Are you Douglas from the detailing clinic on Saturday?  blink.gif
*
Yes.

QUOTE(blurcase @ Mar 6 2018, 12:44 AM)
Just to clarify, Henry is Osren. During teh tarik session are we allowed to talk about other brands products?
*
Yes. Boleh. This is a private event, OSREN is loaning place to us at no cost. Which also means we run our own programmes from ground zero.
Unless you guys decide to yam char only I guess no need to use the detailing bay.
Then again, where is the fun when we don't get to share through demonstration haha!

Cool. Just wanted to clarify since its Osren place, wouldnt be nice to be raising competitor products in their premise. I am okay with either date.

A few topics I can think of demo and discussion:

1) Machine polishing techniques. Think alot of guys watch videos always see polishing done on horizontal panels like bonnet/boot, but equal challenges comes from vertical panels.

2) “Cheat sheets” in detailing. Think everyone pretty much know some of the best practices always preached by pros, but behind the scenes there are always corners we cut and it didnt kill our car.

3) Interior detailing. Probably the most underemphasized topic in detailing.

4) All the non-metal exterior detailing, example plastic trim, windshield, rims and tyres.

Just a few suggestions. Feel free to add more.
*
I like it all! I agree that demo and real life polishing may vary vastly. Especially on looking for the right "combination" prior to paintwork correction. Sometimes it takes great effort and patience to find the right combination. unlike the videos we see, apply and polish...it's not all that easy.

you call it cheat sheets, i call it industry secret. HAHA! Yes. I have a few up my sleeves too.

Inner beauty is more important than outward beauty? LOL

I can't wait to learn about the plastic trim detailing wakakaka.

But most importantly.....we need to arrange for "teh tarik" the physical drink. Don't have not complete!

water cooled motor Karcher? seems like only starting from K4 model.

Mya I know the advantages of getting a water-cooled motor? can run it longer without spoiling motor?
*
water cool or not, In my opinion (you can choose to ignore) we don't use pressure washer that long to rinse our car. Universal motor is definitely enough.
10 mins max? With pressure washer it is definitely faster and consumes less water compared to a garden hose.

To maximise lifespan of any pressure washer:
Always prime your pressure washer. Never directly turn on tap and switch on motor. You want to get rid of air bubbles in the compressor first.
1. Turn on water tab
2. Without the pressure washer switched on, release the trigger and have water from the hose flow to your nozzle/lance. The natural pressure of the water from garden hose is sufficient to do that.
3. Make sure water flows out smoothly and no longer have air exiting.
4. switch on pressure washer motor.
Air is compressible while water is not. Having air in the compressor/piston is a big no-no as it will upset the mechanism.

For longer lasting motor, there is induction motor (heavier and longer lasting) vs universal motor (carbon brush + lighter)
depending on how long you want to run the machine, if longer than 15 mins, get an induction motor.

Personally I bought an induction motor pressure washer from europahilt. You may check it out, it's an alternative from karcher which imo is a bit pricey. Europahilt uses lavor motor, which is a renown italian brand pressure washer.

Any reason why DAP8 over DAP15 when it can do much larger surface hence faster work done? Perhaps small narrow area of car body paint?
*
The dap8 is dope on super soft paint. It is just easier on dap8
Honda black is pita.

The 5 inch isn't that all friendly on tight and narrow areas, but yes, 8mm Vs 15mm, 8mm has the advantage of more control.
This is especially noticeable on 3" inch 12mm orbit Vs 3" 8mm orbit. More precision

that's why Osren brought in the 3' 8mm DA?

Deliberately designed to be so.
Think there was many prototypes before finalising on the 8mm

i guess need save-up a bit for the DA. =]
but some dirty stain like small small dot of tree sap, or maybe some tar black dot.
These do require some pressure right? ><"
Even when i used soft99 that was very abrasive - i sstll need use some force on it  bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif
*
You need the right product.

Tree sap or tar black dots = Tar removal will work.
If the tree sap as etched into the paint, pretty much need to compound or polish. I always avoid parking under/near tree. It is a safer bet.

VX1Pro long time ago...

now using Osren's, Gtechniq and OEM coating from Germany ( sold by a friend).

Osren is easy to apply but i noticed the balance coating in the bottle which i didnt use will turn into thick liquid and harden very quick. Thats why if possible to finish the whole bottle for each use.

Beading/sheeting wise is fantastic!
