Any recommendations for:
1. Brand = Any
2. Budget = rm45000
3. New/Used/Unreg = Used
4. Specs = Any
5. Transmission = Automatic
6. NA or FI = Any
7. Type = Sedan
8. Remarks : Buying as family car with 2 teenage kids. Most importantly cheap to own and maintain with good fuel consumption. Used to fetch my family of 4
hmmm vios/city being the common non-brainer choices.... any other criterias? space, safety?
other notable cars include
kia forte
+maintanance is alright
+fairly reliable car
+resale isnt as good as the 'T' brand (this is good for you since you are purchasing used)
-certain bits will cost more, but those bits are not really bits that go wrong often
inspira/lancer
-does cost more than a vios to maintain and run, bigger engine, cvt, more expensive wear and tear bits, etc
+all in all a better car (on the sportier side, might not be your cup of tea)
-fc is higher but again, more sporty car, much more powerful and nicer to drive
+parts not gona be an issue for a long time
+actually a good car all in all
civic
- in many ways, similar to the inspira, just by honda, also a good car
sylphy (facelift)
-this thing is ugly... i really mean ugly, cannot emphasize enough how ugly it is (at least to me it's butt ugly)
-make sure its one of the later batches, earlier batches had some cvt related issues
-maintanance might not be the cheapest
+this thing is spacious and heck the ride is lovely.... its really comfortable, probably the most comfortable car in the class
+fc is also alright long as you have a light foot
persona
+new + warranty
+ newest tech
+ safety is where proton excels
+ fc is actually good, very good
- technically smallest car
- crappy 'P'/thundercats badge
- local car
- god its slow (but this means fuel savings!!)
-base spec 50k (con since slightly outside budget)
*if you want to use for long term, can deal with the lack of space, 50k price AND 'P' badge
**since car is new, interest should be lower, calculate it properly and it might be viable

Thanks! I have been looking around for 2012 vios or 2008 altis for 45000. I actually prefer altis but it is from 2008, hence I'm more hesitant about the maintenance.
Any advise?

2012 vios
will be a very bare car.... vioses are very reliable cars but up till the recently released model, they were technically never very good value for money, specsheet vs dollar wise. Considering its silly resale value, personally would only recommend the car if its new and you didnt really want to keep it for long, or really really really dislike risks no matter how negligible ('T' guys do have a very good track record when it comes to reliability).
altis
now this is actually a rather decent car, its got a fair amount of safety related toys such as abs,vsc and tcs onboard the top range models (frankly go for the top spec units). just keep in mind that, when you go for a larger (diferent segment) car, maintanance costs do go up, this is something you will just have to accept, and since the car is older (almost 10) more bits will have to be replaced, that said its a very reliable car as well.
(2010 models with the updated grill/foggies have a cvt tranny, that means more fuel savings but cost abit more for fluids and its sort of out of your budget)
