"They're sleeping with their market domination"
That's what my buddy portray Maxis. Which I think very true.
Just some small update for everyone regarding the call-in problem. My gang sort of listed down some possible reason:
1) iPhone was built so it works seamlessly switchhing from WiFI to EDGE when WiFi is unavailable (remember, you should be on AT&T data plan, lol). So, in such situation, meaning the iPhone will transmit EDGE communication every now and then. Causing the relay tower thinking that our number are actually busy/ unavailable. Therefore we need to test disabling the EDGE (turn off in more accurate, some other way to disable are just messing up the APN). Or wait for Maxis to patch their firmware so EDGE & Call can works parallel.
2) This is speculation, but tru my conversation with expereince telco technician, it's very likely Maxis f*ck-up their hardware/software inplementation.
In conclusion, if the fixes on Maxis end require manual alteration to the hardware/relay towers, it's most like they won't do it. If it is like the Kuwait telco cases, where by the patches can be uploaded via wireless to the towers/hardware, we can wait for few more weeks.
Hi Wei,
I found this via the net but am not very tech savvy enough to try it... can let me know if it will work? I will then try to get my fren to help me to the WinSCP thingy:
So here's how to get rid of EDGE!- it
unfortunately requires some knowledge of SSH or at least the graphical SSH
(WinSCP).
Note: Prior to doing this you need to have OpenSSH installed on your phone
through iBrickr.
Step 1: SSH into your phone
You do this by getting a program called Putty or WinSCP and remotely
connecting to your iPhone. Do this by first connecting your iPhone to
your local WiFi and then checking to see the IP. Use this IP to log
in.
The username / password is root and dottie.
Step 2: Go to this directory -
/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Step 3: Back up preferences.plist by copying it to some other file
name (preferences.backup) and then copy it over to your desktop.
Step 4: Open preferences.plist in Wordpad and search for the term
"cingular".
You'll see this:
<key>apn</key>
<string> wap.cingular</string>
<key>password</key>
<string>CINGULAR1</string>
<key>username</key>
<string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string>
Change the string "wap.cingular" to "whatever" (or anything you want).
Step 5: Copy the preferences.plist file back to your iPhone.
Restart, and you should now be off the EDGE network!
