Budget:2500 MYR (CPU only)
Usage: light gaming, cloud computing, MS office and visio for system design, HD movie.
Prefer Xeon or Skylake I5, At least 8GB Ram, SSD.

Reuse: Chassis, Hard Disk.

*Must be reliable, no sudden downtime.

is it possible to build a mini-itx pc for RM1000 (just the machine, no monitor etc)?
hdd also not needed as i have an extra unit laying around
it's just for basic usage like internet browsing & movies.
Intel or AMD build would be fine.

my understanding is most comes without usb 3
how much is a usb3 pci card?
mobo with built in usb3 how much?

I don't think it is still $99 now, it was $99 last time on Newegg but that was quite a while ago already.

System 100% up time is hard to guarantee.

2nd gen intel i3/5 cpu

i recently got bought 3 PC from etech for my friend, 2 of them where basic office PC,
i suggested for last gen system as its cheaper socket 1150 mobo, they will most probably not need to upgrade cpu to i3/i5 in the near future, if in case they do it will probably be in 3-5 years time, by then socket 1151 mobo (current gen) will also be obsolete
we can find 2nd hand cpu haswell socket 1150 cpu for cheap in the next few years too.

I opted to get the slightly more expensive mobo
ASROCK H81M HDS RM220
as it has 3 display types, HDMI, DVI and d-sub. (for dual display)
also it has USB3 internal connection to case. If your case has front USB3 you can use it.
It does have 2x USB3 back connections already.

if you dont need the above feature the the normal
ASROCK H81M mobo only cost RM195 save RM25.
get the cheapest 4gb ddr3 from them, i opted the nicer looking one with heat sink

Use the money you already save from mobo/cpu and ram and get an SSD it will feel very fast, its worth it trust me.
And you dont really need 8gb ram
4gb ram + SSD page file is plenty.

you can possible diy or buy 5.25" caddy. there are planty of room in the case.

Suggested 4th gen i3 so I can fit GTX950 with minimal over budget, you should be grateful if latest games can run well on this rig, don't put so high hope on getting good frame rate on med or high settings.

4GB vs 8GB, the price difference is too small, I suggest you opt for 8GB instead.

Cheap mITX case normally comes with 2 or 3 3.5" HDD bays only, swap to mATX for more HDD bays.

If you want new set then it is very hard to find leftover parts of LGA1155 since it is long obsoleted.

One problem with this build is the Core i5-6400.

Unlike the 4th generation Core i5 where even the 4460 has a base clock of some 3.2Ghz, the i5-6400 has a base clock of only 2.7Ghz

Even the lowly Core i3-6100 has a base clock of 3.7Ghz so in that sense I'd rather put my money on the Core i3-6100 than the Core i5-6400.
