Only buy HF sets after im working (now still a student). So far i have a dual-band handie and single band mobile rig (used at base) with homebrew antenna. Maybe later upgrade better atennna. CrazyGhost, which channel do ur qso/monitoring? im usually (monitoring) on v33, sometimes v52 n v69

Best is to tap direct to battery. If got extra bucks then improve the grounding system.. I personally avoid leaving the radio on while starting the engine.. Just in case any spikes make its way into the radio..

i dont have any mobile station yet, but i think the best practice is to tap directly from battery.

The best to power up your mobile rig is by tapping it directly from the battery. But .. do remember to ground your rig's body to the chasis too. I'm having a problem with my mobile rig interfering with my carpc and currently experimenting a way to reduce this interference and found a website that could shed some light on mobile rig installation:
