May I know how much it cost to build a decent rig using GTX 1070 now?
Planning to build one but a lot of people advise it's better to on hold 1st...
Is it worth the price paying more a bit for GTX 1070 instead of the cheaper a bit one GTX 1060?

It depends on your usage, gaming resolution and the settings you aim to play.

The cheapest combo (lowest end i5 + cheapest GTX1070, 8GB RAM, no SSD, no OS included) requires at least 3.5k+.

If you want a decent one with i7 CPU to prevent any sort of bottlenecking then you gonna prepare at least 4k+.

For a complete rig with 120GB/240GB SSD, decent mobo & PSU & case, 16GB RAM etc, you need to have at least 5k+.

GTX1070 is Titan X/980Ti's level, while GTX1060 is said to have GTX980's performance (according to Nvidia, please wait for review next week)

If you are gaming on 1080p60 and can accept almost max settings (80% of the graphics settings turned on), then GTX1060 should be enough.

GTX1070 focuses more on 1440p60 gaming, but if you are running a 1080p 144Hz monitor then GTX1070 is just barely "enough" to push those high frame rates on 1080p unless you own a GSync monitor at which the frame rate doesn't really matter in this case due to the support of variable frame rate from GSync module.

If you need pivot support like what I do then you gonna go for U2414H (or its successor U2417H), it should be the cheapest premium IPS + ultra thin monitor that supports pivoting nowadays.

Portrait mode is very useful if you are running multi-monitors setup and have limited amount of space, you can get a longer view of web pages as well, just like QHD/UHD screen.

If RM 300 isn't too much for you then I will recommend U2414H over other monitors, I have one and it served me very well and I even upgraded to its successor U2417H to show my support to Dell UltraSharp series  biggrin.gif
*
Got it, in that case I guess will wait till U2414H.
My preference is the U2515H, but my rig is put on hold as I do not have the time to game while waiting for GTX1060 to come in and both GTX1060/RX480 to stabilize. If GTX1070 drops later on, then I will most likely go for that and invest in U2515H for QHD gaming. If I go for RX480/GTX1060 route, then I'll game with the U2414H biggrin.gif.

Sandy Bridge is long obsoleted, only used unit is available and you will need to hunt for it yourself in Garage Sales section.

Leftover Haswell stock is still available locally, but the price is almost similar with Skylake so there is no reason to pick it over Skylake already.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 473
Asus H110M-K - RM 273
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 130

Total: RM 876

Intel Core i3 4170 - RM 473
Asus H81M-K - RM 240
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 145

Total: RM 858

Price from ETech Kepong.

thanks for the quotation.
searched garage sales for used mobo cpu...saw some good offer for used sandy bridge chipset.

but still unsure on which choice is the better. old chipset with higher performance proc or latest chipset with low end proc.

Depends on which Sandy Bridge CPU model you are going to get, if i5 2500 then you better get the new i3 6100, big improvements if you are coming from Sandy Bridge to Skylake, even the i3 is a dual core CPU.

If it is an i7 2600 then it will be a different story, all depends on the price of the items.

Hi guys. I did ask for recommendation in April on my gaming rig and got it from terence_nwb. Thanks
Finally I am buying it by end of this month after months of delay. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

So checking with you peeps, are there any updates as in better parts than the ones recommended and still stay within the budget of 2.5k for cpu?

I agree i5-2500 vs i3-6100 the i3-6100 wins on performance, but i sure the 2nd hand i5 is cheaper.
Sandy i5 vs i3-6100 is a close call re performance

You can drop the SSD and get the Zotac GTX970 at RM 999 only (promo price) if you want, otherwise you can stick with this build since no new hardware comes out within the price range of the the listed items.

Well it is hard to max out your budget, this specs is overkill for CS.

You can swap to an overclockable build (i7 6700K + Z170 + high speed RAM) or get a PCIe SSD (Samsung 950 Pro M.2) to max out your budget.

Yes, but usually they need 1 day time to assemble the parts for you.
