Thank you so much for responding Doughlas.
I just bought the CarPro Iron X Snow Soap triple action for the shampoo. Cost me RM88. sad.gif

Is it necessary to even spend that much or can I get a less expensive shampoo but equally effective. Could you recommend?

Also, any advice for which product to go for my windows and rims+tires?

Can't seem to find the 2 bucket with grit guards except at Chemical Guys but they're out of stock at the moment.

for shampoo, i use osren bubble and wax. Although it states wax, but we all know in the market there is no such thing as "wax" in shampoos. And by wax, i mean lipids and actual by-petroleum products.

For rims, i don't do anything thing to it. I use degreaser on the wells and regular shampoo to wash on metal chrome parts.
For tyres, I like endurance by meguiars. super long lasting. and doesn't require that much of a product.

for windows, external : shampoo! Internal, i use osren window cleaner with their window glass towel. 4l is about RM42 before gst. Seriously can even spray your whole house windows

the only thing i like about carpro: carpro essence and carpro reload! but of late, they have been very expensive

Always buy rims with less spokes and larger opening. Big enough for hand to go in with wash mitt.

Settle. No splash, less time consuming.

Some nice. But clean that time you cry. I remember seeing Larry using steamer to clean this kind of rims.

I no steamer. And prefer bigger openings.

Speaking of wheels, when I'm lazy I'll just clean with brake dust cleaner + power wash. Surface of it I'll use my dedicated wash mitt to clean the visible front part with my left over shampoo from my 2 buckets.

Save even more time

i never find those "brake dust cleaner" works with me.... first glance after PW... wow its clean... but closer look its not that really clean

I find that not all brake dust cleaner or ironx are the same. Some does not contain cleaners while some does.

The one I'm using is from osren and does contain some cleaner on it. 2 mins best, any longer the dirt will not come out somehow

Welcome back to detailing! LOL

The smell cannot run. Ammonia smell. I use other brands also like that. Like rotten egg smell.
I don't use ironx or similar chemicals on paint as well. Cause it's an oversell imo. Polishing will remove most of those anyway.

You got notice the tarx got turn a bit light greenish? Carpro claims that it will but i use also tak tukar warna.

Tell me about it! cry.gif

Same thing happened to me, finished washing 2 cars (2 hours)...then all of the sudden, comes the rain.....I havent washed my car last 3 weeks, just too much traveling ver the weekends...felt really guilty...hence waited 15 mins for the downpour to slowdown, and then washed on heavy drizzle, while getting myself washed as well
*
Ok la, life and responsibilities come first.
I'm guilty of spraying water on my car to remove bird poo and didn't even bother to clean or dry it.

Rather get waterspots than etching from bird poo.

Usually if I have time, after rain (assuming I just finish washing my car) I will just hose it down again and use onr to perform rinseless wash.

Anyone staying in a condo with no facility for car wash but still manage to wash the car by ownself? Other than bucket what tools do you use especially to carry the water? Too bad malaysia doesnt have those self service car wash center..
*
Most condo excludes a bay for washing cars. I suppose you may fill your bucket there?

Ways i can think of to lessen your burden is to use multiple wash mitts. You can practice one bucket wash.

Get 10 wash mitts, preferably dual sided. split panel into half, one half = one side wash mitt.

After each panel, discard the wash mitt into another empty bucket and proceed to get a fresh one from the fresh bucket and proceed to next panel.
More work on cleaning the mitt later on, but will significantly reduce the time needed to wash car plus you dont have to carry heavy pails around.

You will still need to rinse before and after washing.Hope this helps

Done claying + wax with fusso 12 month, deep wash rim with osren degrease and follow by osren tyre dressing , guys is any claybar more aggresive? Because i found osren clay bar cant remove some small tiny dot , or maybe need do some polishing to remove it??
The result is stil good after a year of taking care , 6 month top up fusso coat once , so it mean my car is time to sending for servicing too haha , next year only re-polish whole car
*
What color is your claybar? Green?

Clay is meant to remove above surface. Below imsurface will require polishing. As long as the surface is smoonth upon touch, it is ready for polishing.

Thank both sifu , u two really teach me alot !!! Always keep in my mind what both of u guide me , that the reason the good stil look great hehe
I wanna collect more scratch and dot , next year polish whole car , because i thinking polish every 6 month seen overkill with machine , sifu blurcase i do use tiny dot of polish and mf, but some of spot become more clean and some spot look more dirt zzzzz, end up i just forgot about it and continue to wax whole car

Slk , i dont have any AIO at the moment , maybe after i finish up ultimate polish only i try hunt for AIO , but i think hardly to finish the UP if i repolish every 1 or 2 year , i do try polish with mf small spot , susprisely it extreme clean at the spot only, lucky i try at lower part haha
*
I polish at least 3 times per year, usually more. No issue one...clear coat not made of taufu.

Either with an aio to clean paintwork up or with a mild polish to correct some swirls from washing. Usually 3 months once I will aio when it becomes dull

Wah! 3 times a year! When I think about the prep work just to do 1 time also the brain already thinking too much work, lol.

But it is true that clearcoat isnt as soft or thin or fragile as many may think. If not mistaken I remember the guy from Forensics Detailing Channel in youtube got mention before that he measured per polish only removes 0.01 micron of clearcoat, so it is generally safe.

Axia original paint can sand down with 1500 grit 4 times/cycle before bocor...

I somehow like my car shiny and my dogs healthy (wtf)

Claying is fast, only horizontal panels that would need more attention since dirt sits on it.

Aio is fast. And I want to maximise my machine so buy Dee use only lol

I don't recommend soft99, aggressive gila imo

My car color is Lunar Silver (Honda's Silver)... I noticed swirls on my boot when viewed under street light (yellow light) but when I use my phone LED... can't see the swirls... why is it like this? I thought LED should be able to view better?

Watch the video:

Spot light vs flood light

temperature (light frequency) yellowish vs whitish

They reveal different depths of imperfection when the light frequency bounces back to our eyes

Fun facts on lighting when it comes to detailing:

1) The "safest" temperature to go with for detailing inspection is 4500k and 6500k. Scangrip uses this 2 temperatures to promote the so-called "cri+". Basically what it means is that the range of most automotive colors are from r1-r15 and these are the best temperature to go with to check on defects.

2) To tell if a detailing shop is good or bad i look at their lightings. If there is no yellowish (4500k) spot lights, and only fluorescence is present, tau la tu.

3) Street lights (yellowish type, not the latest white led kind) are the best kind of light to inspect your finish. LOL

Watched the video, understand the differences between spot light and flood light now, when to use it  nod.gif

But for my case its comparing between my phone LED (I think is "white") versus street lamp (yellow), so that is due to intensity or was it more on the color temperature?
The street light I refer to looks very yellow to me though, I think about 3000K type compared to 4200K of the warm white. What sort of torchlight are you using? Maybe I should grab a better torch... more powerful one that my phone's LED.
Street light, the old ones with bulb type... is 4200K? But 4200K appears white right.. while the street light is much warmer...
*
4200k quite yellowish.
higher temperature is whiter.

Hi guys, cny has passed and i think it is about time we should move forward with the "teh tarik" session.

I have managed to convince Henry to allow us to use some space in his detailing hall to support the almost forgotten community in low yat forum. LOL. So good news! He agreed to let us use his hall, tools, products, bonnets and product for our sharing/teh tarik session.

We won't be restricted in whatsoever way except the time agreed upon. We are free to do whatever we like during the allocated time slot. (of course keeping everything in tact)

I suggest we use this opportunity to share our knowledge, especially forumites that are keen in detailing or wanting to discover different ideas.

here are some details we can run during the session:

Topics on: Washing tricks and tips, polishing with da/rotary, troubleshoot tryouts, testing of various products.

depending on who would be keen in joining, we will plan on the topics as we progress. So if most attending would like to know more about polishing techniques or to even try out, we will focus on that. Alternatively, feel free to suggest on what subject should be covered. Everyone can share.

We will also have to decide a time and date. I suggest :

24th of March 2018 (sat) or 7th of April 22018 (sat)

Let me know what you guys think
