Stock market discussion in this thread, as well as those of others in this sub-forum, looks pretty dead. Is it an indication of the whole economy? Why are nobody buying stocks and getting excited anymore?

Why are nobody buying stocks and getting excited anymore? Yup felt the same too. Think many people shy away from stocks now, as economy is not favorable |

Negotiations of the USA and China are postponed. Perhaps even do not take place. This puts pressure on the Chinese market. Therefore, I definitely bear on the HSI index.

Guys - I'm a super noob when it comes to stock markets and I have a question, wonder if you guys can help.
I am just getting started with investing in stocks and I'm trying to learn the processes and procedures etc of trading stocks in Malaysia. I recently bought some Maybank shares on Bursa and today I got a letter for the dividend. Together with the letter was also a notice of the AGM - and I thought that since I have no experience, maybe I should just go to the AGM and see what happens to get a feel for it. But in that AGM notice, it says: Only members whose names appear on the Record of Depositors as at 29 March 2019 shall be eligible to attend the AGM or appoint proxy/ies to attend and vote on his/her behalf. How do I check whether or not I'm in the "Record of Depositors"? If I own the shares as of 29 March 2019, does it mean I'm automatically in the "Record of Depositors"? |

QUOTE(DeniseLau @ Mar 16 2019, 01:11 AM) Guys - I'm a super noob when it comes to stock markets and I have a question, wonder if you guys can help. As long as you still hold the stock before 29 March 2019 5:30pm means you are in. It's like a cut off date aka like an ex dividend date. Let's say AGM is 7 April. The administration team needs to generate a listing of all the shareholders but the shares are still being traded on 6 April. It is impossible for them to prepare in 1 day gap. So they set a cut off date usually 7 days before the AGM date. This means even if you sold your stock before the AGM but after 29 March 2019, you can still attend. Have fun at the AGM! |
