Big congrats! This event does bring a lot of excitement and a bit of anxiety together.. :)

I am a dad to a two year old. My wife is now pregnant with our second child. During the first pregnancy, we also felt that there appeared to be a lot of things to learn and do. As MoonRider suggested, talking to your gynecologist will help a lot. Raise any concerns about the current food that you have. From our experience, my wife avoided all un-cooked food like sashimi and some sushi. There are good guide websites that has good information, like governments or food authorities. The following has been very useful for us:
NSW Food Authority

For supplement, my wife has used and is using Elevit.

Hi guys,

Hope you are all well.

I decided to post here after recently reading and posting in a thread about planning to conceive baby boys.

All praise to the Lord of the worlds; I am a very fortunate father of three girls, my most recent is three months old actually.

I think it's only natural that parents would love to have babies/kids of both genders. And after three girls...I'd really love a baby boy.

I know I can plan ALL I want but if God still grants me a girl I am still thankful.

So I'd like to pose the question to you fathers out there. Do you have any tips on 'planning' for a boy?

By the way, this is what I posted in the thread on planning to conceive baby boys under the general parenting forum on lowyat:

Is there a way to plan for a baby boy?

I'm asking because, I am a father of 3 girls, my most recent is 3 months old. I love them dearly, and I guess it is natural for any parent to have babies of both genders if God permits.

I've heard some old-wives tales, which could be true actually because my brother in-law apparently tried it and it worked! Haha! It has to do mainly with the position during and after intercourse. Something to do with lying down on your left or right side after intercourse. Thing is, it doesn't go into detail as to 'how' positioning effects the gender of the baby. So for now, I am not too convinced.

Also from the science point of view (which makes more sense), I think mainly on timing of intercourse i.e. to wait until the wife is ovulating because of the life expectancy of female and male sperm cells. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I've read and heard from a few people:

The male sperms actually swims faster than their female sperm counterparts but the female sperms have a longer life expectancy compared to the male sperm.

So if a couple were to have intercourse prior to ovulation the female sperm will outlive the male sperm and hence eventually fertilize the egg and you get baby girls.

On the other hand if you time it right so that you have intercourse while you are ovulating the male sperm cells which swim faster will get to the eggs and fertilize them first and you get baby boys.

Diet-wise, I've heard some things on keeping the female's reproductive area as alkaline as possible to ensure the sperm stays alive longer.

Anyway, this is based on very little knowledge and just some reading I did when we were planning on our third baby, thankfully she is healthy.

I'd love a boy too though!

Looking forward to read comments on this.

there is probably nothing you can really do to increase your likelyhood of a boy. just keep conceiving. its 50:50. thats all.

That is what I thought as well initially but there are some science based facts which could help in planning.

But I agree, at the end of the day it is 50:50, God is the ultimate decider.

2 boys here and my bro also 1 boy.

I have two friends, elder sister 3 boys, younger sister 2 girls.

Personally I think just accept whatever that were given to you. The gender does not matter nowadays. Who knows if your daughter managed to land a millionaire son in-law for you. Hehehehe...

some families are prone to boys, some prone to girls. no such method and i would hardly believe any science behind increasing the chances unless it was down to genetically messing around with stuff. my cousins family wanted a girl. in the end 6 boys and one girl. sleep.gif i dont think many will be trying so hard like that hahahah.

How did you guys handle baby keep waking up at middle of the night? My dotter wake up every 1-2 hours and need her mom breastfeed her as well as rocking her sleep again.

It been happen since 8 month year old until now (12 years old). I hope to help my wife overcome this issue cos I always outstation.
My wife has given her very best efforts to make baby sleep but seem all method not working.

My last resort is to get baby consultant.

breast milk will get digested much faster so baby easy to be hungry. if its a real issue, can try use formula milk before sleep.

then no choice loh hahah.

if BF, then kid confirm keep waking up due to being hungry. just supplement the formula for the meal at around midnight, then at least can get few hours straight sleep. only 1 time ma. haha. then later 4-5am can do breastfeeding again.

he mentioned he is always outstation. so that makes it hard to work in shifts or help her out other than moral support. kesian the mum. sure going to be grumpy and on edge as keep waking up every hour or so... (which i think is a military torture method sleep.gif) hope she can cope through all of that.
