I noticed that from the SE's site, there are no original softwares or even games for P990i. My friend bought one yesterday, he was cursing like made, other models have a stronger support when it comes to softwares or games but not P990i. Are there any sites or places that sell softwares for P990i? It's a big disappointment that such a wonderful smartphone has no softwares to download. I guess the smartphone is not fully utilized since it's capable to handle complex 3D games but sadly, I have yet to one which is good. I don't think Sky Force should be counted as one as it's also available for P900i and P910i.

If the softwares or games can be downloaded from SE's website that will be great in my opinion. It's more convenient I guess.

For existing P990i owners, does our P990i sold locally (Thorus / AP) comes with BST-34 battery (1120mAh) or BST-33 (950mAh)? Any idea?

If for K800i, BST-33 is sufficient but P990i has a bigger screen and it's more power hungry since it's running on Symbian OS, it doesn't make sense to use BST-33. I'm sure the standby time is pretty bad, correct me if I'm wrong. I thought of buying one because of its Wi-Fi since the price of a P990i is crashing down now. It will be a good buy after CNY I guess.

Too bad, there are very limited softwares for P990i, it's a good phone but with limited softwares. It's the same as a Nokia Communicator, it will be headache to find softwares to use on it. It's a pity.

Wah, standby time only 1 day? It reminds me of my old Samsung T-400, I had to charge it everyday because of the nice screen and polyphonic sound, a very power hungry phone.

Is the M600i screen bigger than P990i, I know the resolution is the same for both. Well, P990i, for AP set is only around RM1800 or less, this phone is selling very poorly, even the M600i is doing much better. When there's no demand, I'm sure the price will be crashing down. Same like P910i last time, a year and a half later, the price went down by RM1K for ori set.

My old P900i is using BST-15, 1260 mAh and it could last around 2-3 days but if P990i is using BST-33, 950 mAh, I worry it won't last 1 day for my case. It should be more power hungry as P990i has a 262K TFT screen whereas a P900i has a 64K TFT screen, more colours mean more power consumption.

The trouble with Symbian Os is that not many companies are willing to write softwares for this platform as there are only a handful of phone with Symbian OS and no doubt, most Symbian phones come with a powerful processor and can even play 3D games as well but sadly, there are no softwares to take advantage of this. If I'm not mistaken, the P990i's processor is many many times better than the previous model but I have yet to see any impressive softwares or games. It's a waste actually. I'm not too sure about Nokia Communicator, my uncle used to have one but sold it as he wasn't impressed with the availability of the softwares for his device.

Yeah, Windows Mobile based PDA phones are better, I gotta agree with you. Wah, you're lucky already, last time when I was in college, a handphone is a luxury unlike nowadays, my little cousins are already using SE K320i. Imagine that. M600i ain't that bad, you're lucky to own one seriously.

Frankly, businessmen don't use such phones like P990i, according to statistics, mostly teenagers buy handphones more than RM1K whereas businessmen will buy those cheap and practical phones for making and receiving phone calls, they don't need a camera, mp3 player, touchscreen or even 3G either. That's why when shops see us go near them, they will welcome us with .

It has been almost a year now but I think P990i is not as successful as the previous two models, very few people are buying it, you see more people with O2 than this model. I guess with such a customer base, nobody is willing to write softwares, apps or games for it. It's not worth their time, money and effort. At least, M600i has more softwares to download and use, it's better than nothing.

They could do something about the battery life by giving us the option to buy a higher capacity battery or better still, use solar power to reduce power consumption.

Sep 2006? Errr...... not around April 2006? Well, I have forgotten actually but it has very poor UIQ 3 software support. Good phone but let down by poor software support, at least the previous models had more softwares and games to install. Sigh ...... with the price crashing down like that, it shows that it's not popular among the crowd. O2 might not be perfect but it's running on Windows Mobile OS so it has plenty of softwares to cater all market segments. Just pray hard that SE will do something about this.


Well, if I'm not mistaken, signal strength is poor is your router is downstairs and you're upstairs, I'm using Belkin router, signal is slightly better but not impressive. At least, it was better than my Prolink. Try getting a 5dbi gain antenna for your router, that should extend the range a little and improve your Wi-Fi signal strength.

I don't think so, the antenna is to give you a better coverage in your house and also reduce some blind sports for your Wi-Fi signal. Speed is not affected.

Hopefully the successor to P990i will have Wi-Fi Pre-N specs and above.

I just bought a SE P990i recently. The phone is a little buggy and sluggish, it restarted twice when I tried to fast forward a video. I tried to update the phone's firmware but it stated that it has the latest firmware. The current firmware on my phone is as below:-

I bought an AP set, I didn't know it's not the generic set, that's why. I don't use Chinese character set anyway. Anyway, to reflash it to the generic set? Yeah, I'll try the two softwares you have recommended, hopefully it will solve my problems. Honestly speaking, my K800i is even faster and it doesn't even hang or restart by itself. I kena a few times with my P990i today, the phone has restarted for better performance.


It's worst than P900i and P910i, damn buggy ler, if it's not because of the Wi-Fi, I wouldn't have bought it, I think Nokia's N80 IE is much better but I like a touchscreen handphone with a virtual keyboard. Duh ....... SE really made a terrible phone this time. Luckily, I didn't sell off my P900i. Phew ....... thank God.

Can bring to SESC to flash the latest firmware, ar? Like that good lah, I hate the freaking Chinese text input and worst of all, it is buggy. I wouldn't mind going with the generic version. I've tried the free Wi-Fi access near a Starbucks outlet, it was okay, quite smooth but sometimes the connection will be lost if I put the phone on the table but if I'm holding it, it's okay. Damn ...... is the Wi-Fi antenna just behind the phone?

Are there any local application stores that sell original UIQ 3 softwares for P990i. I prefer getting them locally but it seems like the Sony Ericsson Malaysia website has no support for it at all, not a single application or game available.

I'm having the same set as you do my friend. Bummer ........ should have gotten the generic set instead.

I guess when the R9 update is ready for our sets, R10 is probably out for the generic sets.

It's a pity why M600i and W950i doesn't have Wi-Fi, it wouldn't cost SE a bomb to implement this feature.
