QUOTE(DeniseLau @ Mar 16 2019, 01:11 AM) Guys - I'm a super noob when it comes to stock markets and I have a question, wonder if you guys can help. As long as you still hold the stock before 29 March 2019 5:30pm means you are in. It's like a cut off date aka like an ex dividend date. I am just getting started with investing in stocks and I'm trying to learn the processes and procedures etc of trading stocks in Malaysia. I recently bought some Maybank shares on Bursa and today I got a letter for the dividend. Together with the letter was also a notice of the AGM - and I thought that since I have no experience, maybe I should just go to the AGM and see what happens to get a feel for it. But in that AGM notice, it says: Only members whose names appear on the Record of Depositors as at 29 March 2019 shall be eligible to attend the AGM or appoint proxy/ies to attend and vote on his/her behalf. How do I check whether or not I'm in the "Record of Depositors"? If I own the shares as of 29 March 2019, does it mean I'm automatically in the "Record of Depositors"? Let's say AGM is 7 April. The administration team needs to generate a listing of all the shareholders but the shares are still being traded on 6 April. It is impossible for them to prepare in 1 day gap. So they set a cut off date usually 7 days before the AGM date. This means even if you sold your stock before the AGM but after 29 March 2019, you can still attend. Have fun at the AGM! |

QUOTE(ZeaXG @ Mar 27 2019, 09:56 AM) Hi everyone. I have a question for which answer I can't seem to find online. Major shareholder decides. When they take it private, usually the major shareholder will already have more than 75% of total shareholdings. They then propose to buy the remainder at a determined price. Small shareholders of the stock will have their shares bought over by the major shareholder and compensated. This amount will be credited to their respective bank accounts like a dividend. If a Malaysian listed company is privatised, do I have the choice of not taking up the privatisation offer and just conitnue holding the shares of the private company? However the case can be more complex than it is. An example of a public company that went private is OLDTOWN. You can look at the comments at https://klse.i3investor.com/m/stock/overview/5201.jsp |

QUOTE(Alone @ Apr 18 2019, 10:27 PM) Hi every sifus here You sound really inexperienced. Short term trades are not for people with small capital. One transaction alone can incur high fees that will eat up whatever profit you earned in that short duration of time.I'm planning on trading Asian stocks. But first I need to do my research, so I'm looking for some info to help me narrow down on where I need to look because..... Asia is dam big. lol Which Asian country's stocks is volatile enough so I can do short term trades? Is there a stock database for me to look for a specific company's info? Which broker should I consider? If you can let me know this, then I can start researching. Thank you!! Maybe you can start with Malaysian stocks first. Penny stocks are extremely volatile with many people speculating hoping to 'goreng' it to earn a profit. |

QUOTE(Alone @ Apr 19 2019, 09:52 AM) Malaysian stocks are too calm for me, since I have traded US stocks before, and I am spoiled for volatility. What's your definition of volatility? Penny stocks are volatile. A RM0.20 stock increase to RM0.21 is a 5% increase. Contrast this with stock worth RM10 which increase to RM10.01. which is a 0.1% increase.I'm saying since you like speculating and short term, you can start using Malaysian penny stocks like IRIS. Alternatively, you can invest in indexes that try to profit from volatility like VIX. |

QUOTE(Alone @ Apr 19 2019, 11:52 PM) yeah... well chicken and egg basically, low volatility can also be manipulated to make a lot of people lose a lot of money if they short, so they don't allow shorting. More like the government don't want people to short because it will depress the market further. Even if shorting is allowed, it's for day only.I wonder how's those 280 stocks that was allowed to be shorted are doing... |

QUOTE(eddie2020 @ May 6 2019, 05:48 PM) I don't understand what you're referring to. Are you referring to suspension from trading or delisting?Suspension is due to material information being released. The stock exchange wants to give time for investors to make proper decision before buying or trading i.e. Analysts need time to perform calculations for decision making. Delisting is taking it off the stock market. It not necessarily means bankrupt. Delisting can also mean privatisation. |

QUOTE(eddie2020 @ May 8 2019, 04:23 PM) i mean are we able to know before they going to be suspended or delisted soon? Suspension and delisting is 2 different thing.Btw, if company delisted our stock mean will be total lost rite? Suspension is usually material announcement, share price hits limit up/down etc. Delisting in simple terms is to cease from being on Malaysian stock market (cannot be traded). There are a few criterias that public companies have to meet in order to remain listed (research your own). If delisted because not making money, then total loss. Usually it will be taken private. But if a company is taken private when it's profitable, then the majority shareholder will buy the remaining shares from other minority shareholders at a price. QUOTE(eddie2020 @ May 8 2019, 04:23 PM) Aside from that, wanna ask abit on dividend. Take IGB REIT dividend statement for example:For example Entitlement Details: Third Income Distribution of 2.58 sen per unit (of which 2.08 sen per unitis taxable, 0.47 sen per unit is non-taxable and 0.03 sen per unit is taxexempt) for the third quarter ended 31 March 2019. We will receive 2.58cent per share? Or they will give only 0.5cent(0.47+0.03)? Abit confused, i am new with this kinda stuff.. Some company declare dividend i didnt see they put these taxable etc, but some have... so i feel confused Taxable income: RM5,073.60 Malaysian Tax Withheld: RM507.36 Non-taxable income/Non-deductible expenses: RM169.12 Net payable: RM4,735.36 The net dividend credited to the investor's bank is RM4,735.36 (Taxable income - Malaysian Tax Withheld + Non-taxable income/Non-deductible expenses) EDIT: I just checked IGB REIT's announcement and noticed there was no mention of withholding tax. So I cannot draw a conclusion on SUNREIT. EDIT2: Cherroy is correct. This post has been edited by Yggdrasil: May 8 2019, 08:47 PM |

QUOTE(taufu @ Jun 3 2019, 11:17 AM) hi all, if there's an announcement to issue bonus share: 2 units for every 100 owned. Not sure but 1 unit of a stock is so negligible that you shouldn't even be asking unless it's a stock like NESTLE.How would it be when I'm having odd lots? for example, i owning 1080 units, by calculation it is 21.6 units, would they deposit 21 units or 22 units? |

QUOTE(taufu @ Jun 7 2019, 08:51 PM) Thanks, just dont like to see my portfolio having some odd lots remain unsold and stays there forever so trying to make up to round figure. If I'm not mistaken, you pay around RM5 more for an odd lot transaction but usually the brokerage firm will advice you to transact together with non-odd lots, i.e. sell 1833 shares instead of just 33 shares.Speaking of which, i assume the transaction rate in odd lot board is extremely low though... The brokerage firm will accumulate odd lots from other people to make it a whole 100 shares then they sell. |

QUOTE(Asus @ Jul 11 2019, 10:51 PM) hi guys, i got dumb question here.. Depends on volume and how many people selling. if let say i wanna buy share before market open, and let say yesterday closing price was 0.50sen and if i wanna trade the next day and rumors has it going to be up and the TO also is green in the early trade, if i key in 0.60sen, and when market open the price is at 0.55sen and best buy price is only at 0.55sen, will my trade match at 0.55sen or it will wait at 0.60sen.. so lazy wanna change2 price everytime.. Let's say you key in to buy 10,000 units @ RM0.60. It opens at RM0.55 (4,000 units), RM0.58 (7,000 units) and RM0.60 (10,000 units). Your order is above the lowest ask price so it will be matched immediately. It will match 4,000 units @ RM0.55 and 6,000 units @ RM0.58 but will never touch RM0.60 because your order is already filled. This will also drive the price up to RM0.58. |
