Seriously PS3's dvd playback is no better than XBOX 360, you can check the review here,  http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/sho...on%203%20(HDMI) and there are other reviews from other sites too, just google around.

The PS3 lens will spoil without warning. I have spoke to the joker who placed his PS3 in vertical position, he said he was watching 300 on dvd, then the next morning, it failed to read any discs including PS3 games. I guess that it's either the placement of the console or the lens of the PS3 is not reliable, which is mostly true for Sony's Playstation products, that explains why I bought a few PS1 and PS2 consoles, all of them suffered from lens problem whereas my PS3, it should be fine, there are not much games to play on it after all. Better don't take a risk to use it to watch movies when you have other better and cheaper alternatives.

Could that be an old review. I read at some forums about 2 mths back that with the release of the PS3 1.8 firmware the upscale quality and other issues of the PS3 have improved greatly.

Well, PS3 doesn't have a built in scaler, mostly are done by software. I'm not against the PS3 or anything, I own one myself, just feel that it's more suited as a gaming console that's all.

the other way to check is the tape on the box. If the unit is being repacked, there will double tape and it will be messy. Unopened unit will also have this big and thick staples on it. Opened unit will show the signs of these being removed or re-stapled.

i saw a promotion at harvey norman MV. they having a promotion on panasonic. quite tempted to get. RM5499. 42" plasma (panasonic vierra). FREE hdmi cable. 5 year warranty from panasonic. if cannot fix, one on one change. not those year by year cut % warranty. then they say the set now is assemble at sg. parts japan. the coming future set will assemble at china. so QC wise.... erm dunno la... how true is this?

the model is TH-42PV70H. maybe some sifu here can enlighten me bout this. i only use it for astro and occasionally dvd and PS lo. but mainly astro. is it advisable to get?

http://panasonic.com.sg/web/pid/3021/Spec <----- the specs

HD Models with Superb Image Quality and Easy Operation (2 HDMI terminals)

1080p Digital Processing Chip-Set/1080p Digital Re-mastering Processor
3,072 Equivalent Steps of Gradation
Max. 10,000 : 1 Contrast
VIERA Link [HDAVI Control 2]

wanna get some opinions b4 i get it. wall to my sofa is 10.5feet.

to those who have gotten their 37" LCD samsung set from MBF cc promo, can u guys pls let me know how is the performance so far? any pro n cons? i heard outside shops not selling it already. MBF took over the sets. just wanna ask is it as per expected the PQ?

LCD life span is longer (60k on-hours) while plasma is shorter but when i ask the ppl from best (klcc), they say plasma life span longer. which is true? LCD as time goes will have dead pixels no doubt but wut about plasma? burn-in? so i guess both LCD and plasma have its advantages n disadvantages....and lets say u guys have RM5k to spend, wut will u spend on? LCD or plasma? dont tell me get 32" lcd and a home theater set. LOL... just wanna know which type of tv u guys will get. accessories not included. thanks

Went to Jusco BU to check out the 42" PFL-7422 Phillips Full HD 1080 as mention by ARJ, there were huge Sony Bravia Promo and roadshows, the promoter did mention that the Phillips unit is actually manufactured in China.. After hearing this I really no mood liao, is selling for RM 6999. Any Phillips user here? Care to comment? As for the Sony Bravia KLV-40V300A locally assembled, but imported unit. Price is d same.

To quench the curiosity on MBF S8 37" TV promo, here's a view from me as the first hand owner :

As a HTPC Monitor :
This is so far the best use of this TV for me. Connected via DVI (graphic card) to HDMI (on TV) offers excellent and and flawless picture. For the past 3 months, I have been churning out those 720p HD movies, as well as those 1080p movies which will be nicely scale-down to give you good picture. This is the top notch highlight to me.

As ASTRO receiver.
No can do. Astro probably publish their signal over lower than standard resolution, probably less than 576. So nothing much to say here.

As Analog TV receiver
Not that bad for TV1 --> TV9.

So there you go. I would choose Samsung anytime over Sony, in term of LCD TV. Probably because of the price and quality.
