Elementun is ok for Kodi 18, but not quasar. How you roll back to 17. 6?

Even on 17.6, Elementum refused to install and run properly.. Kept throwing a crash notification upon each start up. Tried with updated to and freshly installed 18.0 and still kept crashing. Quasar works, so I rolled back. How? Simply uninstall the 18.0, install 17.6 apk (downloadable from Kodi's website) and restore backup.. Back in business..

Device: Minix Neo U1.. What's yours that Elementum works and which zip file did you download?

Just updataed Kodi 17.6 to Kodi 18. All addons intact (PC & Android Box).

initial auto-update does not give any problem to Elementum, except Quasar. Rolled back to 17.6, now Quasar OK but Elementum repeated crashs on start-up. Update to 18.0 again, now Elementum crashes too. Few time back and forth 17.6 & 18.0, re-install Elementum again again, still problem.

I did googled found out simple solution:

just change the download path for elementum. Now using Kodi 18.0, with elementum 0.71 (all -in-one for official website: http://elementum.surge.sh/ ).

Will say bye to Quasar for now.

btw: Mine is minix u9-h too.

Yeah.. read about that fix earlier but didn't have the time to implement and test out yet.. Just did and it works.. Though it's wonky. Updated current installation to 18.0, installed Elementum, changed download folder and rebooted.. worked cuz it then prompted to install the burst addon. After that, it's been finicky to buffer and play smoothly.. Unlike Quasar that just played immediately upon buffer finishing.. Will try again later but on a clean 18.0 install.. See how.

it will get updated again if u use official 17.6, whether from playstore or apk.

the only way is to stop updates at playstore settings... but that will affect all apps - it's all or nothing.

kodi 18 is now the official version in both generic androidtv playstores.

if all is intact, it's good for 4.

is yr remote working ok with kodi18?

not entirely sure what i did but i got quasar back to work on kodi18.

everytime 17.6 is installed, it gets updated the next day.
quasar will then give IO error.
i was contemplating on using forks or try elementum (which i did not like very much the last time i tried).

i always keep a recent copy of org.xbmc.kodi for my build which is just quasar.
this time, i removed everything kodi, then copied org.xbmc.kodi onto the data folder first.
then only i install kodi 18 from playstore.
all is good now, incl DD, DD+ 5.1 audio passthru and transcoding.
**the remote control stops working (likely need himedia firmware update) but mouse is fine.
device is himedia q10pro.

** need to remap the remote... not so difficult:
.. need mouse
.. settings/system/input/configure controller
.. choose tv remote
.. follow instructions: for each prompt, press the key on remote.
.. impt: ok (select) and return (back) functions are switched, so press correctly.

Thanks for sharing.. Though, I intend to give Elementum a chance to work properly seeing as it's the better maintained fork.. Good thing I already have my library synced with Trakt. Will try Elementum on a fresh install. See if still doesn't work as smooth as Quasar did..

No good... once u get out and go back in, same io error.

Conclusion... for now, quasar is not usable.

Now using Elementum... its cleaner than the last version i tried.

But...seems the DL speed is much slower than quasar.

I too can see it's a much slower download than using Quasar earlier..I'm still battling with Elementum though and trying to get Trakt sync accurately..

after using it a while, i am not not sure...

it seems the displayed % DL is the point of play, not how much is done unlike quasar.

i.e., it may be showing 10% at 10% mark of the playback but it may be 80% down already.

and when u pause, DL goes to zero, unlike quasar which keeps going but maybe, again, just play is paused while DL continues.

not sure... maybe just a diff approach in the display data.


another thing is it does not seem to save/keep even when the setting is such, no prompts appear.

this may be due to some incompatibility with kodi 18, possible a bug to be fixed..?

still, for now, it suffices as an alternative.

I noticed all these problems too.. Thought it was just mine.. It's too buggy. I've been trying different settings/downloads styles and combinations.. All to no avail. On Quasar, I had prebuffering set at 100MB and it prebuffers fine and keeps playing smoothly. On Elementum, even 50MB seems to be a problem and it doesn't know or is too buggy to load the cache properly whilst downloading the forward parts of the content.. Arrrghh.. Will take another crack at it today and if still problematic? I'll just rollback to Krypton and wait for its future updates.

Kodi 18 leia give a problem to me. quasar is no longer working.
So for those in kodi 18 leia, here are tips how you are going to install elementum (similar) to quasar.
1. follow this step to install elementum:

2. you will see elementum is crash. go to elementum setting in addon and scroll to download path. Change the download path.

3. Success install elementum. Elementum is quite slow compare to quasar.

4. Once you click play movie, please wait for a while because the movies can be stuck. After wait, it will run smoothly and you can download substitle.

Elementum Download speed and it buffer for a while after select a movie. No other choice have to use this

if u mean time to get enough to play, yes, like quasar.

other than that, it plays good.

only problem is i haven't figured out how to save the file if i want to.

do u know how? tried it?

i have to roll back to 17.6 and install quasar. Cannot stand with elementum slow in kodi 18
