because there's nothing here that i can and want to do, i conclude that there's nothing here for any other malaysians too."

err, sit on the grass?

hell thats what people do in parks anyway, you want proper sharing and seats go to a mall
*
hah, when i read seats in park immediately i think of Forest Gump. it's nice to have seats in the park, but anywhere outside KLCC, it will be vandalized.

another problem with parks is we have many strays, so many shits on the grass, it's another problem though.

Singapore have stray cats, but shit on grass seems an uncommon problem.

most of wht TS say is quite true.

the root cause is simply poor Town Planning

our government be it federal or state, through their incompetent planning causes our leisure & entertainment facilities be neglected in lieu of capitalism

this capitalism oriented policy-makers favour industrial, housing & retail for development thus causes our people to not have alternative avenues & activities to enjoy. too bad that even our free nature activities are often rifed with license holders jacking up prices. then our government turn a blind eye to forest clear

nobody addresses the issue among our policy-makers, nobody takes proactive action. nobody thinks long-term beyond 10 to 20 years.
we can only be proud of Putrajaya when all the other parts of the country becomes a concrete shithole.

nothing is optimum in our development, so those who can affect change, pls do so for our future well being & generations to come.
*
you nailed it! many in Msia dont have the exposure of these amenities and its availability in general for public that could be provided to general public as part of town planning. Even our parks here are getting smaller and smaller with no fields like we use to have 20 years ago

i've listed enough wide range of examples of activities that are hard to access, if you pandai why not recommend us some? no need KL, if you are from JB or Penang or Melaka or other places can also.

inb4 jogging & trekking.
*
i spend my weekends trekking and joining marathons ('general sports', as you say), going to parties or movies and meals with friends, sometimes i read, sometimes i paint, or i participate in the activities of clubs and associations i join (you'd say these were 'closed groups').

if you choose a less-active life, its your prerogative but dont make excuses for it.

unless the steak is cooked, cut to bite size pieces and fed to TS without him having to lift a finger, all suggestions given is shit.

on one hand, complain that malaysia apa pun tak ada, gomen tak provide, then on the other hand, we have rakyat like ts that keep comparing malaysia with other country when he himself didn't even try to do anything.

if there's a will, there's a way.

Plus, how many of us Malaysians actually do sunbath? I go under the sun at the beach and people all think I'm nuts.  doh.gif

do you mean there's a beach where there's no sun during daytime in Malaysia?

I dunno about sunbath, but seems those tanmachine are getting common here in, Shopping Malls lel. but still people here prefer fairladies, Ganguro is not a culture here yet.

to be fair tho, outside KLCC some of teh parts are quite good and well maintained, the one at tasik pemaisuri is as good as i can remember it to be and that place has been around forever.

never had real issues with shit, I'm sure there are a few around but not that bad as neighbourhoods cause people just tend to bring their dogs all over the place

1st post 1st sentence:"Anyone think in Malaysia unless you work near special areas like Diving site o beach there's a lack of special activities?"

no need you pandai recommend me move to KK, if i work or live near there i wouldn't think it's far to get to the beach.

anyway Gold Coast is close to the big cities, itself is quite a small city already. Less than 1 hour drive can reach. and it's just one of the many beaches.

but Malaysia even though so many place is along the seaside, you need to drive few hours to get to a proper beach. don't tell me because people discourage swimming in swimsuits & bikinis.

Aiya you tldr and you're basically just giving tons of excuses.

Bottom line is, you have plenty of excuses.

Anyone think in Malaysia unless you work near special areas like Diving site o beach there's a lack of special activities?

Most activities available during weekends usually Shopping, Cinema, Golf, Themeparks, Casino, General Sports, Food & Drink I think sums it up. These are generally General activities for the whole family, but not for you.

Since Malaysia is hot weather country i'm not expecting snow boarding/skiing on Mt. Kinabalu, but still got many other things not involving snow.

For example many countries like US/Aus/Japan has lots of race tracks for weekend drivers to fulfill their adrenaline needs, they just need to drive next town, here there's only Pasir Gudang & Sepang + some no name circuit where people rarely organize anything for public, so car clubs have to use public roads to organize events. If race tracks are too expensive, you rarely see any Go-Karts no more, there used to be some but seems either they charged too expensive or typical Malaysians just not interested but in many countries they are affordable you can even buy your own karts. If a Gokart circuit is still too expensive, can always ride dirt bikes in the Forests.

Beaches, Malaysia full of beaches, yet there's only a handful of beaches that actually suits beach activities like Penang & Sabah/Sarawak, places like JB has a good beach location yet it's designed for Look Sea only and the closest beach Johoreans have is Sentosa beach. In US almost any states along the seaside will have a proper beach for outdoor activities, malaysia have to pay & go to Sunway Lagoon or Desa Water Park...

Fishing, fishing ponds near non-existence now, used to be a cheap & peaceful way to pass time. now you have to drive to Kuala Selangor or somewhere remote, or be hardcore & rent a boat and go into the swamp areas, still possible but need to be hardcore enthusiasts.

Cycling, a very common  sports, but cycle lane is no where to be seen here. There's no place dedicated for cyclists like Singapore has. Even Langkawi which hosts Tour de Langkawi don't really have much cycling activity when there's no Tour de Langkawi.

Then we don't need to talk about other more expensive stuffs like yatching, horse riding, water jet packing, you may be able to find them in Penang & tourist hotspots which is 500km away..

these just few examples. even though some exists, they don't last long due to lack of support from locals, lack of tourism in major parts of Malaysia, and expensive price that people rather do the same thing over & over like shopping. but not bored meh? weekend even you have car also don't know where to drive to, drive all the way to Genting/Kuala Selangor also just to eat/gamble, drive to Seremban nothing to do, down to Melaka also eat only since most tourist place you usually go 1 or 2 times at most, even up to Penang, just Gurney Drive & eat & go to temple. even temple malaysia only got so many to visit. they should really make unique Mosques so it can become a tourist attraction like how people keep visiting temples after temples in China & Japan.

I think Putrajaya actually has lots of potential to become the weekend escape for KL people. It has the land, road & facilities to support, well until one day Putrajaya becomes overcrowded. Even if there's already one, most people probably never heard about it just like other White elephants.

But I'm guessing Malaysians so used to the hot weather they couldn't be bothered doing outdoor activities. But why is Sinkie different?

The problem is when something new comes up, they always ask for skyhigh price, it becomes not-so affordable and less people go, they lose money, close shop and people call it a day for that type of activity because they see how previous business tried & failed.

well sometimes when msians say its too far , it becomes very absurd, i.e. go oversea walk 30 min ok, in msia no ok.  laugh.gif

generally msians dont like eating out in the open, let alone parks, when was teh last time you saw anyone sitting on a bench in the mall eating something? its quite a rare sight, most of us hunt for tables even if theres none.

singaporeans dont really eat at the park, the main difference if you ask me is because their parks are very near to a lot of offices wherelse for msian parks, most of them are far away from the offices with exception of KLCC. so you do get one or two that like the outdoors, sit there.

if you go out of sg CBD, i dont remember seeing anyone eating outside like msians do, most is just void deck
*
so you already acknowledge malaysia lacks parks near offices while singapore do.

you missed out the point many Singapore youngsters like to eat outside, usually college & university students. because they are so fedup with indoors & malls. also they study very stress, need sit on grass to relax.

which brings me a question, students in local uni with proper campus with lots of park & grass & trees, is it common for them to eat there or even sit there maybe not afternnon but do they even do so during evenings? coz you see American soap operas students always sit under the sun in campus.

already mentioned in the Clubs organizing events in public road.

you rarely see road racers endangering other road users in countries where people can race in circuits on weekends. they do still race in public road but they pay more attention to other road users.

Closed loop and requiring exclusivity? hmm.gif No.
I basically just walk in or find it on website and fill in everything.

If you are the type of guy who goes out a lot and join a lot of those you called "general activities such as: hiking, marathon, cycling etc..." you will heard of this places. Usually marathon runners do also goes on hiking and cycling very often.

I've came across the boot camp training when I was participating the zombie run a few years back.
Circuit racing, sepang, basically most of the Malaysian knows that.

Obstacle race in sepang, very new, just open recently, and they even advertise it on sepang circuit, but since we are bunch of adrenaline junkie, new game such as this will not get off our eyes easily (FYI http://tadombase.com/)

SSA (Selangor shooting association), is quite well known in Subang area, people just don't bother to enter it because they tot that it is exclusive for members only (which is not, you can always try to walk in and ask for registration form, of course with referral is better).

But of course lah, if stay at home most of the time, not surprise what also dont know or dont have access of sweat.gif

Availability to general public? have you even travel to one of those places before?
If you think Snowboard and Skii (or any winter sports) are easily access to them (lets say Korea, or Japan), think again, they have to travel hours to the nearest Skii Resort and most of them don't even know the exact location of it unless they source for it. In europe, most city pees have to travel or flight hundred of miles just to have access to their nearest skii resort. *If you need to know, I travel to overseas for extreme sports for at least twice per year, including snowboarding, skydiving, surfing etc*

exactly like how i said it, like the 5th times in this thread.

but going the there's a will, there's a way is not really what this discussion is about... if you actually read it.

you want something that can attract general public into the interest without asking them to have a will to have a way if you want an interest to grow, like, say, shopping malls.
