My crystal ball says SPx will drop below last month lows in the next few months.

And we have yield curve inversion in US Treasuries

2 years : 3.42%
10 year: 3.37%

* At time of writing

This is second time, first time was in March this year.

Treasury market is warning that recession is coming.

hmm.gif I do have question regards to "Panic Sales" during a recession/market crash
A lot of videos promotes to hold and continue to buy or dollar cost average during a recession or market crash.
But from my perspective, "Selling" when a market is crashing isn't necessary a bad thing, isn't selling part of the exit strategy? i mean to hold cold cash and buy when market dip further?

Take my TSLA as example with my Avg price is $1000. If i were to sell all when it drop to $900, and buy again when it drop to $700.... even if it's continue to drop below $700 at least i avoided the $200 lost in between than compare to when i hold $1000 and the stock drop to under $700
*
Even if I believe in the stock so much, I will probably reduce my positions by 50% when I see really bad headwind coming.

But of course, the best solution is not to buy TSLA at USD1k.

So far, the S&P500 has a drawdown of 23.5% since the start of the year. If recession were to hit USA, I wonder if the drawdown this time will be as bad as in 2008 of around 50%. If it is gonna be similar, then the S&P500 index could potentially drop until 2400 level? mega_shok.gif
*
For 50% drawdown, I think u will need a financial crisis, in addition to a recession. Some sort of big corporate or bank failure.

Got an alert that EWM (iShares for Malaysia) is at 52 weeks low: 21.87. Maybe going to test pandemic low again at 20.22.
Took a quick peek at its mother index: ^KLSE.. low and behold, it's at 52 weeks low again at 1456 close.

Darn.. feel tempted to get some but on second thoughts looks like could be dead money for the next 12 months
other than the juicy dividends (5.7%).  hmm.gif
*
Why u want t o buy EWM? U will get witholding tax on dividends.

If u want Malaysia, buy Bursa stocks directly

I got an US account (roth ira) that doesn't get tax on dividends or gains. Besides, no fees on buying or selling (except for small sec reg.fee)
Just trying to get some exposure on emerging market thru this account.

Already got a mixed bag of EWT, EWH, EWS, EWZ, EWY but no EWM so far. Some of them were added during pandemic lows of 2020 and positions were
re-balanced in March. I usually re-balance it every quarter. Got about 35% cash positions now, need to reinvest again if we revisit the lows.  tongue.gif
*
Wow..that's nice.

Looking to earnings season next month. Negative sentiment, high inflation, interest rate and dollar. Wait for impact on corporate profits of the US large caps.

but srsly just practice DCA.. dont lump sum during these times.

if bull market returns and shoot up, you will relieve didn't miss the boat. If go down it's ok, buy MOAR later.
Hope Ukraine War fast2 over.. so long liao they still shooting each other dry.gif
*
Why want to even DCA if u think market has further downside?

Isnt it better to just keep bullets until later?

Then the million dollar question would be, "When is the right time to enter?"

Perhaps like the youtube post above mention one of the possible option is to wait until the Fed's stance changes or at least rumors of Fed stance changes then only enter the market again.
*
That's also my approach. Wait for Fed pause, before going into US equities.

hmm.gif We shouldn't based on historical chart, but as of now we don't even know where is the bottom. the chart won't be clear until few months of uptrend?

For me charts are secondary..

Back in March 2020, more important was when governments all over the world started dropping interest rates and pumping trillions. That was a sign to go in.

To be frank, it wasn't such an easy decision at that time and there were many doubters.

Wahh.... using DCA left, right and center.
Why cannot call it as it is meh? Average Down sounds terrible eh?
and please if possible, show the math when Average Down la...

every time fall, buy same quantity as per initial purchase? or buy double the quantity?
*
Wah...Boon visiting USA discussion..Bursa not good enough 😂

Anyways, DCA can be average down or average up. Mechanically buying over a long period at roughly same dollar amount over roughly same intervals (eg monthly).

Don't panic, don't time the market..DCA..that's the mantra.

If the stock falls back to 2020 level, does that means these two years there's literally no profit for those who invested into the stock since 2020?
*
Unless that person takes profit earlier.

Entry n exit are important.
