QUOTE(yen2009 @ Nov 18 2016, 08:30 PM)
Hi all, I am currently a Malaysian undergraduate who needs to intern for my last semester next year.

Currently I am offered an intern position in SG, they asked me to apply for Work Holiday Pass (WHP) as my working visa.
According to MOM's website (http://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/w...mme/eligibility), WHP is only for undergraduates from Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, United Kingdom or United States.

Meanwhile, in the WHP application form, there is actually columns for Malaysian.
So I have two questions here:
1) Does that mean we as Malaysian can apply WHP straight away by ignoring the eligibility I mentioned above?

2) In the application form, MOM asks for Address in Singapore. How do I fill in this address when I have not even moved in SG yet?
*
The criteria posted on the MOM website are usually more like guidelines
I would assume you can still apply if you're from Malaysia, just that your chance of getting approved is lower
An example would be the minimum salary for EP qualification where many have reported getting their EP approved despite having a lower salary

I would assume the HR knows best and just follow what they ask

For local address, check with your HR, but i'm guessing you can input the company's address

Yes check with your HR, when I sign on for my current company they process everything from IPA to EP card. No self collect at MOM.
I  used to carry my passport with me. Until I got my EP then i just lock my passport in the drawer at rented room.  thumbup.gif

You didn't have to visit the MOM office at all?
That's pretty good, last year i had to visit MOM to take picture and some other stuff

don't simply buy dual sim phone, if really want , buy those with 4G+3G dual standby phone as 2G will be obsolete soon
*
Actually does it matter much since we're using 2 sims from different countries?
Unless you want to data roam with your MY sim card in SG for some reason

I'm using the LG G5 dual sim and turn on the MY sim only to receive SMS mainly

It means Ur malaySia sim card next time when turn on can't even receive SMS
*
Because its roaming 2G it cannot receive SMS?
That's not true, I've been receiving SMS without problem

edit: I got what you mean now, when 2G service ends in SG which is said to be 2017
Guess that is a problem indeed, hope it'll take them a while to actually discontinue 2G

well maybe can convince her spore has good nursery or childcare centers.
*
I don't have experience myself, but pretty sure SG has better nurseries and childcare in general
Now the price of them, and availability (location, getting an open spot) is a different story

heard they are expensive.

everytime I hear people go to Spore to work, all don't want to have kids.

either that or one of the couple have to stay at home to raise the kid while the other works.
*
You have to understand the first world country situation (Japan, Scandinavian countries, etc)
Even if it wasn't due to cost, the birth rate would be low

But focusing on the money aspect, it's simple
How much does you or your wife earn vs the child care cost?
Unless you're earning less than 2+k each or have more than 2 children, it usually doesn't make sense to stop working and care for the child

That's purely the money aspect of course

She get to bring her kids to workplace. Can you? Haha
*
His logic is simple
She is saying stay at home full time = prioritizing your family = best for your family regardless of the pay you sacrifice
Yet she is bringing her child to work, instead of practicing what she preaches

Unless she believes bringing her child to work is exactly the same as taking care of your child full time, which is obviously not the case

IMO, it's alright and better than leaving your kids to someone else's hands full time.
At least when they're still baby.

That's already better than average working family in SG. My manager for example, both him and his wife are working. Daughter is only 1.5 years old now full time nursery+preschool. Only bring home at night.

Not entirely good but #nochoice.

If I've got a choice, I'll probably do the same biggrin.gif For the fun factor of it tongue.gif As in bringing my own kid to work biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
*
Sure, that's a good opinion and i can agree with that too
But you have to understand the way Fiona is making her comments, she is putting down anyone who decides to work instead of staying home with their kids

There are all kinds of situations in this world, making a hard and fast judgement like that is unfair which is what some here disagree on

4-5k SGD is because i am a Malaysian or it is standard Singapore rate? Like this better work in Malaysia - if lucky get into oil and gas can earn the same conversion rate value in Malaysia.
4-5k SGD after tax, feels like quite tight if plan to rent a 2-bedroom flat and bring family there...
*
If you are able to earn RM12-15k with just 5 years of exp (meaning you are young) then why look into SG?
With a family you can have a much better life with RM12k in MY compared to SGD6k in SG

If you are jobless now, it is better to get S$3 -4K than nothing, even tho you may be getting RM10k b4 jobless.

That is obviously not the situation presented
Even getting RM2k is better than RM10k before jobless of course....

Your example is not realistic. In the example given, I think S$4k is still acceptable becos if translated to RM, it is still about RM12k, which is higher than what he earned at RM9k or RM10k. In this case, you ignore the cost of living. I am trying to say S$4k is still justifiable. If it's just S$2k, then maybe not.
*
My point is that is not the scenario he was asking about (jobless)
He is asking with a current job of RM10k being offered SGD 3.5-4.0k making the "better than being jobless" statement redundant

I know of real cases like what I was describing, whereby you can accept a job of S$4k, even though you were earning RM10k. It actually doesn't matter he was jobless or not. He could very well be jobless, but even if that's not the case, if he really wants the job, I am saying, it's not inconceivable for that guy to accept the job.

Nvm forget it, why did i even try

It's the old fool's thinking that advice can only be based off experience
That's why all the old people are left behind in time thinking "I've done it before so i know more than those young guys"

Anyone looking for a room to rent?
I'm moving out of mine in Feb, helping my landlady find a new tenant

5-10mins walk from Bishan MRT (or 1 bus stop away)
$650 inclusive of utilities and wifi (air cond at night only)
Large common room, well furnished as I will be leaving some furniture behind (queen sized bed, computer desk, shelf)
Kind landlady that won't bother you and wont have any crazy requirements
