iirc real video encoder is very slow compare with other encoders, if u cant play the HD video in real time, then transcoding it to other video format would take 3x or more time to finish it.
mind to tell the HD video use what codec? u should find a highly optimized video player to playback the HD video instead of transcoding it.

like shinjite siad, its all depend on encoder settings and bitrates,
but iirc real video codecs/sdk developments has been stall for sometimes already, no update since 2006 june.
the video quality is inferior compare to x264 and other h264 encoders even its based on h264.

Do you guy want to extract movie or sound file from the FLV that you downloaded ?? I found this small tool working well and fast(depending on the FLV file size). You just have to fire it up then drag and drop the FLV on it. What amaze me is, it is include the source of the application too!!!

download smplayer, http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/
after install it, at menu there, click preference > go to advanced > go to "Options for mplayer" tab > type -lavdopts fast:lowres=1 on "options:" there.
the option lowres=1 will reduce the video resolution by 50% which doesnt require cpu resoures, lowres=2 will reduce further, but i think it only works with mpeg video + avi container.

Your Proc. will bottleneck suggest at lease 2.4 & obove to prevent lag. Your ram is also not enought at lease 512 (300mhz).
