Guys, I just returned to Malaysia recently and everyone tells me I'm fortunate that my area is within TIME coverage. Happily, I signed up with them 7 months ago, and have called CS for approximately 15 times, and finally tonight, I discovered that someone else encountered the same issue, 2 years ago! They keep asking for me to email them my speedtest while connected to LAN, when I don't even connect any devices on LAN and well, see above (encountered everything above)!

With decent speed on LAN, they proceed to ignore my issue stating that they don't guarantee speed on wireless. And keep convincing me to buy a booster (FYI, my apartment is under 800 sqft!), and the cycle repeats everytime I call them. I wasn't even aware there's a 1 year guarantee for hardware, because I have suggested they send someone to come have a look, but they insisted not because speed on LAN is "acceptable" according to CS.

I was initially convinced that the router they gave me was poor (ZXHN H298N), but found out from my friends recently that they are using the same model in Europe (supplied by their ISP), and coverage is fine. I don't understand why won't TIME send someone to have a look at my devices, or perform a check/configuration, or at least guide me over the call instead of just asking me to restart my devices, suggesting I buy a booster, or requesting I send speedtest on LAN.

Sincerely hoping to get some assistance from some experts here.

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry to know what you are facing, but no worries, we are here to help.

Can I reconfirm, are you having poor signal or connection drops ?
*The user that you were referring to was actually using another Router (Linksys E1200).

Thanks.

Hi Bro,

Pelangi Utama right ?

I've reported for you....you will be receiving a call shotrly.

Please ask the Installer to use industrial strength double side tape to tape it.

Thanks.

I thought it is installed using paku. Double-sided tape will fall eventually also right..
*
It depends on standards of requirements set by the building management.. sometimes they have concerns that we have to adhere to.

We have some projects that installed using industrial strength double side tape that already last more than 5 years...no drop off at all... of course there are ways of doing that.. haha..

Hi bros.

Need some advice on upgrading the router to cater for more users. Currently my SOHO office has upgraded from Unifi to Time Fibre. For the first few days it was ok, but now the speed is unbearably slow compare to Unifi.

Some background, our small office has around 10 users connected to one Time Fibre router. In the past we had the same setup as Unifi, and we have 1 Linksys WRT1900ACS router and 2 wifi AP for users to connect to.

I figure the connection is slow because the router is unable to handle the load. I was thinking of buying the Asus AC88U and one Wireless-AC 1800 Access Point to handle all the 10 users.

My question is, would this help to improve the speed? and are the settings for the Asus AC88U pretty straight forward on the Time Fibre modem?
Thanks
*
HI Bro,

1st of all you gotta make sure the incoming bandwidth is really up to your expectation.

What is your daily applications of these 10 users ? Linksys WRT1900ACS is quite a 'high performance' Router, except its penetration power is a bit low.
It can handle more than 30,000 simultaneous connections, WAN-LAN & LAN-WAN throughput are about 800Mbps & 700Mbps respectively.

Asus AC88U will have slightly higher Routing Throughput & simultaneous connections, but not much.

If these are still not up to your requirements, like mztang52 said, go for Business Routers.

PM me more details about your office applications & setup, will be able to propose you with better solutions.

Thanks.

Yup, I thought that was probably the problem, but I went through the quick setup process again a few times and made sure that the Special Requirement from ISP checkbox was unchecked.
*
Hi Bro,

Please do a hard reset on your Asus Router...upgrade to the latest firmware.

At the WAN connection type choose PPPOE.
Put in your given TIME account (username@timebb) & password.

And you are to go.

Thanks.

Bingo! I neglected to check there and it was still set to Unifi-Home. Once I set it to None, everything worked fine.

A big thank you to you and everyone here that gave their troubleshooting suggestions.  biggrin.gif

guys, just got time installed today. not very tech savvy, but is my old  DSL-2750U better than the modem 850 that they gave?
*
HI,

The given D-Link 850L is better in terms of performance, overall throughput, dual band support & features etc.

Wireless signal coverage not much difference.

Thanks.

Actually no-one is using for Netflix and Twitch. The daily application is general web browsing and probably YouTube/Spotify. Office is open-concept so no-one really watches movies.

My first assumption was the default router couldn't handle the number of connections (i.e. 10 users x 2 devices).

I have done a Speedtest and it is about 80-90% of our plan rate. So it looks alright.

I will look at starting with 1 user then slowly adding more users to see what happens. It could be a user that is torrenting, and we don't know off.  ohmy.gif
jjj2 : what's the estimate price range for Business Routers for 10-20 people setup?
Thanks all...
*
Yes, find out the root cause would be better, your existing router definitely able to cope with your environment.

Hook up some network monitoring tools to monitor the traffic, catch the one who's sneaking there.
Alternatively you could use Port Triggering feature in your Linksys Router to allow only specific ports such as 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 53, 80, 110, 143, 443, 587, 993, 995, 2525.

Small Business Routers ranging from RM5xx & above.

Do buzz me if you need more help.

Cheers smile.gif

Guys, my speed is only ranging from 5mbps-10mbps during speed test, not much difference before and after =(.. currently still using the old modem they given (huawei somehting i think) and Asus N12 router.
*
HI Bro,

Firstly do a cable connection speedtest connecting your PC to your Asus N12 Router.

If the speed is still the same as you claimed (5--10Mbps).. bypass the Router, create a dialup connection on your PC, and test it by connecting to the Huawei ONU LAN1 port directly...

Let me know if further assistance needed.

Thanks.

Hi, was one of the earlier users who had the plan upgraded to the 100mbps during the promotion.

Recently there has been a problem where during night hours my speed and ping fluctuates which affects the wifi speed. Internet use (videos/browsing, etc) is significantly slower during these times. Speed is normal during daytime.

Am wondering whether other TIME users also facing this problem? Currently using the TIME provided CISCO Linksys E1200 and a Huawei HG8240 when I installed TIME fibre a few years ago.

Thanks.
*
Hi,

During the moment that you are experiencing slowness on your wifi, please check the cable connection speed as well.

Thanks.

I see, this makes sense, though was encountering this problem only recently. Thought it was something wrong at my end as my speed can fluctuate pretty largely.

Switching to 5GHz will see the difference.

Hi Bro,

You gotta have your fibre cable concealed then only this fibre wall socket make sense, else might as well connect the fibre directly to the ONU, and do some cable management to make it look tidy.

Buzz me if more help needed.

Thanks.

When the installer/technician comes, please ensure that they count the length of fibre cable from the conduit point right outside your front door instead of from the riser. It can be from 3 to 5 metres extra, which they can otherwise charge you. I have heard some incidents from neighbours disputing with the installer as to where to count it from.

I would suggest just putting the BTU and primary router in the living room near your TV table. Pulling the fibre anywhere further to a room or study may exceed the standard provided length.

Good luck.
*
Standard way of Installation by following our Rate Card is from the Point of Entry (POE) to the ONU.

POE usually will be the point where the cable enters into the premise.

Thanks.

Hi,

Please kindly feedback your test results on several speedtest servers (locally) @ speedtest.net or speed.time.com.my
Take a mean.

1) First Test > via Router using Cat5e/Cat 6 cable

< Still Slow ?> ----IF YES, proceed to 2nd Test

2) 2nd Test > Connect your PC/Laptop using Cat5e/Cat 6 cable to LAN1 port of the ONU, create a pppoe connection on your computer, perform the test again.

< Still Slow ?> ----IF YES, proceed to file a report @ CS.

Thanks.
