For existing P990i owners, does our P990i sold locally (Thorus / AP) comes with  BST-34 battery (1120mAh) or BST-33 (950mAh)? Any idea?  hmm.gif

BST-33 included in the package...not BST-34... cool2.gif
that's as what they mentioned... icon_rolleyes.gif
heard that BST-34 isn't available in Malaysia either as in one package or optional accessories... unsure.gif
anyone can verify this... cool.gif

If for K800i, BST-33 is sufficient but P990i has a bigger screen and it's more power hungry since it's running on Symbian OS, it doesn't make sense to use BST-33. I'm sure the standby time is pretty bad, correct me if I'm wrong. I thought of buying one because of its Wi-Fi since the price of a P990i is crashing down now. It will be a good buy after CNY I guess.

Too bad, there are very limited softwares for P990i, it's a good phone but with limited softwares. It's the same as a Nokia Communicator, it will be headache to find softwares to use on it. It's a pity. cry.gif

yeah..same with M600i. standby time pretty bad too. not sure about others but mine usually last 1 day only. sad.gif P990i's price is going down? why? its still quite new in the market rite? usually tech gadgets price go down after CNY?? tongue.gif

yup..agreed. symbian OS 9.0 UIQ 3.0 softwares are quite limited. what OS is Nokia Communicator running on? well..if u really a person who fully utilised lotsa PDA functions in a phone..Windows Mobile based PDA phones will suit u better. there are tonnes of softwares out there for u to choose..unlimited. i wanted to go for O2 Mini at 1st since it's quite affordable & runs on WM2003SE. but i SMS alot so guess phones with QWERTY keyboard is better for me. those QWERTY keyboard based PDA phones like O2 Atom Exec & Dopod 838 Pro are way too expensive for a student like me. so ended up with M600i. happy with it. rclxms.gif smile.gif

Wah, standby time only 1 day? rclxub.gif It reminds me of my old Samsung T-400, I had to charge it everyday because of the nice screen and polyphonic sound, a very power hungry phone.

Is the M600i screen bigger than P990i, I know the resolution is the same for both. Well, P990i, for AP set is only around RM1800 or less, this phone is selling very poorly, even the M600i is doing much better. When there's no demand, I'm sure the price will be crashing down. Same like P910i last time, a year and a half later, the price went down by RM1K for ori set. doh.gif

My old P900i is using BST-15, 1260 mAh and it could last around 2-3 days but if P990i is using BST-33, 950 mAh, I worry it won't last 1 day for my case. It should be more power hungry as P990i has a 262K TFT screen whereas a P900i has a 64K TFT screen, more colours mean more power consumption. sweat.gif

The trouble with Symbian Os is that not many companies are willing to write softwares for this platform as there are only a handful of phone with Symbian OS and no doubt, most Symbian phones come with a powerful processor and can even play 3D games as well but sadly, there are no softwares to take advantage of this. If I'm not mistaken, the P990i's processor is many many times better than the previous model but I have yet to see any impressive softwares or games. It's a waste actually. I'm not too sure about Nokia Communicator, my uncle used to have one but sold it as he wasn't impressed with the availability of the softwares for his device.

Yeah, Windows Mobile based PDA phones are better, I gotta agree with you. Wah, you're lucky already, last time when I was in college, a handphone is a luxury unlike nowadays, my little cousins are already using SE K320i. doh.gif Imagine that. shakehead.gif M600i ain't that bad, you're lucky to own one seriously. nod.gif

yeah..so sad for me. got nice phone but battery life sucks. most i can get is 1 day & half. which means very less calls & SMS. sad.gif

for ori sets the price is still around RM2.6k rite? well..not many ppl use dis kinda fon. only those businessman or gadget freaks. maybe thats why low demand. youngsters usually prefer those SE or Nokia N-series. cool to them i think.

even old P900i using such high capacity battery? wonder why SE not using one for its M600i or P990i..maybe they left this out.

well..if for Nokia's Symbian..there's lotsa softwares for it. use to own a 3660 & 6630. can find their softwares anywhere. just for UIQ 3.0..its kinda limited. admit its such a waste. hopefully in future those software developers will develop more softwares for UIQ. smile.gif

haha..consider myself lucky to own one but get it with my own pocket money. always kena parents nag when change new phone..they said waste money. blush.gif
hehe..anyway..i'm proud with this phone. the best i ever use so far. biggrin.gif

Frankly, businessmen don't use such phones like P990i, according to statistics, mostly teenagers buy handphones more than RM1K whereas businessmen will buy those cheap and practical phones for making and receiving phone calls, they don't need a camera, mp3 player, touchscreen or even 3G either. That's why when shops see us go near them, they will welcome us with hands.gif . brows.gif

It has been almost a year now but I think P990i is not as successful as the previous two models, very few people are buying it, you see more people with O2 than this model. sweat.gif I guess with such a customer base, nobody is willing to write softwares, apps or games for it. It's not worth their time, money and effort. At least, M600i has more softwares to download and use, it's better than nothing.

They could do something about the battery life by giving us the option to buy a higher capacity battery or better still, use solar power to reduce power consumption. rclxm9.gif

If i am not mistaken, P990i has only been released for few months, not a year. It was announced end of 2005 but got delayed till September 2006 due to bugs. Pls correct me if i am wrong. smile.gif

At the price of RM2600, i think P990i is actually better than O2 Atom Exec which falls in the same price range. No doubt O2 runs Windows Mobile and has more software support, but the unimpressive camera and the lack of keyboard, and 3G make it an underdog to P990i.

Symbian OS 9.1 is quite new to the scene, therefore software support is poor. However, more and more softwares are being developed for it. So i think we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully more UIQ3 phones will be out in the market so more developers are willing to write softwares for this platform.

To all the P990 taikos here, how is the WIFI connection function in your P990i? From what I understand P990i comes with 802.11b, which the cover range is very poor from my experience on my PSP. I installed my Router at the ground floor back room and when I get up to the master bedroom the signal is so poor. Some advices please as I am about to get myself a P990i soon. Many Thanks
