Update on the 1.1.1 Jailbreaking development:-
It appears that those who uses the IPSF app WITH an activated AT&T sim card would be safe from this relocking menace. Other methods and/or other sim card combos are still caught and brought back to jail. This include the AnySIM app/method, which gives an "Incorrect SIM" message on all sim card used. Those who uses the IPSF app WITH the activated AT&T sim card however, can only use the AT&T card, other cards will give the "Incorrect SIM" message as well. I still have the AT&T sim card, but not activated. Hmmmmm... |

Crack the AT&T jail-shell people, and you'll see a beautiful iPhone butterfly fly free.

QUOTE(hokkianu @ Sep 27 2007, 11:20 AM) ok, after i google for few days about the maxis call in problem .... someone pls inform maxis tech guy: You know a few days back I also got the generic reply from Maxis customer service regarding the iPhone inoperability in Malaysia, and they were saying it as if it's incompatible with a "maxis Sim card" or something like that - they ought to know its not really the sim card! I roamed over to Singapore yesterday and it worked! M1, Singtel, Starhub, they all worked! with a maxis sim card! update the celltower firmware from nokia-siemens anywhere, i already email maxis, if someone got maxis "insider" there, pls inform them as well But yeah..bumping this cuz maxis need to get this thing fixed.. taking sooooooo long... |

"They're sleeping with their market domination"
That's what my buddy portray Maxis. Which I think very true. Just some small update for everyone regarding the call-in problem. My gang sort of listed down some possible reason: 1) iPhone was built so it works seamlessly switchhing from WiFI to EDGE when WiFi is unavailable (remember, you should be on AT&T data plan, lol). So, in such situation, meaning the iPhone will transmit EDGE communication every now and then. Causing the relay tower thinking that our number are actually busy/ unavailable. Therefore we need to test disabling the EDGE (turn off in more accurate, some other way to disable are just messing up the APN). Or wait for Maxis to patch their firmware so EDGE & Call can works parallel. 2) This is speculation, but tru my conversation with expereince telco technician, it's very likely Maxis f*ck-up their hardware/software inplementation. In conclusion, if the fixes on Maxis end require manual alteration to the hardware/relay towers, it's most like they won't do it. If it is like the Kuwait telco cases, where by the patches can be uploaded via wireless to the towers/hardware, we can wait for few more weeks. |

QUOTE(Flight123 @ Sep 25 2007, 04:32 PM) Can i suugest that we start with this guy: Say.. you know someone said earlier we should harassed the CTO?(from http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/about_us/people/senior.asp) Jon Hoffmann Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of Network Engineering & Operations (NEO) Jon was appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of Network Engineering & Operations (NEO). He will be responsible for the operations of the Maxis telecommunications network. Jon brings with him over 21 years of telecommunications experience. He joins us from Wataniya Telecom, Kuwait where he last held the position of Chief Technology Officer. Jon was successful in replacing/upgrading all of Wataniya Telecom's technical infrastructure components including Radio, Core, VAS, CRM and Billing in a relatively short time with HSDPA, all IP, converged Internet, Fixed net, Mobile net, Prepaid and Postpaid. Prior to that, Jon was with Telenor Nordic Mobile, Norway (the parent company of Sonofon) as the CTO where he assumed responsibility to merge the IT and Network organization of the Telenor Mobile operations of Telenor Mobil Norway, Djuice Sweden and Sonofon Denmark. He was also employed with Sonofon Denmark as Chief Technology Officer and Jydsk Telefon in Denmark and Germany as Manager, Software Development. Jon holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering specializing in EDP Systems from Aalborg University. If there is anyone who knows (or of someone from maxis) who can get us his email address, perhaps we can all write a petition to him. Maybe he only sits in his office and answers his emails without any access whatsoever to the internet and the news relating to maxis as a service provider??? I'm willing to give try and spam various alternatives of his mailbox..can't be that far off right? jon.hoffman@maxis.com.my jon-hoffman@maxis.com.my hoffman-jon@maxis.com.my hoffman.jon@maxis.com.my.. etc etc.. You get my meaning.. heh. If he doesn't fix it.. well.. we could always help him subscribe to a couple of issues of <removed> or Spam-dailies.. |

So is it possible to jailbreak a 1.1.1 now?
If we purchase a 1.1.1 unit can the firmware be downgraded to be unlocked? |

No solutions for 1.1.1 model yet.
If you buy one now and get a 1.1.1 you're currently out of luck. I don't believe you can even downgrade it? no jailbreak - nada. nothing can be done. (i could be wrong though) This post has been edited by tarpaucase: Sep 28 2007, 02:55 PM |

QUOTE(abang brother @ Sep 28 2007, 08:25 AM) Every songs in iTunes Music Store that is eligible to make ringtones will have a 'bell icon' next to it. So you can cut the part of the songs you like and make a purchase and to be sync with your iPhone later on, 99 cents per ringtone. Also 99 cents per full song. You can't buy full song then cut later for ringtone purposes. Pay $1.98 for ringtone and full song. |

or you could be naughty and go the route of iToner. One-time fee for making ringtones of everything you have. (of course new firmware doesn't like it)

I found this via the net but am not very tech savvy enough to try it... can let me know if it will work? I will then try to get my fren to help me to the WinSCP thingy: So here's how to get rid of EDGE!- it unfortunately requires some knowledge of SSH or at least the graphical SSH (WinSCP). Note: Prior to doing this you need to have OpenSSH installed on your phone through iBrickr. Step 1: SSH into your phone You do this by getting a program called Putty or WinSCP and remotely connecting to your iPhone. Do this by first connecting your iPhone to your local WiFi and then checking to see the IP. Use this IP to log in. The username / password is root and dottie. Step 2: Go to this directory - /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration Step 3: Back up preferences.plist by copying it to some other file name (preferences.backup) and then copy it over to your desktop. Step 4: Open preferences.plist in Wordpad and search for the term "cingular". You'll see this: <key>apn</key> <string> wap.cingular</string> <key>password</key> <string>CINGULAR1</string> <key>username</key> <string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string> Change the string "wap.cingular" to "whatever" (or anything you want). Step 5: Copy the preferences.plist file back to your iPhone. Restart, and you should now be off the EDGE network! |

I believe this is the same as simply setting your EDGE settings on the gui-interface to a wrong-name so you can't login to 'edge' data network
Anyhow I've tried that. Doesn't work. |

No, the one I'm looking for is not messing with APN. Messing the APN setup will only render it unable to connect, but the EDGE is still running/active. What we want is something to kill the EDGE totally. Something like power-off the EDGE chip.
At the moment, no 3rd party apps can do so. Only in FW 1.1.1 have this function. |
