checked with Harvey Norman and SenQ and they confirmed that 78H's official launching will be in November thus 76H;s price will probably drop lower and there might be free gifts.
*
cool, did they give any indication when in november? if anyone actually bought the 78H, do take a peek at the chip inside and see if it's also a mediatek. smile.gif

i agree with you on the 76H, especially for my case. 76H is like some sorta like a stop gap measure till the dvd format wars end. once the format is decided and the dust settles a bit, it would be just nice to get a proper HD player.

now the challenge is to be patient and wait for the price to drop.

btw, does anyone know the 76h uses which version of HDMI?

i'm interested in sony N76 coz my tv maxes out at 1080i..but since the N78 cost the same...and the reviews are pretty good....it gets me thinking....76 or 78...hmmm
*
Well, you can get 76H cheaper now, around RM450 but the latest model should be around RM480 to RM490 after discount. Slightly more expensive but then, 76H's looks more pleasing to my eyes.

76H is using HDMI v1.1 and no upscaling dvd player here uses HDMI v1.3 actually, that's more for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players. You don't need HDMI v1.3 for dvd players as dvds don't can output uncompressed audio, 36-bit colour (deep colour), etc.

Huh? shocking.gif ........... What's the connection between a HD-DVD format and Sony's NS-76H dvd player? That's not a combo player my friend, it plays our regular dvds that we love until now.

Yes it can. Unless they don't want to make it backward compatible, which would be suicide for them biggrin.gif

But it's not advisable to play too much those cheap DVDs on a HD player because you never know how sensitive those HD-DVD or Blu-ray lens are.

it's just a matter of time before the pirates get their hands on blu-ray & hd-dvd and we'll see them everywhere on the streets. haha

any dvd players out there got 2 HDMI ports? 1 would connect to the tv..the other would go to the receiver/amp.

hmm..can't really picture it in my head shakehead.gif
the connection u mention above would require the amp to have at least 2 HDMI ports i suppose...

My idea of setting it up currently goes something like this:

For video out:

HD DVD Player <<<<thru HDMI>>>>
Blu Ray Player ---------------------> LCD TV
HDMI DVD Player

For audio out:

HD DVD Player <<<thru digital co-ax>>>
Blu Ray Player ---------------------> Amp/Receiver
HDMI DVD Player

My receiver does not have HDMI port. I think when I watch DVD, need to mute the TV coz the HDMI cable would be carrying audio signal too right?

Not sure what would the setup be like if my amp/receiver has HDMI ports next time

Anyone interested in a brand new LG 37" LC4R or LC7R?

LC4R Dynamic Contrast = 8,000:1, LC7R = 10,000:1

other common features:-
S-IPS panel
1366x768 resolution
5ms response,
2HDMI,
can input 1080P signal

I am getting either one the above as a replacement for a defective older model (LC2R) under warranty which LG was unable to fix.
LC4R is already available in LG Kelana Jaya office, but I am trying to push LG to give me the LC7R as replacement instead.

Anyone interested please PM me about the price smile.gif

Just received my Sony NS78 today
happy with it. smile.gif
connected via HDMI Cable which I bought from sunauto today.

I find that the front panel does not feel plastic-like as what other consumers tend to complain. It looks and feels better than my Pioneer's front which seems somewhat plastic-like.
