This is just a simple comparison that i've came across the web

Dun mind the GRAFIC card spelling. weird as it seems, it sounds modern... wink.gif

so, here it is

Comparison of Grafic Cards

In the following briefly we will list all grafic cards for Notebooks, which are available at the market. Additionally we represent approximate values of different bench marks (3D Mark at the moment) in italic style beneath the display adapters.

this thread is just for information. should u all need more details on performance, heat issue, obscene power consumptions and such, google is the one to consult

anyway, just to give a hnit: the 7950GTX SLi has massive heatsinks and is only available in 19"-size laptops and consumes 170+W of juice

Hmm the chart is difficult to see tho as there's alot of disparity in the benchmark. I've posted this to another thread but I think it's quite useful and easier to see.

Since power and heat is upmost important in lappies... benchmark depends really on the thermal budget and clocks speeds, throttle speeds etc are set accordingly.

As such, 2 similiarly configured systems on different notebook platform may have a bigger disparity compared to desktops lor.

even the lowest of all GPU takes up a whopping +/- 5W. that's A LOT

i'd like to see a GPU that matches the Pentium-M ULV in term of power consumption and processing power

then i'll be one step closer to my ultimate mobile porn rig

i agree. 4k fr laptop consider a mid range. But i would prefer to have mid range laptop since they are mostly use for conventional purposes and not using mainly for hardcore gaming.

Now here is an interesting question, with Windows Vista out, does it justify to get a costly GPU that supports DX9 only or wait for a GPU that can support DX10.

Considering the capability boosted by DX10, and hearing about what is can do is impressive. The current cards that are on the market, which most or all are DX9 only cannot be brought forward in any way to use DX10 stuff.

I'm sure most GPU suppliers are racing to make cards that support DX10 from "low to high" price cards. As for the mobile section, i'm sure the it will be QUITE some long time before any laptops will be available with DX10 capable...

Tell me its false! its false! i don't want to wait too long for a lappie that can run DX10 games!!! mad.gif

CAD ppl will benefit most based on mobile SLI or crossfire.wat for wan use a laptop for gaming.i burnt my motherboard coz i played maple story too much wif my laptop.cost me 400 bucks to repair it at acer service centre at USJ 3.

btw my laptop is 2 years already:
Pentium M 1.6GHZ(dothan core)
15.4wxga lcd
ati mobility radeon 9700/64mb
60gb 4200rpm IBM Travelstar HDD
1GB Kingston SODIMM DDR333
SoundBlaster Audigy2 (PCMCIA aka Cardbus)
graphic driver:-mobile catalyst 7.2

for NFS carbon, maximum setting for graphics is smooth(512mb ram still laggy during races at times) except shadow details must be set to 'LOW' and anti aliasing 'OFF'.

It wont matter actually as DX9 still manage to work with DX10 stuff. The difference whether you want the new look or simply i can a new physics and graphics representation with DX10 or just running with mainstream DX9.

for rendering, GC and processor also important..
if really concentrate on graphic stuff rather than game, go for Nvidia Quadro FX or ATI FireGL... special for graphic design..

means without hypermemory which share amount of memory with RAM.
this happen in most acer X1600 laptop.
(i.e.128/256 dedicated vram, 128/256 from RAM)

~not bad, my 3years-old 9700mobility still fall on 3rd category...

Just for updates, newest and fastest card for now is 2 x 512mb Nvidia Geforce 7950 GO GTX in SLi-enabled by Alienware (another Arima model with the same chassis as the first SLi mobile platform by them)

its available in the US by the only manufacturer Alienware Corp.( yes not even Dell for the moment..). Rumors saying it is upgradeable to dx10 cards later on. The beast is not officially out yet but its available for customize and order by now.

Here is the link for those who want more info : Alienware's Area-51 m9750

the black matte finish is the best,damn.. the single card 512mb 7950gtx almost equal to Aurora m9700's 7900GS's in SLi !!

but SLi still doing better in terms of framerate and 3dmark benchmarks.. in term of multitasking and else of coz is outperform by the m9750 consider its dual-core,dual-GPUs,dual-harddrives.. word.. and when u SLi-ed this thing, of coz it will be the fastest mobile system for now..

For those who think this is not heatwise, im sorry to dissapoint you guys but the truth is its' predecessor is well-made and very well-known for its stability in terms of hardware performance and efficiency. All credits to Arima rclxms.gif

For the battery life, for normal purpose and presume we configure PowerMizer and stuff with a single 7900, u can get a full 2 1/2 hours tops. Hate to say but for gaming with SLi on and everything, u are lucky to get it works for full 1 hour.. u prob get the low-batt warning by the time u turn on the SLi haha..

latest mobile graphic for now is
GeForce 8700M GT - first full dx10 card for mobile enthusiasts.

To answer ur question yes. There were 7600gs back then then came 7800gtx. After that 7900gs and 7900gtx late last year then finally the best of 7xxx series 7950gtx. About 8800M we still dont know when it will comes out. Sooner or later, we just have to wait and see.

this happen in most acer X1600 laptop.

Just for information.
With the latest driver, intel x3100 can outperform nvidia 7150m in PES 2008.
x3100 still can play 800x600 medium, while 7150m is unplayable at medium.

eventhough if u are using class 2 u cant upgrade it (like x1600 0r 8600)

ur laptop must support mxm vga type ,then u can upgrade

fyi, most of the mxm laptop is 17 inches(dell inspiron 9300 or fujitsu amilo pro 3438)

too all sifus out there, i'm buying a used laptop for dota.....

what's the minimum gpu that Dota/Warcraft will run like my pc....?

i'm not a hardcore resolution freak, am happy with dota on my old rig
athlon 1.6ghz, 1Gb Ram, GF FX5200, res 1024 X 768 (16bit) or 800X600 (32bit). i'm not fussy.

any ideas? will radeon 9000 be equivalent? or should i be looking at something higher?

thx in advance guys.

I wanna know that sinces every high end mobile GCs are hot, it could fry the mobo easily isn't it? furthermore, laptop's mobos are not cheap.

I use a nVidia 9800GT, and have no heat problems with it. In fact, it even runs cooler than my old dell with intel GMA 950 doh.gif

it all boils down to how the laptop chasis is designed

Yeah...was thinking of getting those Acer laptops with 9600M GT. Are those series any good? i mean for that price range of course. And also i heard some pretty bad things about Acer Laptops. Is it true ? Like poor after sales service, or something like tat ? Can anybody clarify tat this laptop is good ? Thanks.

lol. for now, acer has the cheapest one with the 9600MGT inside.. at only 4499. but many people state that acer's quality is not good as they reduce the cost by using cheap materials etc. etc. so.. if you're not a very rough person with your laptop, maybe u can give it a try.. biggrin.gif

Bro yours is desktop or laptop? As I know, laptop GC cannot be changed as it is soldered on motherboard. If desktop then go for Ati3450, even laptop also go for ati one. Never try nvidia, nowdays their chips are almost defective one. Especially 8400m gs, all also got problem.

depends on the mobile gpu factor. Some can be upgraded as long as the factor is the same type.

u mean the MXM ports??? there are a total of 4 types of them if i remember correctly, and it's not like PCI-E x16 on desktop where 1 interface fits all...

but most laptops in the market use the soldering method instead... helps to reduce cost of production...

Most of the intergrated graphic could support dota with no problem. nod.gif
HD3200 will be slightly cooler as it's an integrated graphic. nod.gif

upgraded gpu, will need to consider the power input for the laptop. Some user needs to change the adapter for the power to support the mobile gpu.

Btw, saw asus g50/70 at pc fair. 9700m gt.... drool.gif
I like 8800m gtx better for naming. performance i guess there should be gtx280m soon. laugh.gif

currently, if u make a direct comparison of the spec (SP and memory) of mobile and desktop cards, 9800M GTX is the same as 9800GT...

by looking at the spec, Mobility Radeon HD 4850 looks like a downclocked desktop Radeon HD 4850, so i believe it's performance should exceed 9800M GTX...

I think the 9650M GT 1GB uses DDR2 which isnt very good. The 9650M GT is essentially an overclocked 9600M GT made on a smaller fabrication.

9300M is the rebadge from 8400m wif a little performance increment.
8600m has a lot of well known problem aka Defect GPU chip.

4870 is pretty rare in the market...

anyway, the clock of THE GPU is pretty low... probably can't fully utilize GDDR5 also...

4850 is getting common in high end laptops though...

but i myself prefer to see 4860...

4860 is a downclocked 4830 right? it only has 640 shaders if not mistaken wouldn't the high clock gives out more heat?

4860 is the mobile version of desktop 4770...

somehow in benchmark, it's slightly faster than 4850... probably cuz 4850 has been downclocked severely compared to desktops version...

performance in ascending order...

4830 (640SP, 128bit, GDDR3)
4850 (800SP, 256bit, GDDR3)
4860 (640SP, 128bit, GDDR5)
4870 (800SP, 256bit, GDDR5)

strange, but true (as AMD claims so)...

it depends on ur hardware watt consumption. More high spec, more power drain per minute.

actually most of mobile graphic were using same interface, so technically is possible to swap. But will also depend on ur laptop whether got slot or not , can provide enough power, compatibilities, got enough space or not, heatsink can suffer it's heat or not?

USA got some sort of barebone laptop which u can customize ur own spec, with various of choices. Sadly malaysia dont had those things i guess.

1st depends which gpu you get.
2nd ATI for games,Nvidia for professional work more.
3rd You can get a Higher card in ATI with lower price more then Nvidia.
4th It's hard to decide smile.gif currently I'm using Nvidia but I'm ATI fans because am a gamer. I'm using this Nvidia for editing, etc for school course too smile.gif

actually what you said is not quite accurate.

Long back, nvidia came up with a laptop graphic card standard called MxM, it was suppose to create a standard card size, interface for mobile graphic cards, so that they can be easily upgraded/replaced like desktop graphic card. However, not much manufacturers adopted to the standard back then, and currently, the standard is no longer free, it is controlled by MXM SIG, which is under nvidia. Only their client are allowed to use the MXM standards. MXM have 2 generations now, first generation have a few types, which are MXM I, MXM II, MXM III and MXM IV, where second gen has MXM-A and MXM-B. The different type of MXM are meant for different range of cards

If your laptop is using MXM standard, then yes, you can swap with the same type of MXM card..however, MXM cards are bloody pricey, and your heatsink might not be compatible with the graphic card you swapped. If your laptop graphic card is not MXM standard, then no, you cant change it at all

detailed MXM info here: MXM

One is for gaming, another is more geared towards Workstation programs.
However, take HD5870 instead because GPU is not very important in workstation
programs. More powerful processor and RAM will help in workstation programs.

It can handle Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Metro 2033 in 1366x768 resolution at medium settings without lagging.

Which should mean that it can handle all current gen games in the market now.

For more information, you can refer here.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

5470 = reasonable entry level notebook GPU. Can't play anything heavy on this without downning the settings of the game considerably.

intel HD3000 ? or ATI Radeon HD3000 Series? hmm.gif

Added on September 21, 2011, 5:06 pmif u mean Intel HD 3000, since B940 is a one of Sandy Bridge codenamed processors, so u can refer to this link

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Grap...00.37948.0.html

The HD Graphics 3000 has no dedicated memory so its depend (shares) on the processor Level 3 / LLC Cache with the CPU cores and also part of the main memory.

Any 'fans' of "Intel GMA 500" ? :-)

Been trying to get my Vaio P to run on the latest Intel EMGD 1.8 drivers that enables most of the GMA 500 features (HW acceleration, OpenGL 2.0 / D3D etc.).

Oddly, EMGD 1.8 drivers need to be compiled ourselves and generated for the BIOS and GPU. Need to even flash the BIOS to enable user generated version. Far too risky for me and the steps are quite confusing.

1. High End Graphics Cards
These cards offer the best 3D performance in a laptop. They can handle all the latest games at high resolutions and high detail settings. The power consumption of these GPUs is very high, therefore, only big laptops with bad battery life usually offer these cards.

These cards should be able to handle all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings. Especially demanding games may only run in low-medium detail settings. However, you can get some cards in smaller form factor laptops with good battery life.

3. Low-Midrange Graphics Cards
Low-end graphics cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with low details and mediocre resolution. The power consumption (of modern cards in this class) should lead to a good battery life.

5. Low End Graphics Cards
Only some older games can be played fluently with these graphics chips. Shared memory graphic cores in this category got the advantage of less heat production and longer battery runtimes. For office, internet, image processing, and (SD) video editing tasks these graphics chips are still useable without any restrictions.

anyone knows dell xps 1340 using geforce 9500 or 9400?
when i bought they said its 9500m but then after that i check on 'my device' it shows nvidia 9400m and geforce 210m
i know it has 2 graphic card wondering how 2 check how much virtual ram this card has.. base on what i check different source different spec some said 256 some said 512.. i check on dxdiag but then its only written total memory.. 22XXmb when high performance (running 2 cards) and 1800MB on save battery mode (one card) wondering how much is my virtual memory on my graphic cards

It depends on your 'normal' cpu. Most build in GPU like Intel is not OCable. Unless you use custom driver or hard mod it.
Run sli? Get two graphic card and a motherboard that supports sli.
If you mean laptops, then your're out of luck. You'll need to order them pre build.
Sure, there's another workaround, but your info is just to limited.

Hi all, my laptop have no graphic card, just normal intel® HD Graphics.
And only normal VGA port it has, non DVI or HDMI.

My question is, if i connect my laptop with a 24" LED monitor, will words and graphics show good?
Coz I heard some say it'll be blurry a little.

Well, if the performance is acceptable at medium settings @ 1366 x 768 then I suggest that you stick with it.
Because there isn't really much of a difference in the graphic details in Diablo III.

Just set texture quality to high, disable shadow quality and toggle your anti-aliasing for best results. Hopefully it runs at 50FPS and above.

Actually the HD 7670M is better try the HP A10 notebook. It has a 7660G+HD 7670M graphics so the performance might be equal to GT 650M at the price of RM1999. Try it!

A graphics processing unit (GPU), also occasionally called visual processing unit (VPU), is a specialized electronic circuit designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the building of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display. GPUs are used in embedded systems, mobile phones, personal computers, workstations, and game consoles.

i have a gt610m for my lappie , i felt kind of regret as i can get GT630M from buying a A45VM by asus. but i bought K45VD Blue.

Grr. But anyways may i know what is the advantage of using the GT610 ? hope is not there for display only lol. coz running HD movies using gt610 also cant run smoothly. Even the i5 3210m is running without issues sad.gif

any idea for the new generation gpus?

I see the new 8870m is out for the Samsung 7 Chronos. Just want to know if its good/worth getting. Or should wait for NVIDIA (i've always been NVIDIA supporter but want to get a laptop soon).

Any idea what will be upcoming very soon? I see some news about 780m that looks awesome but would love more feedback from more knowledgable members

How much faster is it and how is it compared to the 8870m?

Awesome  rclxms.gif Sounds like something to wait for.

How much faster is it and how is it compared to the 8870m?

Thanks!
*
Based on 3DMark11 score alone, it will be slower compare to HD8870M.

Hey.. I have a Lenovo Y500 with the Gt750m. Haven't really checked the frame rates but its superb! I've turned everything on ultra and I'm getting extremely smooth graphics/textures in Dota 2. Its a beast of a card and Lenovo has made it possible to Sli these biggrin.gif

Since power and heat is upmost important in lappies... benchmark depends really on the thermal budget and clocks speeds, throttle speeds etc are set accordingly.

As such, 2 similiarly configured systems on different notebook platform may have a bigger disparity compared to desktops lor.

Try not to do that to minimize static damage. It's not that difficult to remove the dust using a blower (like those for camera cleaning) or just use your mouth la ( don't spit on it though tongue.gif )

Hi there,
It all depends on what you are going to do whit your computer mostly. if you are planing to play games its going to be completly different if you want to used your PC as a rendering making to 3D objects.

Gigabyte GTX 750 OC 1GB-RM489 or MSI R7-260X OC 2GB-Rm 489

Both have the same performance but the MSI card has an extra 1GB vram which will help if you're playing at resolution at 1080P .

The good thing about the gtx 750 card is that its power consumption is very good.

just try my lucky for asking opinion here..

Nvidia 840M, how good its handle high setting games such as Dota2, CS:GO, Rome TW I, II.

how is the AMD Radeon R9 M280X vs Gtx 860m? i used to be AMD fans before but recently, due to unsatisfied user of GTX series and some nvdia gpu is under performance, i really have doubt with mobile gpu. since i already stick to my desktop, and mobile gpu is getting complex + i am outdated too. so far i understand that, nvdia gpu > and..

i like to consider this
Asus N551ZU-DM022H – 15.6” FHD / AMD QC FX-7600P / AMD Radeon R9 M280X
HP Pavilion 15-p036TX(Natural Silver) : 15.6” / i7-4510U / GT840M 2GB

and i saw this ATI VENUS XTX R9 M275 and AMD Radeon R9-M275.. same series, different architecture.. hmm.gif

it was said that.. ATI VENUS XTX R9 M275 = GTX850m hmm.gif

Garage sales section.. Overpriced tho. Imo just go to dealers and buy, they're not charging extortion price but high demand price. But have to see luck if stock available
