Quick question, does NETFLIX support Dolby Digital 5.1 over optical from smartTV app?

Or must I have a smarttv with Dolby digital plus support for 5.1 surround?

All depends on the TV model and it's abilities.. Most recently manufactured Smart TVs can support outputting Netflix's DD 5.1 (using the TV's app) either through their speakers or via optical.

I'm not entirely sure as I've obviously not watched all available. However, of the thousands of content I and or SO watched over the years.. I'm yet to come across a title that doesn't have DD.

Thank you. I ask this because on their support page it says Netflix supports DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS only. So I assume it has standard Dolby Digital through optical as well

I could be wrong.. But here's my take on all this..Dolby Digital Plus does not allow S/PDIF output, only HDMI 1.3 output and above.. So signals like DD+ and TrueHD end up being "downgraded" to DD on your TV and passed on. Why? cuz even with TrueHD, there's the core DD in it. But again, ultimately it depends on your TV or AVR.. Mine is from 2014, supports DTS and Dolby TrueHD.. However when I play Netflix, I get DD on the TV/HT.

Through HDMI-ARC to HT... TV's and all connected (HDMI) devices' audio are passthrough-ed to the HT to process.

Download Apktoide TV
http://m.aptoide.com/installer-aptoide-tv?lang=en

Search Netflix in this app, they will auto find the version which compatible with your box.

Depends on your setup. If you connect TV Box/HTPC--> AVR -->TV, you will get DD+ (provided your TV box and AVR support it). Previously i use HTPC to get DD plus.

You will never get HD or DD Plus on Android TV box unless it is one of the certified brand by Netflix (Amazon, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, and some odd UK STB). You will get SD very pixelated screen and stereo sound only if you use a generic android box running Netflix.

Yes, I've seen reviews on youtube for these cheap 4K android box not supporting 4k or worse no FULLHD/HD support. The cheapest box I've seen to support is the Xiami Mi S box.

Anyway, just wanted to add that I'm getting Dolby Digital 5.1 on my Hisense 50k321uw over optical. Also on the Netflix app(from win10 store), 5.1 works over normal PCM as well.
