How you know I didn't make more than the 100% in BABA when I move my capital else where? I have more than 10 stocks that have 100% and above.

I have never ever owned a stock that has gone 100% up. You must have made a lot of money trading US stocks! May I ask since when did u start trading US stocks?

Then if your trading income is more than your main, ie full time job income, does that mean trading is your main income?

My point is since over here there has been mentioned passive income > salary, does one even declare as income per se

Nowadays, I am mostly doing buy and hold s&p etfs, and try using options to better the returns of these etfs. Like you suggested, selling OTM puts to generate some income, and selling OTM calls.

From what I understand, we do not have capital gain tax. As for local dividend, we will only be tax after the first 100k. Dividend from oversea is tax free provided the dividend you received have been accounted for withholding tax if the countries that you are trading with have signed double taxation avoidance agreement.

Capital gain is buy and hold.

Dividend is straight forward and yes, there’s the new one recently for local dividend.

Options and day trading whereby buy and sell on a regular basis is where it’s not clearly defined at the moment. There has been instances whereby day trading/regular buy-sell can be subjected to income tax as some highlighted. Same goes to crypto whereby recently it has been announced it’s subjected to tax even though guidelines are not clear at the moment.

I am asking because I can see many are discussing on options trading winning 5 digits monthly in the other threads as well as the shorting in quantums of 6 figures and profiting high double digits in here…frequent buy and sell as far as I know is considered trading and is subjected to income tax. No?

If you invest and hold, over 100% up is normal.

I have even 2000% up stock.

I think this is also known as short term capital gain which is still not taxable now, opposite is true for local properties or unlisted stock from local companies. Cannot find anything about short selling so I assumed it does not exist, same goes to option trading biggrin.gif

I only started trading US stocks in about 2021. And, it could have taken me about a year before realizing that s&p based etf is the way forward. Before that, i just take profits whenever the stocks moved up. So, if u said you have stocks that moved up 2,000%, you must have held it for a long time. A HODL stock.

No need legend. You just need to buy and hodl the right companies.
Companies like Brookfield, Arthur J Gallagher are non tech and if you just buy and hodl easily few x.

Everyone thinks have to hodl tech.

BN or BAM? Already up a lot in 1 year. Still worth it to buy now? Or wait for pullback?

My first stock was Apple before Steve Jobs passed away and I still keep the apple stocks now. That's how long I have been investing. I accumulate stocks of great companies and hold long term. Ignore the market noise as long as the fundamentals of the companies are still good. Basically, don't cut the flowers and keep the weeds. Trimming the weeds will be fine.
