Dear friend's(new friend's),

I just boungth a brand new car with metallic ligth grey colour. I intend to do my own washing n polishing the car, since i'am a pensioner n nothing to do. Most of the time the car is use to send my wife to her office ( around 15 minute fr my house) n once a while travel down to kl/melaka for visiting relative. The will be park under my balcony n mostly 70% out of the sun..

Please correct me if i'am wrong.

1) wash at the moment i'll be washing the car using waxco car shampo...washing using water pipe n the 2 bucket sistem.

2) Must i do the claying? Since it is a brand new car?

3) polishing? Waxing are two different thing, rigth? So if i just wax the car by hand is it ok, without polishing? How long agian do i need to wax the car?

I'am still confuse with what is wax n what is polish???
To me benda nie sama ajer...

Compond apa pulak? Pening2....

Anyway sorry guy krn menyusahkan u all n BIG TQ in advance to u all...anyone coming to alor setar boleh la singgah rumah saya...
*
Claying is almost necessary on a car that hasn't been clayed before. A simple test you can do is to use your bare hands/plastic and "gosok" rub against your paint. If it is rough, it is recommended to clay. (Only do this after you wash and dry your car). This is what we referred to as above surface contaminants. Claying is also necessary before polishing. New cars are sometimes store improperly and expose to elements before delivery.

Think of polishing as removing defects on paint.
Waxing is to final touch to lay a layer of protection on paint. This is done after polishing to get the best of results.

Polish = remove defects. Waxing=protect paintwork + shine

The difference between compounding and polishing is actually just level of aggressiveness. Both are removing defects but different in terms of aggressiveness.
Compound = more aggressive, polish = less aggressive

Thanks for the reply, should I get dap15, or dap8? Worried dap15 too big, hard to cover the smaller areas of the car surface?
*
both dap comes in 5 inch backing plate.
I find the dap8 finishes better than the dap15 on soft paint, and vice versa, dap15 has more cut compared to dap8.

If you are intending to upgrade and get a rotary in the future, i recommend getting the dap8 first.
If you are intending to stick to one machine, get the dap15.

Been on and off at here. Sometimes just dive and did not comment haha. But lately was busy to help out in new detailing shop. Great chance to see different cases of car and try out different stuffs smile.gif
Erm I don't think you can upload the video here. It's ok smile.gif

Yea from the vid, it looks like blue hybrid foamed wool. Maybe I can give it a try sometimes. If DA can get decent result, I assume pairing up with rotary will give you faster result then smile.gif
*
indeed indeed. I have always preferred the purple foamed wool on a rotary for cutting. Thereafter, finish off with a dual action polisher.

However results are very different.

foamed wool on dual action polisher (on medium soft paint) cuts without leaving buffer trails or holograms. On hard paint, tutup mata one step really settle.
foamed wool on rotary + interface, cuts fast but leaves buffer trails that can be easily removed with dual action.

I think earlier this year I have also read in autogeek that they are some detailers who go with purple foamed wool on dual action polisher and gotten good results.
I tried both purple and blue, somehow the blue gives better correction than the purple one. It varies from one paint to another, but on most occasions, blue was the better choice

I'm still a sucker for 2 steps paint work correction. The finishing polishing step really gives more clarity on paint.

2017 has been good.

Started off with putting more emphasis on car aesthetics, despite the fact that they're not mine but building on foundations once I got a car of my own after started working

Finally got a full set of DA, pads, solutions for compounding and polishing, pressure washer etc etc. I hope this won't be a 3 minute thing and I'll put more effort into this in 2018 smile.gif

Wax on, wax off

Wah now only he bring in... that time I wanted to buy he don't have, then I ended buying Shinemate then bought pads from him. But got feedback to him for my car the 3" is used more actually (minus bonnet, roof and trunk top la). Cause I think the newer cars, got more curves etc, thus the 3" more useful.
*
I also looking forward to it. How's the shinemate3"?
Haven't try it before

baru lepas wax kereta proton guna handrill, mula2 susah jugak...dah lepas bonet dgn pintu sebelah driver, ok la...tapi mcm u all cakap la...wax ajer...calar2 halus masih ada bila suluh dgn lampu hp...douglas...belum dpt nak try da yg i beli haritu...wax guna liquid wax kix....
*
Handrill might overheat ok prolonged usage. Heard many burn the motor many times haha. Wax should be ok. No need that much rotation. Oscillate also ok with soft pad

I like the Shinemate 3" more than my DAP8 now LOL. The speed control is continuous versus the DAP8 which is like based on clicks... and it has soft start too. But best part is, it is lighter (or feels lighter haha!). I use it for doors and bumpers... but certain areas think I need those smaller rotary 1" 2" for the really small edges, but those just use hand for now tongue.gif.
*
3 inch polisher is indeed lighter than 5 inch 8/15mm throw

Want to ask some advice.

What is the proper name/terminology for dark lines seen in the below pictures?
Washing doesn't remove it.
What should I use to remove it? Will a detailer do?

Thanks!

These are embedded stains not removable by regular car shampoo. Use a bit of dish washer if it bothers you. Dilute it and use it sparingly. Then wash again with regular shampoo. Cotton bud is your friend near the emblem.

I did use meguiars ultimate polish before applying wax, maybe my elbow power not good enough time to invest a DA polisher tongue.gif

Shinemate is pretty affordable. Quality not bad too.
Or you can visit AliExpress - mjjc store. (Quality unsure)
Or Osren brand. It's one year warranty.

My first attempt to try glass/ceramic coating. Paint prep using Wash with all purpose cleaner, Clay using Meguiars White Clay using ONR diluted as Lube, Meguairs Ultimate Polish on Yellow Rupes Pads on LHR15 Mark 2 (lightswirl), Finish with OSREN P20 on White Rupes Pads  on LHR15 Mark 2. IPA 99.7% diluted 1:1 with RO water. Glass Coat -> 30 seconds light pressure MF buff -> 5minutes later medium Pressure  buff.

Zoom in the lamp part

[attachmentid=9522874]
Applicator suede MF used to apply the coating, right after coat already sunk in water with APC, yet it still hardened.

Am I right doing the application? Please Comments and Critics sifu.
*
30 second is too quick beforing buffing?
3 mins is fine. Or stay with recommended time by manufacturer.

Coating cystalises. The cloth we use for buffing or applicator sure harden. Mf cloth I downgrade to wheels

Hi guys, is CarPro product better than Meguiars? A shop quote me RM350 for wash, clay, compound, polish and wax using CarPro while another quote me RM280 using Meguiars. By the way, is the cost reasonable? Thank you.
*
I would probably spoil market by suggesting so...

Ask for a demo on one small area?

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting a polisher for compounding and polishing job but don't know any cheap and good polisher for starters like me. I feel that getting like makita or osren DA around RM1k is quite a lot to me. I'm looking for something maybe around 300-500 only. Any recommendation?
Was thinking of getting the meguiar DA power system converter to use on my drill but wondering if my drill rpm is good enough or not.
*
Shinemate and osren dap15/dap8 cost less than RM1k. way below 1k.

Makita Po50000c (i think is geared action) has some learning curve to it, and not sure if anyone bring in it or not.

Pakai drill will overheat....and lack in correction power

N33d as Douglas mentioned, there is no rush, we are not running a business and wanna ensure proper detailing.

It took mine about 10 days to complete, last december. Still have 2 more car to go... rclxub.gif
*
Mine has been a year. Procrastinate till one year ok lol. I mean my parent's ride la. Mine also due for cleaner wax cause of the rain.

QUOTE(Derekk @ Jan 30 2018, 04:53 AM)
Meguairs gc quite pricey 😅😅 is Osren bubble&wax ok? Wat would u recommend for windscreen water repellent ?
*
I started with gc, loved it. Then try the bubble and wax, never turn back. Similar, bubble & wax produces more foam, but gc slickness is slightly nicer. Then again , I top up a bit can get 20l of bubble & wax compared to 2l of gc.

Anyone can suggest good, affordable coating for medium sedan? Saw few brands offering different prices and packages, yet all seems about the same. Not familiar with the jargon used.

My budget is less than 2k generally. Hopefully can offered some degree of protection toward stonechip as well.
*
hmm for coating, I've not heard one that protects against stone chips. For that you will need paint protection film and it is extremely costly!
Wonder if anyone here know where to get supply for paint film and wanting to diy myself too.

i'd say your budget of 2k is actually sufficient. Most importantly, look for reputable shop or quality work.

Karcher is a reputable brand.

For me I have been using the europahilt 150 for a month plus, must say no complaints so far. Still too early to tell me but claimed to be powered by lavor. Since lavor is a reputable brand, I deem it worthy.

https://facebook.com/commerce/products/1302619266500194

You can check this out. 8m means not having the need to carry your machine!
Also, you really only need 10mins top to rinse the car so I'd say carbon brush is for than sufficient.

Just prime the motor properly before using. It is the number one reason why many pressure washer don't last.

Most foam lance are put together by parts, so you only need to find the connector that fits.
AliExpress - mjjc
Local - osren

Guys, I've just done my ceramic coating from Ceramic Pro. Now I would like to ask what is a good shampoo to use for maintenance wash? I'm assuming preferably a pH neutral would be ideal?
Besides a car shampoo, are there any other additional things I should use when washing my car as well?

Thanks
*
Look up 2 bucket system washing method. You will need proper wash mitt, 2 bucket with grit guards.
Any shampoo that does not contain detergent. Most automotive shampoos are suitable and are pH neutral.
