The Xiaomi Mi5 won’t launch until next month, but Xiaomi’s flagship phone just popped up on one online retailer’s website. The long-rumored handset was briefly spotted at Chinese site XiaomiDevice, revealing a few new images and a full list of hardware.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Smartphone Main Features:
- 2.15 GHz Snapdragon 820 Quad-Core Processor
- 3GB RAM With 32GB ROM/ 4GB RAM with 128 GB ROM
- 600Mbps 4G+ download speeds, VoLTE

Is not Xiaomi problem if you double cross check the price in RMB. The reason Mi3 are cheaper because Mi4 already launched.
Another reason is the Malaysia currency weaken and GST, we should thanks to our Jibby. Cast your vote smarter next time on 2017/2018.

What happened to Note 2 ? Face it Malaysia is 2nd grade consumer for xiao mi .

Really ? 6% and 1.4 exchange rate can make 700 to 2500 ? Yourself also Dont believe .

The Mi3 had its price reduced before it was brought in to Malaysia. The direct conversion was accurate.

Blame our weak currency. The 10400mAh's powerbank's international pricing is USD13.99 which when directly converted to Malaysian ringgit is equivalent to RM66.30. Add GST and voila.

Some Malaysian consumers feel like they're so entitled, it hurts my brain.

Duh I know you are china phone supporter but this is over . I Dont blame you if you cant see xiaomi hunger sales strategy and slowly jack up the price there isnt any point to continue the argument .

Hope so . I really dont like xiaomi keep increase their price after gain popularity with those Rm36 power bank and mi3 . I blame it on those blind china phone fan on this for connive the company .
I feel like malaysia is trash bin for unwanted outdated product left by china consumer . They get mi4 metal build and snapdragon 801 we get shitty mi4i with plastic build and shitty snapdeagon 615 not even getting mi4c .
Now china is getting redmi note 3 pro already with snapdragon 650 and 16mp and we get what ? redmi note 2 ? I think meizu is better choise of budget phone now .

i like xiaomi product in general.

i dont mid buying AP set coz its cheap.

maybe they late come to official malaysia store becoz they couldnt supply enough stock to china market.

hence only release after the demand in china is low for certain product.

What to do with Redmi Note 3 launched when your earlier posts mentioned Xiaomi Mi3? I don't get what you trying to saying here...

If you are unhappy about the decision that Xiaomi came out the Redmi Note 2/2 prime, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro in just 3/4months only, you should know that the name scheme doesn't mean anything.
Either the Redmi Note 2 or Redmi Note 3 or Redmi Note 3 Pro come with different Pros and Cons and different price tags. It gave us consumers choice to choose, so why angry them?

And yet, Xiaomi Mi3 was selling at RM769 (after discount from RRP RM889), and since when Xiaomi Mi4 or Xiaomi Mi Note are selling at RM2500. What are you talking about?

I don't see anything wrong with China phone, almost all phone are manufacturing in China. Nexus 6p is different story, pure Android rom by Google. The price is no problem what.

hmmm.. china phones is getting better and better each day. i really don't see why not? I owned few samsungs in the past and after using a xiaomi i really can't see why should I go back to samsung... like seriously? Some of my friends also gave up korean phones already and went for xiaomi/huawei respectively...

Some people are just biased towards China phones
I had used before XM Note Pro, various Huawei models, One Plus One, One Plus Two, Oppo - all these I won't say are poorer than HTC, Sony, LG or Samsung
China phones had improved a lot n drastically past 2+ years
Just like some users just look down on Kia, Hyundai cars vs Toyota, Honda, Nissan

Me too . In fact xiaomi still a mediacore product . There is compensation here and there . Not saying its not good . But its not up to the highest standard to justify 2k price . Even meizu is better . If they want to jack up the price that much there is no reason to justify that .

Some die hard china phone supporter Cant see that tho . Meizu mx4 is betTer choice for now if want to have budget phone .

I do agree with this, and personally dont have much interest on xiaomi phone as there are many more other china brand available.

And price is indeed slowly hiking up on these china brands, where back at around 2 years ago, flagship all mostly top at 2k rmb, where now already over that line. And one thing which I dislike bout xiaomi phone is having various network version. It cant just follow others like for eg zte to release one phone which support all network band.

The phone does not resemble the Mi 5, but does bare a resemblance to the Apple iPhone 6s or the HTC One M9. This is Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus?

to justify the price hike, xiaomi or other china brand must also push up the faster the annual Android core OS update !!!!! At least 3-4 months after the Google final announcement !!!!!!!!!!!! Not wait wait till none. (at least to their flagship models)

Xiaomi? Don't like the UI. Camera isn't as good as Samsung and the screen is usually only LCD. Not to mention slow Android updates..

I believe what you said are true. Because Xiaomi is the company that like to fullfilled all fans wish, some like front fingerprint, some like back fingerprint. So instead of piss off both type of fans, they will make it for all their fans. I still remember that time Xiaomi Mi3 got Nvdia Tegra SoC and Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC.

I bought the xiaomi redmi 2. The camera is terrible. The os is also quite buggy. Connection was timing out sometimes on wifi and data.

I am waiting for this phone as well. Using Mi3 for almost 2 years. Don't see how it that worse than Samsung or any other android brand. In fact I prefer MIUI than others.

Lowyat made a post, showing that Feb 24 should be launching in Barcelona. laugh.gif

If don't like the phone/feel too expensive, go somewhere else la. Don't make like it fanboy flaming each other. dry.gif Kena report kena ban buat bising plak.

1) Because is Mi Brand, want SD Card slot? There you go for Redmi Brand.
2) App Drawer on MIUI? Because MIUI are designed at the begining without App Drawer. lol maybe future will add alternative option. MAYBE Lar...
3) Fast Update? MIUI guarantee developer weekly MIUI Fast Update, not Android version. If want that, might as well buy Nexus.

I use MIUI ROM since Samsung Galaxy S2 era, there are something MIUI they won't change because of fundamental.

With SD Slot is good for store video/photo/music/documents purposes, but even with marshmallow allow to adapt SD Slot as primary internal storage, still won't as fast as UFS 2.0 tongue.gif

The leaked PPT confirms that the MI 5 will have a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display and will be powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. Nice FHD 5.2" screen.Hope battery life great.Nice addition also if have SD card slot.

Only don't like front finger print like Samsung. Wish they don't make it appears like behind the glass so do front look clean. S820 should support it not?

My brother is using Mi4i, the only issue he is facing are the multi tasking a bit slow. Camera is good. Anyhow, we can't expect too much from a HP camera isn't it? I do see people take good pictures using redmi note 2 blink.gif with good lighting and angles of course.

Maybe 6 to 8 months later as usual if have luck.
They will usually cater in their home market first since China in an extremely big market.
Even Mi4 oso haven't released in Malaysia.

DirectD if recently release they will jack the price up even more... that's something I don't like... furthermore rumor going around the price of MI 5 is going to be from USD 499 - 599... which is expensive... but then again it's rumor... hopefully it will be cheaper.

Some said ceramic is good for thermal insulation, which mean you hardly can feel the heat if the phone is getting hot. hmm.gif

Xiaomi also explained that ceramic is good for its hardness and toughness. So i guess the phone body won't get broken easily compared to other phones?

Playstore could not be sideloaded since Lollipop as it is a core part of Android system due to ART implementation.

You need to flash it on a unlocked bootloader.

Personally i don't believe that rumor since the first day it was spreaded. This is Mi series. The 5.7" should belong to the Mi note series. Just my 2 cents.

Yours should be RM889 also right. Still doing good, besides whatsapp laggy coz too much messages and play high end game slow. I basically chipped each corner of the HP, falling in water, fell on tar road, etc etc! Still can use without interruption! haha. Which HP you using now?

Ya. Honestly, eventhough the spec may seems outdated now, Mi3 is still doing very fine in many aspects. It's the best Xiaomi phone I have ever used so far (my family members using RN2 & Mi4i). thumbup.gif I sold it because I wanted to upgrade to larger phone. Right now I am using Note 5 & Oneplus one. smile.gif

For potential Mi5 buyers out there, if you hate the ugly "black bezel inside screen display" problem, please do remember this, go for the black color. Don't buy the white and gold color. because.......see the pic below.

before you guys get too excited about the new phone, here's a gentle reminder. The standard spec (3gb ram +32gb rom) is using SD 820 1.8ghz & Adreno 530 510MHz. So it's a "criple" version of SD 820 & Adreno 530. Not a really big deal anyway. Just in case some may go to buy the phone without being acknowleged about this.

I think both are looking for different things. Westerners like the little details like software, usb c, battery, ois, flushed camera...Chinese I think more on copy samsung, looking like iphone, price, looks.

to be frank, despite Chinese OEMs keep on releasing good phones like this Mi5, it's still lacks status because of the word "cheap" when I discussed with few of my friends.

we hardly seeing any CEOs, businessmen, rich guys using Xiaomi, OPPO, Huawei etc. Most of these people either use iPhone, Samsung, HTC, Sony because these are establish brands and there are few times more expensive than Chinese phones which at the same time also carry status.

similarly, no one will buy a Proton if given the car with Ferrari specs selling at RM70K. People which needs status when meeting clients outside will still get an Audi which cost RM250K even if that Audi specs is lower than the Proton.

for me, since I am in business line despite liking this Mi5 very much, I am hesitate to get it.

sad but true and this is the reality.

Been a loyal Mi fans since Mi3, but Mi4 and Mi Note (flagships from Xiaomi) nothing surprised me.

Then I bought the awesome S6 (the only problem is poor battery life).

Now I am thinking which one should I go for.

Mostly are disappointed because it doesn't meet their expectation. Mi5 took 19 months to be released after Mi4. So they thought it would be a huge improvement. But at the end, they are not impressed.

And some other things they hate including the "fake slim bezel", the home button, and the "criple" SD chip for based model.

This just came in. Apparently, the first batch sales on 1st March in China are only limited to base model and the 64gb rom model. The highest spec Mi 5 Pro is not included in the first batch.

This is crazy. Everyone know that most people will go for the Pro model. But Xiaomi is not going to sell it on the first wave. What the hell?

I guess they are worry that the fans may ditch the base model. So they came out with this silly tactic? shakehead.gif

after dropping 1.3k on Mi4c only a few months ago, I'm finding it hard to justify spending again on this, even though RM 1750 (RMB 2700) is fair in my opinion, but damn I want it QAQ

btw, I estimate it to be RM2000 +- RM 100 when it reaches here, with the early batches being even more expensive

Mi Note Pro must have a successor, question is when... I was holding on my Note 5 purchase in favour of the Mi 5 plus... now since it might not be coming out... I might be getting the Mi 5 Pro version... see how la... when it's coming to malaysia.

I want the pro version is because of the Ceramic body.. According to Chinese review, they said the Ceramic Body are "F**King Awesome" when holding in hand.

Of course at the end of the day, people might flap the case on the body, but at least is 8H scratch resistant.

Still the cheapest snapdragon 820 handset with reasonably wide avialability out there . So dont really mind a lower clockspeed and slower graphics processor.

Another bad news. It might be a rumor, but it could be very true as well.

An unknown source indicated that the reason why Xiaomi doesn't want to sell Mi5 Pro at the first batch simply because the quantity is limited. It's limited due to the higher production cost on the ceramic body. It will be quite difficult to get one even if you want to buy it in China.

If this is true, that means Mi Malaysia may bring a very limited stock of Mi 5 Pro into here. Or worse, they won't bring in the Mi 5 Pro at all. If this happen, it will be another big let down to the Malaysian Mi fans.

Goto Aliexpress after the first round of sales. Should be able to find one.since this is not iphone .there is not too much room to jack the price up. I found a redmi note 3 pro at around 1100 ringgit while xiaomi official selling at 780 ringgit . So a hike of around rm350 is consider good already.

High chances Malaysia will only get the cheaper version unless the Pro version not selling well then they dump it to Malaysia market.

Just look at the trend of Mi Malaysia. Only dumping unwanted Mi version.

To be exact the SD820 is custom designed core by Qualcomm, not those last gen SD810 rush out 64bits just for the sake of having it.. To be exact, I would call it the SD820 is the true successor of SD801.

According to the chinese fans, it was confirmed that Mi 5 Pro's screen is using Glorilla Glass 4. However, the base model and 64 gb storage models are unknown.

Already read the Mi5 review from China websites. After testing, it's confirmed that SD 820 does not have overheat issue like previous SD810. Since Mi5 has no problem on heat issue, I guess S7 should be the same as well.

I mean , who is going to pay RM15XX to buy Mi Note with Snapdragon 801 when the minimum speced MI5 will be around RM1285 ?Go visit the Malaysia Page , almost everything is out of stock. can buy powerbank (mostly silver and red only) and a few out of date phones only. The price of things like selfie sticks , mi band and USB LED light is very high as compared to the China Official site price. Mi band sells for RMB 69 in China. Here its RM68.

6gigs of RAM don't mean a squat if Vivo doesn't optimize it well enough. Look at the Note 5. 4gigs of RAM is useless. Can't even keep more than 5 apps in memory.

i can confirm it worked with all our telcos

downside need to be a bit tech savvy to install gapps and tweak some stuff la. at worst need to learn flashing

On a phone spec like MI 5 MIUI would be light. On a 2GB ram fone like Rermi Note 3 . It feels a bit heavy at times . But i would pick MIUI over samsungs Touchwiz anyday. Mainly because MIUI pinyin prediction is very accurate.

If the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 that Modem itself are still not enough to cover LTE in Malaysia, it should be shoot to death.

Because we are in SEA (MY) and we not using those weird unique LTE band like those in US T-Mobile/Verizon etc... or China those LTE... Also this Mi5 selling point are fully 4G compatible across the China Telco v2.0.

MIUI itself is a heavy skin OS just like TouchWiz. So they just took out certain feature based on entry/mid/flagships. But in my opinion, 2GB are minimum, 3GB are recommended, 4GB and above are ideal.

Yes, Note 5 the latest TouchWiz got some RAM aggressive management problem. Most people using it know it.

U can flash roms with a locked bootloader?? from my experience u have to unlock, custom recovery then flash. Or is yours prior to lock. Don't update ota though, many ended up bricking their rn3 and became locked.

oh no la, mine also locked. In fact I receive rights to unlock but I didn't do it tongue.gif
I just use SP flash method to flash fastboot rom with it... work flawlessly

I think "5.5.16" for Mi5 is possible, xiaomi likes to do that.
For Mi Note who knows, might even be next year cause unlike samsung & apple, no fixed yearly launch.

However, the product name may change depends on the sales performance of Mi5. If Mi5's sales volume does not meet their expectation, Xiaomi may change "Mi note 2"'s name in to "Mi5 Plus".

Anyway, I couldn't care less. We even have problem to get a hold of Mi5 in Malaysia market.

Hehe , they dare speak of sales volume "did not met their expectation " while they can only come up with white color option and no PRO version for their first ever sale of MI 5, they cant even supply MI5 at the numbers that preordered .
What is the use if you expect to sell kazillion MI5 but you Only have parts for 6 or 7 million sets . Last year they say they missed their target of 80 million but we in Malaysia did not even get to smell Redmi Note 3 much less buying it. If it was avialable widely and not solely in mainland , then they might be able to acheive their target.

Now this is the device that I would be waiting.

Because to be frank, 5.2 inch is a bit on the smaller side for me, would definitely love something at 5.5 inch or slightly above, Mi Note-alike size sounds perfect for me.

There's something that worried me about Xiaomi as a phone manufacturer though, their speed of pumping out OS updates are absolutely atrocious and I being an Android apps developer would love to have something that have the newest OS to test my stuff out, running stuff on emulators is really inefficient, takes forever to load and not everything works like it does in a real phone.

Haha, never have the plans to deal with him anyways. I rather pay more to one of the Taobao service provider here to get it from China myself. And since he is the distributor, I don't know why the need of PM him to get the price. Damn stupid.

Yup...even tested its finger print.They also have Mi4S and I have to say the back finger print I more like and faster.Mi4S is even lighter than Mi5 and much more compact.

Price also not so jack up like Mi5 2k+ for 64GB and support SD card.I rather wait for local available for Mi5.

the last time i buy CDM phone, its full of bloat and i can't update the ROM. This is lenovo byw. pls check that u can receive OTA.

since S7 is not coming, i'll wait for the official Mi5.

most likely mi5. according to the sirim db, this device has NFC. Mi4S dun hv NFC. i think RN3 dun hv NFC too. so likely Mi5.

RN3 was on 2.2.16...gonna release two months later in April. Thats why i predict in May, 2 months later which is also 1 month after India. I Hope!

You won't really notice the difference unless side by side and on Gear VR.Anything with 320++ppi is already good.Not much content is on QHD format anyway.

I rather have better battery life then something that I really don't notice.

I think it's depends on the screen size. For phones at the range of 5-5.5 inch, you won't notice much difference between QHD & FHD since the screen size is small. But for phones at the range of 5.5-6.0 inch, you may notice the difference.

Nope unless you put it side by side.What's matter is pixel per inch (ppi) human eye can seems can't seems to tell the difference when it's 370+ something. Unless u put it really close to your eye like Gear VR or use Cardboard.

Mi5 only using 5.15" seriously not much difference. You can go compare Sony Z5 & Z5 premium side by side. It will affect performance & battery life alot more as 4k harder to push, i prefer battery than a Little screen prettyness.

to be frank, it depends... i used Mi3, Pantech R3 and others Full HD screen b4..
but now i'm using HTC Desire 820s which only has HD... does i feel low quality???
answer is no... it depends on the panel's quality...
i feel Lenovo P70 screen is worst than my current phone...
put side by side then you will realise, i use APP to compare not photo... so more fair...

so i sold it to my bro which use it happily as he upgrade from Lenovo A series...

Mi5 only using 5.15" seriously not much difference. You can go compare Sony Z5 & Z5 premium side by side. It will affect performance & battery life alot more as 4k harder to push, i prefer battery than a Little screen prettyness.
RN3 i think will sell out fast as its really good and cheap. But Mi5 which is 1.5k> i doubt people will fight over it??

You guys are right, even s7 edge is like RM2.4k only for preorder from Samsung web. Also, Maxis even give out free S2 gear(which is negligible to me rclxs0.gif )

S7 Edge, in term of looks totally beat this Mi5. S7 Edge got better specs too hmm.gif

if AP set if from China, be careful. update may be an issue and also all the bloat that comes with China phone.

if AP is from say.... SG, i dun mind is its a significant saving. if its RM100 cheaper, i m not bothered.

Nope. Is all marketing. Look at me. I have QHD. When in actual fact there's nothing on the market to support QHD. QHD = battery drain faster, price increase much more.

I would wish Mi5 is in the range of Rm700-rm800 like mi3. Mi5 at rm1500 is ~2x the price of mi3

i'm more optimistic, i hope it will be below RM1.2k haha...
if Redmi Note3 SD version next month really ~RM800 for 3GB ram + 32GB version...
then it might be true... Mi5 could be around 1.5k after conversion...

Xiaomi is slowly increasing their price. The only good thing about xiaomi is the
1) low price
2) the ability to set alarm and let it ring even when phone is off
3) good battery life
4) decent camera

If they Increase it to Samsung/Sony price, not going to buy their product anymore. Look at their powerbank. Rm36 when launch. Now already RM59. Better get pineng. Cheaper and more or less same quality
