Antenna MR77.
I am a novice. Would like to know if a Handheld radio plug with this antenna would it boost the signal range further? (For car convoy, road trip purpose)

Is the antenna available in Malaysia? Thanks for the feedback.

Yes it would, MR77 are good antenna. Definately boost your reception and transmission well. Very strong magnet too and it is sold in almost all radio shops in msia.

Yaesu 8900 also a good radio, only thing I think it needs are lighted buttons for night use but then I dont really adjust much when driving. If you have the option, go get the 8800 instead. 8900 extra HF have not much use. Another thing about the 8900 is that the memory is shared by both radios, 8800 have separated memory. 8800 also slightly cheaper.

Mliven, you will need some kind of adapter to connect this to your handheld radio as most handhelds comes with BNC or SMA connector. Otherwise the antenna is mighty fine mounted on a car.

This antenna is 1/4wave on 2m and halfwave on 440.

Thanks for the tip.
I found one adapter (SMAJ-SMAJ) so called the name according to the seller from taobao.com
That is the SMA female > SMA female. suit for my handheld radio...waiting for that to deliver.

Hi Hoo

I usualy get my radio stuff from my friend's shop which is in puchong. If u want i can give u his contact number.

Btw i just bought Kenwood TM-271A..the audio quality is superb and to do setting for the rig is not that hard..the manual is always there hehehe..only thing is the DTMF mic is a bit bulky compared to icom or yaesu..other than that is fine for a beginner like me..
