If i am not mistaken, P990i has only been released for few months, not a year. It was announced end of 2005 but got delayed till September 2006 due to bugs. Pls correct me if i am wrong.  smile.gif

At the price of RM2600, i think P990i is actually better than O2 Atom Exec which falls in the same price range. No doubt O2 runs Windows Mobile and has more software support, but the unimpressive camera and the lack of keyboard, and 3G make it an underdog to P990i.

Symbian OS 9.1 is quite new to the scene, therefore software support is poor. However, more and more softwares are being developed for it. So i think we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully more UIQ3 phones will be out in the market so more developers are willing to write softwares for this platform.
*
Sep 2006? Errr...... not around April 2006? Well, I have forgotten actually but it has very poor UIQ 3 software support. Good phone but let down by poor software support, at least the previous models had more softwares and games to install. Sigh ...... with the price crashing down like that, it shows that it's not popular among the crowd. O2 might not be perfect but it's running on Windows Mobile OS so it has plenty of softwares to cater all market segments. Just pray hard that SE will do something about this. sweat.gif

To all the P990 taikos here, how is the WIFI connection function in your P990i? From what I understand P990i comes with 802.11b, which the cover range is very poor from my experience on my PSP. I installed my Router at the ground floor back room and when I get up to the master bedroom the signal is so poor. Some advices please as I am about to get myself a P990i soon. Many Thanks
*
Well, if I'm not mistaken, signal strength is poor is your router is downstairs and you're upstairs, I'm using Belkin router, signal is slightly better but not impressive. At least, it was better than my Prolink. doh.gif Try getting a 5dbi gain antenna for your router, that should extend the range a little and improve your Wi-Fi signal strength. smile.gif

Thanks for the advice bro, but by adding the gain antenna? Will the internet speed decrease ?

I've tried my 802.11b laptop and it works fine, just wondering if the P990i WIFI function is the same as PSP, because is from SONY ... if it's so, hmmmm rclxub.gif

If i am not mistaken, P990i was available in April for reviewers only. Back then, many bugs were reported such as bad photo quality and extremely buggy interface so SE had to postpone it's launch. (i read this from a web site, forgot which one sweat.gif )

ooOOo..P990i's WIFI class is B? I didn't know that till now. Hehe...
I was planning to get the P990i but after thinking it for a while, I rather stick back with my M600i. I've put a leather case on my M600i ever since I got it first time but yesterday I've taken it out and wow, didn't notice it was that slim and sleek looking. The more I look at it, the more I love it!
The downside for me is no camera though, but guess you can have a perfect phone. tongue.gif

I read there's a new firmware, does the new firmware allow us to write in chinese already? Anyone care to share websites where I can find free MP4 for M600i? THanks a lot!

I'm planning to get M600i or W950i, but for those who use it, I want to know how its video playback capabilities. In GSMReviews it say that it can play video at 640x480 at 30fps. Can someone confirm this? I'm very concern about video playback since these phone don't have camera and I usually watching video on my current Xphone and W700i phone so I need a good phone for watching video

well..videos run smoothly without any lag on my M600i. but i think W950i can perform better as its more to a multimedia phone. M600i is more to a business phone. but W950 is kinda pricey. So if u wanna go for ur budget..take M600i. that's what i think. smile.gif

M600i, W950i, P990i all using the exact processor and same ram configuration, so i think video playback is the same for all these phones.

I don't think so, the antenna is to give you a better coverage in your house and also reduce some blind sports for your Wi-Fi signal. Speed is not affected.

Thanks for letting me know, I didn't keep track when it was launched but I'm seriously considering to buy it soon but dunno when. Maybe now or after CNY.

It is a nice software. It disables the transition effect when launching programs or opening up the menu. However, there's a small bug to it. It requires the user to re-enable the program once the phone is restarted. sad.gif

There'll be a new feature in the update of the swiss manager pro which is when you start SMP,it will also start tweak peak.

QUOTE
Tweak Peaks is a system enhancer utility that accelerates the display of your phone.

Tweak Peaks prevents transition effects and animations, so that menus open instantly, scrolling in lists becomes speedy, and the overall experience of using your phone improves. Finally you can have a truly fast UIQ3 phone!

Not that major a bug if that's the only problem with it. smile.gif
