.....
-ugly
-early batches had some cvt issues
-ugly
-oh so ugly

and lastly you have your bunch of ragtag everybody's favorite choice vios-es, city(s),forte(s).... aint going to talk about those

2. Budget : Under RM70k - RM90k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Doesn't matter
4. Specs : Full Spec
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :  NA
7. Type : SUV
8. Remarks : Safety features, keyless, big cargo space

Hi guys, I'm currently driving a 2011 Vios and looking to trade in for a bigger car for mainly 2 reasons:
1. My son was just given birth and I need bigger space to allocate the baby seat, his nanny, my wife, and occasionally my parents
2. A better and more solid impression when I'm out for business meeting

Thanks
*
brz
+new fancy model!
+a huge car for the money you pay
+its pretty much all you want
-safety features are there but not everyone gets airbags.
-1.5l engine might be alittle anemic (u should try it out)

serena hybrid (used)
+fancy, elektrik power
+interior is pretty nice and its really big
-long term maintanance might be a small questionmark

3. New/Used/Unreg : New
4. Specs : Full Specs
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI : Either (not that I have a choice in this price range)
7. Type : Sedan or hatchback
8. Remarks :
My main pick for this is the Perodua Bezza 1.3 Advance - would be good to have some feedback on this. I'm not fond of the Proton Saga's interior or the Persona's looks, and the clutch-based CVTs in current Protons in general are a major turn-off. An unusual option is also the Kia Rio Sedan - there are some pretty good rebates right now on 2016 models, but choices are very limited. I spend a lot of time in urban traffic with few opportunities to really stretch my legs but in the event that I do need to travel long-distance on highways, I'm not sure if it's worth getting something that can hold its own on highways better than a Bezza.
*
you have your bases covered... best you go and test drive both the bezza and persona... (maybe even saga if you want)
The beza is alright other than its cramp, tiny body

Guys, Ford focus 2014 or Toyota vios ?

I kinda like focus more but get family pressured into vios
*
one is a nicer car to drive while the other is a boring as heck practical car which is pretty hardy.

have a few (quite a few) interesting stories about the focus. maybe others have better luck with the car but my friend had a horrible time with it. lets just say it spent a significant part of its life stuck in the sc, being towed around or just unable to move.... pretty sure that it might have been a lemon unit tho...
basing off the one (and only one) person's experience, you should get the fiesta if
i)you have alot of free time
ii)enjoy tow truck rides (on average, it was one every 2-3 months excluding the shifts to other sc's when one cannot solve it)
iii)phone calls speaking to seemingly incompetent people~

vios stories are a little less exciting.... abit boring even.
i)get car
ii)drive
iii)drive
iv)drive
v)service according to schedule
vi)drive
vii)repeat 2 and onwards (with maybe some fixes here and there)

1. Brand : Honda
2. Budget : 20k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : 1.5 Vtec
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :  NA for sure
7. Type : Sedan
8. Remarks : Hi folks, I'm looking for used car recently. Budget is ~RM20k and model pinned to 2007-2009 Honda City. So far of my research, there is 2 types which is IDSI and VTEC version and both are using 7 speed CVT dry clutch gearbox.  smile.gif

To summarize IDSI is more fuel saving and VTEC is more power. But the IDSI tend to have gearbox failure, is it same to VTEC? And is there certain batch of City have this issue only or all of them regardless which year? Correct me if I'm wrong.  nod.gif

Base on your experience or user around you, do you have or heard any major problem and preventive suggestion?

I'm open for any related discussion and your input is appreciated !  notworthy.gif
*
few points,
-if 20k is all you have for it + maintanance, may or may not go your way. This particular model has a few known issues.... transmissions have been known to fail and they cost a bomb to fix. (rclxms.gif also.... exploding airbags)
-gearboxes used in both models are the same so yeah good luck there, I know of one person using this cars all these years with no issues, and another who has changed the gb twice (1st time being a complete rebuild costing half the car's value according to him)
-07 is the year it was facelifted so yeah.. keep that in mind
-vtek is the more powerful unit, would pick that
(mad.gif calling it a vtec leaves a sour taste in my mouth.... what kind of vtec doesnt have LIFT!!!!!!! #rant)
-its very frugal (for a car back then, nothing impressive compared to today's cars)

might be a good idea to look for a local car.....
You can easily afford a newer persona or myvi for that money... maybe even consider the viva elite?

hmmm..... a car with more toys does come with a higher chance of item failing (its logical). Prius-es has been fairly reliable so far (at least i dont hear of recurring issues with them), but if things do go wrong, the sc might have to play pin the tail to troubleshoot and solve issues should they arise. any reason you selected a hybrid in the 1st place? Its alright to buy long as you understand there are more parts to replace in the long run.

sylphy
-very comfortable car
-early models had cvt related issues (oil cooler helps)
-ugly.... very ugly

altis
-everything decent

Is it worth for me to buy 2013 kia sportage for rm55 900.
Im planning tu buy a sedan or suv car with monthly installment around 600-700.

What are other cars that suit my budget?it can be new or used car. Thanks!

too many cars fit into this search...... anything from 90's cars, pickup trucks, tiny kancils, all the way to sports cars that will burn a hole in your wallet.... why did you like the sportage in the 1st place?

Thanks, I have removed Prius from consideration because lack of outside mechanic to repair, if service in SC might cost a bomb. Main reason I selected the prius is because of Toyota's hybrid technology have matured a lot but here in Malaysia hybrid is still new.

So now within the 45k budget and used car made in 2011 and later, I got several models but I don't know how to narrow down

Toyota: Vios, Altis, Camry can a?
Honda: City, Accord
Kia: Forte
Mazda: Mazda3 but I heard maintenance is expensive
Nissan: Sylphy, Almera, Latio - Indeed Sylphy is ugly looks like frog
Peugeot: 308, 408
VW: Jetta, Polo Sedan
Ford: Fiesta
Mitsubishi: Lancer
Proton: Inspira (seems high fc)

Can you comment on these cars?

My priorities are:
- Comfort
- Reliability
- Boot space
- Fuel consumption
- Handling around corners
(yeah..... you aren't gona get all of them)
*
the only thing i notice is you dont really wana spend much on maintanance (or sending to the official sc for some reason)...
mygod... what are d segments doing with the rest... you are looking at everything.... only gona comment in general... you need to figure out what you need 1st

B
vios/city
-both reliable tanks
-nothing much to say, they are what they are
-resale values for these cars are on the high side so draw ur own conclusions from that
-the vios you are looking at is a tin kosong (current gen ones are actually decently loaded)
-the city you can afford would be the model with the normal torque converter based gearbox, its very reliable but fc is just soso, not good, not bad

C
altis/Forte/mazda 3/Sylphy/Lancer(Inspira)
-larger than the above bunch
-altis, decent allrounder slightly boat-ish car, but comfortable (far as comfort and reliability goes, this is probably one of the more all rounded choices)
-m3 is a car with a sporty vibe going for it. Not very big tho and generally, yes mazda parts are that bit more exp (not killing tho)
-lancer/inspira -99% the same, slight beza je, built quality also basically the same just the trim and setup. fc is higher since its a (slightly) performance oriented sedan.. handling is also on the firmer side

D
Camry/Accord
-largest of the bunch, most comfortable as well
-you will only be able to afford an older unit
-comfortable and spacious they are
-fc is alright for such large cars
-both are also very reliable cars.

From your responses, not for you
308, 408, Jetta, Polo Sedan, Fiesta
-parts are not cheap.
-sc is kinda crappy and going outside, well there are some guys that will be able to deal with them but dont expect it to be very cheap.
-are generally less reliable than the sushi counterparts.

**dont know what car you drive atm, but dont expect any of them to be as cheap as a wira to maintain, more features/gizmos = more things can go wrong/break. Every time you go up a segment, the maintanance/running costs also go a step higher.

well technically for 55+k.... yeah worth it if its a clean car. u should contact the seller to determine if it really is selling for that price and if everything is in order..... i asy this cause for* a 13 sportage is on the cheap side....

why do you 'dare not call'... just call, if its out of your price range ont need to wast time going to view it, if they laugh, let em, end of the day you need a car for the budget you have.

cant recomend any dealers, but yes its possible to get one for 15k. maybe you should look for a car being sod by the owner or an older car.

it got registered June 2016 by previous owner, assembled in 2016.
mileage very very low and non Malaysian user

really depends on you man....
if money savings and reliability are your no1 requirements, then yes this is a good car...

I asked a friend, she's owned one polo 1.2 tsi since 2010. She said that VW changed her gbox, FOC. But she said the newer models stating 2012 has lesser problem than the earlier one. Idk.. I really2 attracted to it, especially the polo sport model. 2012-2013 one. Plus, it's very cheap to own one. Around 40k+ for a low mileage with full service record.

But.. If it's really a lemon.. Can u pls recommend another good car around this price range. I'm looking for a car that's fun to drive, without having to sacrifice comfort. I won't do any heavy mods. Just relax2 spirited drive 😄. I already have a project car so I won't use this car to Hentam touge or kanjo lol.
*
its really your call... but there's a reason why these cars in particular loose so much in resale.

since you already have another project car, why not just get a simple safe fuel efficient daily driver.

cars under 10k are those that are only good for moving from a-b and nothing else... maintanance can be dirt cheap but fc might not be the best.

saga lmst (well within 10k)
-easy to jaga
-simple as heck, maintenance is dirt cheap
-quite old, safety is utter crap, same goes with fc, only available in manual form.

wira
-same like the above other than its larger, drinks more fuel and is available with an auto tranny.

saga blm or a persona (need to topup)
-newer
-slightly safer
-available in auto formats

4. Specs = Any
5. Transmission = Automatic
6. NA or FI  = Any
7. Type = Sedan
8. Remarks : Buying as family car with 2 teenage kids. Most importantly cheap to own and maintain with good fuel consumption. Used to fetch my family of 4

hmmm vios/city being the common non-brainer choices.... any other criterias? space, safety?

other notable cars include

kia forte

+maintanance is alright
+fairly reliable car
+resale isnt as good as the 'T' brand (this is good for you since you are purchasing used)
-certain bits will cost more, but those bits are not really bits that go wrong often

inspira/lancer
-does cost more than a vios to maintain and run, bigger engine, cvt, more expensive wear and tear bits, etc
+all in all a better car (on the sportier side, might not be your cup of tea)
-fc is higher but again, more sporty car, much more powerful and nicer to drive
+parts not gona be an issue for a long time
+actually a good car all in all

civic
- in many ways, similar to the inspira, just by honda, also a good car

sylphy (facelift)
-this thing is ugly... i really mean ugly, cannot emphasize enough how ugly it is (at least to me it's butt ugly)
-make sure its one of the later batches, earlier batches had some cvt related issues
-maintanance might not be the cheapest
+this thing is spacious and heck the ride is lovely.... its really comfortable, probably the most comfortable car in the class
+fc is also alright long as you have a light foot

persona
+new + warranty
+ newest tech
+ safety is where proton excels
+ fc is actually good, very good
- technically smallest car
- crappy 'P'/thundercats badge
- local car
- god its slow (but this means fuel savings!!)
-base spec 50k (con since slightly outside budget)
*if you want to use for long term, can deal with the lack of space, 50k price AND 'P' badge
**since car is new, interest should be lower, calculate it properly and it might be viable

Thanks! I have been looking around for 2012 vios or 2008 altis for 45000. I actually prefer altis but it is from 2008, hence I'm more hesitant about the maintenance.
Any advise? smile.gif
*
2012 vios
will be a very bare car.... vioses are very reliable cars but up till the recently released model, they were technically never very good value for money, specsheet vs dollar wise. Considering its silly resale value, personally would only recommend the car if its new and you didnt really want to keep it for long, or really really really dislike risks no matter how negligible ('T' guys do have a very good track record when it comes to reliability).

altis
now this is actually a rather decent car, its got a fair amount of safety related toys such as abs,vsc and tcs onboard the top range models (frankly go for the top spec units). just keep in mind that, when you go for a larger (diferent segment) car, maintanance costs do go up, this is something you will just have to accept, and since the car is older (almost 10) more bits will have to be replaced, that said its a very reliable car as well.
(2010 models with the updated grill/foggies have a cvt tranny, that means more fuel savings but cost abit more for fluids and its sort of out of your budget)

hmm.gif this confuses me... i mean it really confuses me...
wants: "reliable car and decent maintenance cost." BUT looks for a Ford Kuga
not sure how your search has led you to that car.

first figure out if you want a high riding car, or a low riding car (sedan or suv right there) maybe test drive both but if you still want to keep your options open, sure....

next, figure out how large a car you want....

far as the e36 goes...
-check the cooling system (leaks, color of coolant, blabla)
-headgasket.... oil condition and all that.
-leaks... beemers love this
-not much electronics in the 36, basic check will do
-check the body and suspebsion... those bits can cost alot....
-interior plastics probably abit worn and aged... normalish
-autos, make sure smooth, manuals make sure smooth (old units usually slop quite abit, bushing issue)

e46...
-same as the above... more electronics...
-check vanos if present

e90....
-all the best
