OLED fans please read this :-

LG in Malaysia and many TV shops cover burn in as part of their warranty , thus this article is literally meaningless to us in MY.

Plus , the OLED TV mentioned in the article came from the 2013 , the technology has gotten a lot more matured with protective measurement such as logo dimming and pixel shifting .

Modern OLED TVs are some of the most aesthetically pleasing and accurate displays ( talking about how OLED displays are being professionally used as grading suite monitors ) , with a far better sound quality ( compare to crappy LCD ) and light years ahead when it comes to picture quality.

Honestly , the only people who are still talking about Burn Ins are those who are jealous and bitter about the premium display but can't afford it .
Primarily because they have never own one and they don't exactly understand the technology either .

That or if you happen to be a Samsung employee wink.gif .

Proud owner of 4 OLED TVs here , couple of thousands of hours of viewing , not a single sign of burn in found .

BTW , the creator of this video is the same " Quantum apotheosis " guy who has been banned from Youtube twice , the same hilarious clown who are known to constantly attacking professional in the industry and putting feet in his mouth .
I would suggest anyone to stay away from his channel as far as possible .

Most of us know Samsung are the biggest attention seeker among the brands but even their PR want nothing to do with him , that speaks volume about the credibility of this guy smile.gif

Huh? Malaysia lg /Sony cover the burn in issue under the warranty?  I Thought burn in is no covered?

LG , and a couple of shop like HLK , cover Burn In ( burn marks are what they called ) for limited period of times , up to 3 years .

Sony Center does not cover for Burn Ins though but the shop you purchased from might .

Guys, another question...what is the major difference  compare with c8 and c9, other than hdmi 2.1 and eARC? C8 also support Dolby  vision and atmos through receiver, right? The price is huge jump from c8 to c9 (5k+- for 65 inch!)

Thank you
*
Because it is " new " . And new TV should always be " better and more expensive " according to TV brands . That is how they profit from those with fat wallet.

Primary difference between the two are still gaming related features , if you don't plan to game on it just stick with whichever you can find cheaper .
We had more discussion in details on these in the previous pages from this thread .

Hi bro, thanks again for the feedback.  Actually I'm abit confuse on the eARC and ARC....example for C8, it able to decode Dolby Atmos, but it only have ARC, can it still send signal to receiver through HDMI (ARC) and play the Dolby Atmos/DTS-X? or it will downgrade to only Dolby Digital/DTS? On the other hand, no issue for eARC?

thank you

Guys, lg webos able to input Chinese in YouTube or web browser? 65inch c9 price at 12999, any potential to drop further within this year? Thank you
*
Yes , you can select input languages via the setting menus .

Again , I really don't recommend people browsing sites on their TVs , most smart TV ( even the most expensive one from Sony like A9 series ) has very limited RAM .
Youtube app is just fine .

I m very sure C9 will drop to the same level as C8 some day . . The real question is , how long do you have to wait ? Nobody can give you a definitive answer .

A lot of inaccuracy in these articles , especially with the big claims where they are facing a lot of competition from Chinese OLED manufacturer , which is extremely insulting to begin with .

You can count the brands who can actually produce large OLED screen on 1 hand .
In China , there is only 1 notable OLED screen manufacturer , which is BOE . However they are only accounted for less than 5-10% of the total OLED big screens on market , and their OLED screens can't actually get very bright either , maxed out at around 300 nits . Not to mention a dozen of color accuracy and pixel efficiency issues . Hisense were purchasing OLED screens from them , look at how their lineup are forced to retreat from key markets cause of poor sales .

With LGD being pretty much , still the only major big OLED screen supplier in the field .

DSCC has already set a forecast where they foresee LCD TV market drying up by 2023 , with Micro-LED hitting a major roadblock and nowhere ready for consumer sizes , it is safe to say as long as LGD still hold the pattern rights for wRGB OLEDs , they will remain the key player in the industry. Samsung's Quantum OLEDs are still in pre-production and we have yet to see a prototype so it will take a long while before it is ready to launch .

tomorrow will be Oct...still no update regarding OLED B9...will wait for it to compare with C9, plan to get 1 of them within this year. Hopefully C9 will have a big discount before end of this year smile.gif

Why B9 ?

Since last year the " B " series have been getting downgrades quietly , although some of the downgrades were fairly subtle .

I have noticed the brightness levels have gone down , CPU downgraded , the remaining features have also been somewhat restricted , eg : the quad step noise reduction and gradient smoothing.

LG is well aware their B series has been competing with the C series and has been deliberately delaying the launch of the B series towards the end of the year .

In 2019 , the B9 is quite a bit inferior than the flagship C,E,W series , especially with the removal of autocal supports and reduced color accuracy from 3D L.U.T with less reference points.
As shown in the latest rting review , B9 does not go through the more elaborated factory calibration as it is highly inaccurate Out of the box . ( but that is one unit , my source of information does not come from rtings )

based on rtings rate, B9 still score 8.8 compare to C9 9.0. The rating between these 2 models for the movie performance (HDR or SDR) are almost the same...i want to see the real life  picture quality vs the price before move on  smile.gif
*
Doesn't matter how much it scores , rting ignores a lot of the contemporary issues of the TVs.

It is made for people who is not picky about picture quality but ultimately going for the cheapest models.
Almost every TV review is basically repeating itself in the same description .

If that's what you are looking for , why even bother to buy an OLED TV to begin with ? They will never beat the LCD TV when it comes to sheer price and screen brightness .

It is kind of sad when you throw rting's scores in my face when I am telling you problems outside of their review scores exist .
For eg : they did not cover any of the more severe issues from C8 , such as the HDR brightness fluctuation and the near black macro blocking . ( almost all of them have been fixed by LG 's engineers on the C, E , W series )

Again , whatever that floats your boat . I am just saying so if other people are buying TVs they are well aware of the problems and look further than the silly scoring from rtings .

Bro, what do you think about Sony 65 inch a8f? Looks like this 2018 model have stock most of the places, with price at 10k+-...compare with c9? I couldn’t find c8 at my place (non display model)
*
Ultimately the A8F is still an OLED TV , which means it retains all the excellent picture quality you can expect from OLED screen.

Just between the consumers , I really wouldn't recommend anyone to get an A8F .

It has tonnes of issues remain unfixed by Sony including its raised Dolby Vision black levels , near black flashing / macro blocking noise , ultra aggressive screen dimming , no HDR dynamic tone mapping functions etc etc .
The input latency is also rather high compare to other brands , if you plan to game on it .

Unless you can find one unit that is really cheap ( like someone found a 65 " going for RM7999 couple of months ago ) , I would advice against buying one.
If you are going to spend a lot of money on an OLED TV , get the A9F or A9G instead .

It is getting close to the end of the year and CES 2020 is coming soon , which is when TV brands usually unveil their new line up .
So if you are waiting for the big discount on C9 , it should be happening soon .

Thank you for your feedback, I will skip a8f  smile.gif

Usually the new model will only hit Malaysia market on q3 (June - aug), do you think they will give a big discount on this year end? By the way, I just realized the price for c9 65inch just increase 2k compare to last month doh.gif , the reason given was promotion for sept was ended  blush.gif
*
They should because that is usually when people got their big bonus to spend on the more expensive electronics .

I recalled the C8 55 " dropping below $7k and 65 " hovering around $11-12k with free sound bar during the X'mas last year.

The thing with C9 is they are still facing competition from their predecessor . Sales from C8 is still strong and the HDMI 2.1 features are , apparently not very much of a reason to upgrade for many people .
Maybe things will change in the future when they actually have more devices that can truly benefit from the updated HDMI 2.1 ports .

*
You can't , either the Youtube team has decided to forbid the feature or they have completely overlooked it .

The youtube TV app is really lackluster, you can't even read the comments posted by the users on the TV apps .
Same thing is happening on Samsung 's YT TV app as well .

One way to go around this is to search for the result on PC or via Mobile phone and look through your search history on TV ( do make sure your youtube TV app are linked ) .

The other way is to change the entire APP language setting into Chinese , that should allow you to input Chinese language from the search bar.

On the left side of the menu , go to settings , scroll down to language and you can switch the app default languages .

The voice control function should still be working fine after that .

Thank you very much.  By the way, c9 not able to play Dolby vision movie through usb hdd? It only play as hdr, but not dv...those movies files are bdmv (open from stream folder inside the bdmv), I play it directly using c9 USB port
*
There are no Dolby Vision ripped movies out there , because they are mostly either improperly ripped or illegal . The last time I checked , all current remuxes still remove the Dolby Vision metadata layers but we will not go into details here.
You need very specific softwares to rip the Dolby Vision layer of meta data from the resources correctly .

A couple of Dolby Vision demo clips from this site ( which is legit ) and they work just fine .

With Dynamic Tone Mapping function turned on HDR10 should look identical with Dolby Vision mastered movies ( with a few minor technical differences where most people will not notice ) .
Which is why buying HDR TVs with DTM is important thesedays . All Samsung , Sony and Panasonic 's latest premium TVs are equipped with one .
LG TVs have already got it since 2017 .

Netflix , Amazon prime and Apple TV are still your primary source for Dolby Vision right now .

hi bro, do you know which button from remote control can show the resolution of video that we currently playing? or even show HDR (or Dolby Vision), 10Bit/8Bit etc...can LG OLED show that?  thank you
*
Whenever you play a HDR file it should tell you via a notification on the top right .

During the playback for streaming apps , not really . Just stop the media and continue where you left off , it should show you the notification pop up again .

If you are talking about the inner TV player , you can press the Wheel button and navigate to the " additional option " button which is marked with " . . . " , press into it and it should show you the HDR format, resolution , the audio track and other information.

hi guys, question about c9, this oled will perform auto upscaling for any incoming source? because i cannot find such function (enable/disable upscaling), thank you
*
Upscaling is automated process which is activated via the internal TV processing chip whenever you feed the TV with lower than native resolution material , thus it cannot be deactivated and doesn't require manual activation either.

If you don't calibrate your display like most of the TV buyers out there , you probably want to avoid the B9 .

LG is well aware their biggest competition of their OLED E and C series , comes from their very own B series .
Especially since it is cheaper ( in the oversea at least ) and has the same PQ performance and specs , as many have been saying since 2016 , why not ?

But things have started to change since 2018.
I have noticed the B series is on average , at least 100 cd/m2 (nits) dimmer below the C and E series . At first I thought it may be just panel variance .

Now in 2019 , reviews from multiple AV outlets confirms my suspicion .
LG is starting to intentionally dial back the features and specs of the B series to make the C and E more appealing.

At the same time , the B9 must have skipped an important step in the factory calibration settings as well .
The out of box color accuracy is just unusually bad, it is horrendous . This is no isolated incident , it was mentioned on several other professional reviews as well.

QUOTE
from 8KTV aus
For some reason, the LG B9 shipped with very bad pre-calibration settings. As a result, the white balance is way off, color accuracy is very off, and the color temperature is very warm. While this can be easily fixed with a calibration tool, not all buyers have the option to do so. It’s so strange for LG to have this when most TVs in 2019, including budget options, come with good pre-calibration out of the box.

from 4kdotcom
As for color accuracy, these are specs that we measure by the key specs of white balance delta E, color delta E and Gamma. In the B9, they are really damn crappy right out of the box but quickly become incredibly excellent after some moderate adjustment in the TV’s picture control menus.

from rtings
The accuracy of the B9 with its pre-calibration settings is poor. Most people will notice the inaccuracies in the pure whites, as the color temperature is warm with a yellowish tint. Enthusiasts, however, will also notice some inaccuracies in the colors. The gamma follows the target well, but some brighter scenes don't have the proper brightness.
This is strange because OLED TVs are usually pretty accurate . To the point the B series reminded me of those China's ABC brand TV you see below $2k.

Considering that the B9 has an inferior 3D Look Up Table (than C , E , W ), which means you will not be getting the same ultra accurate color accuracy you seen from the C , E , W series .
The post processing features like smooth gradation and noise reduction efficiency have also been reduced to half .
This is going to be noticeable in some of the badly compressed material , such as the infamous Games of thrones Episode 3 from season 8.

Essentially , everything that won the C and E series the " TV of the year " award from TV shoutouts are absent on the B9 series .

$9000 is still a very attractive price for a 65" OLED TV especially one that has HDMI 2.1 ports readily installed . It still retains most of the benefits from an OLED display but the drawback is becoming more significant each year .
On a buyer's perspective , if you really can't afford the C9 , you are better off with a 65" C8 which should not be much more pricey than the B9 by now.

They clearly are cutting a major cost on B9 this year.
Even the TV stand is entirely made of plastic with no cable management slot unlike the C9 .

Judging on how slow B8 has been getting firmware updates , the B9 will likely be given the same treatment .
It only had received the HDR brightness fluctuation patch months after the C8 .

As of today , the B8 has yet to receive the near black gradient improvement updates while the C and E owners have already gotten it for 6 months ago .
At this point , we don't even know if they are still coming .

The other major turn off for me is still the very inaccurate out of box settings , since most of these buyers don't calibrate their TV .

Everything the B9 does well , the other models and brands like Panasonic & Sony OLEDs can do just as good , if not better.
If people are fine with that , I guess $9000 is still an extremely good deal for a 65" OLED .

Or maybe wait for Sony to pull another "$7999" for A8G soon like they did with A8F smile.gif

Hi bro, if both LG B9 and Sony A8G have the same price, which one would you recommend? Anything i have to be aware of?
Usage: no gaming, just watch blu-ray movies, regular TV shows, sports
*
A8G definitely , especially if you don't need it for gamings . A8G inherits all the amazing picture processing quality from the very high end A9F & A9G .

It lacks the HDMI 2.1 & eARC , so you have to ask yourself if you really want that 2 features .

And Acoustic screen surface is awesome .
