In the Market now available with many Branded Laminate Flooring , and nows a day many house owner decide to use Laminate Flooring.
I am the one who working in this category, anyone who got question and wish know about Laminate Flooring can put your question here and I will try my best to give you a good solution on it.

P/S: Dont ask about my website and about my company. Will counted as advertising.

At here, let me introduce some details for Laminate Flooring.

1) Top layer- Anti Abrasive Protective Overlay
In market, this layer normally is use to compare the GRADE of the Laminate Flooring.
Such like AC2, AC3, AC4, AC5
What is the different? This layer is to differentiate the level of Anti-Scratching.

2) 2nd Layer- Melamine Decoration Film
This layer is what design and what colour we looking for. So, it is pattern layer.

3) 3rd Layer- The Core (HDF- High Density Fiber board)
It is almost the heart of the Laminate Flooring

4) Bottom Layer- Balancing Sheet
This Sheet is to protect the board that wont like Real Wood will easily jump out.

In the market, all type of Laminate Flooring is combine with this 4 layer.
and also there got other spec, ex like side waxing and etc.

And accessories for laminate flooring also different~
Next I will list the accessories soon~

As i know, this 2 brand is self manufature in Malaysia, So the quality is not big different. Just Inovar laminate flooring size is bigger and just them got, because their machine is different. Actually normally all laminate flooring is same type and create from the 4 layer. So branded is just to make it cost higher.

I'm choosing between solid / timber flooring vs laminate. Halfway doing research, any reason why I should choose one over another?

Let me list some of their benefit and un for you.

Solid timber wood flooring- That look real and all pcs will different colour because its is depends on it nature colour. but it easily scratch, about 3-5 years u need to polish and reput the water oil to let it shining back. and price is expensive depends which wood u choosing.

Laminate Flooring- It design repeat but because it got a laminate and anti scratch on the top so it can have the anti scratch result. it can use about 15-20 years or longer base on the grade u choose( AC2-5). But price cheaper.

But as i know, Floor depot got a series that LAminate flooring with Real wood LAminate.. mean like 2 in 1~ Real Wood Laminate at the top, with HDF board.
it also every pcs different colour coz nature.

I was in this position a couple of years ago and chose solid timber over laminate for two reasons:

1 It looks and feels much better.
2 It is more durable. When the finish gets worn down and you get scratches etc, you can grind and refinish the whole floor a couple of times, depending on the thickness of the boards.

For me the only advantage of laminate flooring was that the prep of the subfloor was minimal and the whole process of laying the floor can take place over the course of one day. I suppose you can also replace scratched laminate boards as needed if you can find matching pieces.

Depends what branded~
such like floor depot the lower spec cos around RM4.80-5.50 include installation~
if Robina around RM6-7
and etc...
if u not choosing branded~ Rm4.50/sqft also can get..
but for skirting and profile must know how much u need~ and skirting now popular wit PVD skirting~ Last longer~
If u got ur quantity i can give u a total price for your reference also~

EDIT: Just realized I posted solid wood info on Laminate topic... TS if you want me to remove, pls let me know, otherwise I leave it here. Sorry for off topic

Just sharing some pricing on solid wood based on my research. One thing that stick out is the 20mm belian is really heavy. The rest weigh like cheap plywood in comparison. Really a lot to learn about all these different kind of wood

My house lighting = yellow
Left pic = without flash
Right pic = with flash
Hope you guys can see the difference

Thank for your question.
Laminate flooring- using HDF board and it just lay on the floor using its locking. and even your floor got uneven area, it wont effect and got the feel of "Wood flooring" when walk on it. And it can remove n reinstall to other place if future u wan to move house.

Vinyl- It is PVC, totally waterproof, but it use glue to glue on the floor, if ur floor uneven, then after install vinyl, u will saw the uneven also except u doing leveling for your floor then wont got uneven effect. and it feel harded like normal floor. because it just a thickness 2/3mm.

For living room, advisable to install Laminate Flooring if compare with vinyl.
actually Laminate flooring is more green label and more eco compare with mosac tile.

Ground floor, indoor, landed property.
As the ground floor of the landed properties exposed to water moisture, it will wet the timber woods and cause them to decay.

yaya, if i remember correctly. So called Alipapan is it? quite confusing. but its with AC4, super EO for formaldehyde emission, terminate stain resistant and 15 yrs warranty. just paid deposit still havent start doing yet, cz need to wait for my condo renovation to be finished first.
*
Hi, any reason you chose this company,
Apart from the super EO for formaldeyhyde ( health reason), any other particular reason you chose them?
Do they have guarantee for termite and water resistance?

does anyone heard of Hybrid Commercial Floor (sdn bhd)? They claimed that they are using synchrowood which has less formaldehyde with super-E0 grade...

their website is http://www.hybrid-commercialfloor.com/#home

Price wise 8mm with melamine surface cost around RM8 psf (including skirting & profiles)...

I am wondering how true is the super-E0 grade...

Has anyone installed laminate flooring on wet kitchen and wet bathroom? I was told that Floor Depot has waterproof 4G laminate flooring that are suitable for such areas.

For dry areas, FD advised 3G laminate flooring for the real veneer look.

Are 3G and 4G laminate flooring durable and safe for kids? And what is the workmanship quality for FD?

For the type of floor laminate (wet area and dry area), which other companies have such laminates?

Has anyone install IONWOOD from Suguwa? Is that a gimmick or real stuff? Any comments?

Is Floor Depot the only company with real veneer laminate in the market? Are Floor Depot's laminates graded for formaldehyde emission? Can't see to find information on these.

Also... can it directly be installed on top of parquet... I think I saw an old thread somewhere, have to remove the parquet..

where do you want to install the floor? Living hall, room, kitchen?

please check all your doors, grill, gate clearance before choosing 8 or 12mm. Installer should be able to trim the doors, but for grills they may not, then they will install it by leaving 2-3cm space before reaching the grill.

Should be ok to install on parquet, not the best though, but you can choose thicker plastic/polymer sheet to give better absorber impact. Just ensure that you have no loose parquet.

Planning to install on whole of upstairs (small hall + 3 rooms).

Grills will be brand new so will adjust based on new floor height.

Thx for the tip! Only parquet concern now. Extra cost to remove + cement screeding..

for peace of mind post installation, remove the parquet is the best way. that will eliminate termite problem too in the parquet which later will jeopardize your termite free warranty flooring by the floor vendor.

Yes you can but few things to consider. First thing is how thick the floor will be. Secondly is the risk of the tiles coming out.

for peace of mind post installation, remove the parquet is the best way. that will eliminate termite problem too in the parquet which later will jeopardize your termite free warranty flooring by the floor vendor.
*
Yup, have indeed asked the contractor to include removal of parquet.

For Merbau, RM15.90 per sq feet for 15mm.
What does 15mm refer to? Is it refer to thickness?

Yup, the thickness. The thicker the more expensive but provides more room for future (in case need to grind / refinish the wood) as advised by fellow forumer here in this thread.

Tq.

What about if the thickness is 0.75 inch(19mm), width is 3.5 inches(89mm) and length is 10 feets (3048mm), including workmanship, good quality glues and others good quality materials (e.g. sealer, anti-scratch liquid) all in all amounting to RM 28 per sq ft for Merbau wood flooring (imported from Papua New Guinae 4 years ago and stored in a warehouse), is the price reasonable?

BTW, for Merbau woods store in a warehouse for 4 years, is it still durable?

Thank for replying.

Unfortunately, I am not well-versed enough on this topic to advise but just put a few points below for consideration...

-The thickness seems non-standard (15mm, 18mm, 20+mm seems to be the common ones I found)... not sure why this is the case? Reject stock?
-Anti termite treatment included?
-Skirting included? What type of wood for skirting?
-Removal of current flooring included? - including rubbish / debris removal
-4 years, you need to know the storage condition, whether it has been exposed to humidity, etc.

Solid timber, if properly cared for and maintained, can easily last decades (quoting some website I read sometime ago)

These will affect your cost if not... for further info, I leave it to the real sifus here to help you... sorry as I am a newbie

Hi bro,

I have 12mm lamimate from floor depot to my ground floor living area and kitchen installed about 5 yrs ago. Still under warranty. But some areas peeling and damaged board due to moisture especially in kitchen near skirtings. Would you be able to do warranty repairs? Would like to have upstairs laminated as well (now parquet) at the same time.
By the way, how much is the waterproof type for kitchen psqf? If reasonable may consider to change as well. PM me ok?
Thx!

still quite cheap because the trafik series 12mm one. then include skirting and underlay.

i have narrowed down to inovar and kronoswiss for my future reno.

have you consider using a better underlay than the foam they provide? i was thinking using those pvc underlay which can buy from floordepot2u.com but cost around 0.90 per sq ft compared to foam underlay about 0.10 per sq ft. Supposed to give better/softer feel when walking on the laminates.

I would prefer without the foam like my stairs which feel much harder.
With foam, u can feel softer.

Price wise, I find Inovar is more competitive and more established brand.
Furthermore, they are near my house and therefore, easier to coordinate for them to come visit my house to ensure the flooring is good enough to start their work.

Kelvin, I have been trying to contact you for the past 1 week via whatsapp & phone. But you are simply unreachable.

Within 1 month, the laminated flooring that your guys installed have already scratches and water retention problem. Just to refresh your memory, I paid for the 6G dual side ac3 floor depot, whereby we were told that its as good as ac5 & highly scratch resistant + water proof.

I hope you can come out & sort this out.

I'm using Ekowood laminated timber flooring. I can see gaps between some pieces. Some have quite big gap. Is it normal to have gaps? And when I walk on it, got creaky sound.

Probably your floor is not that even, the difference in height is too much that the it leaves air gap under the laminated floor.

hi guys,~ it seems like the most popular laminate flooring brands ppl use on lowyat is either Robina or Innovar. Please correct me, both of this brands are Made in Malaysia?
Range of price is about 4rm-9rm/sqft for these 2 brands

How about imported laminates? anyone consider imported brands? I believe they are also roughly same price with local made laminates?

Has anyone else consider KronoSwiss? Claimed and printed Made in Switzerland.
My idea is: if its roughly same price with Robina/Innovar...u choose made in Msia or made in Swiss~?

Anyone else has such thinking?

no laminate can stay clear of termites unless is WPC. Is better u do yearly check up for termites as is not only affect ur floor it will affect your roof, furniture and all thats. and one time check is 50 bux, so is well worth it.

I have this laminated floor, can't recall what brand it is, that has been "termited". It was not supposed to, not at least for 20 years, but it was. I don't think it is WPC though.

Actually, this is located at the kitchen floor but it is not the waterproof type, There was a pipe burst and it was flooding all over the floor. I did not get it replaced for few years blush.gif and it just dried up naturally. The inter-locking design is not good that panels are not latched together properly. Once the panels expand and shrink they will leave a bit of gaps.

I'm looking for the water-proof type which I know only Floor Depot has it. I guess the termite issue most likely because of the boards were soaked with water and lost their termite-proof property. What do you think?

Looks like termites go through the concrete wall cracks and also wiring. I had those cracks around the house poured with termite poison already and also at two sockets that caused power trip. So far looks okay hmm.gif Need to check from time to time. The roof frame is metal, so not worry there.

Is not bcz the board soak inside the water then it will lose the termite proof chemical, is juz that wood is a food for termite. But before termite attack your board, they will first choose the softer wood which is skirting and ur furniture. Once around that area the softer wood is finished, termite will go for harder wood like ur Laminate floor board. If you want water proof products with wood grain design you have option like vinyl or pvc Flooring, wpc Flooring, wood design tile or solid wood. Personally I dun recommend pvc or plastic Flooring for residential use due plastic and pvc have degradation problem which cause cancer or when during fire and it got burned it will release life hazard gas.

Hi all

Need experts' advise. I've been very confused regarding the quality of laminates. One question that I would like to ask is regardless of what brand and what price and other than those plastic made laminates or vinyl, all laminates are made of wood/paper core? And such core will bloat up when it comes into contact with water? I mean I'm not sure how much water. I am just afraid that after a year I mop the floor, the laminates start to bloat. Is that true? I know flooding will definitely spoil it but mopping?

Also, is there any external liquid I can apply onto the laminate such as wax that can provide an additional layer of protection?

I would also like to ask another question regarding lamination before and after installation of built in cabinets. I currently have the laminate flooring installed. New house bought from developer. I'm curious if I can remove the laminate or cut the laminate (where it meets the built in cabinets) and replace it in the future if I already have built ins done? Are the tradesmen expert enough to do so? I'm in dilemma coz if I build in cabinets now and cannot remove flooring later means havoc and expensive. If I remove laminate now and build in cabinet then I have the laminate joint that I don't wanna see. And it's also costly to remove perfectly fine laminates since they are new.

Pls advise. Thanks

One is made by wood one is made by Pvc. Thickest vinyl I seen on market is 5mm only. The click is like 3mm, after sometimes the click will break, all in all it is jz plastic

Laminated floor made wood fiber will not get bloated just by mopping. Just make sure no water dripping from the mop. Squeeze all excess water.

No such waxing is needed. It will always be shining and not fade. The are exposed to light and part hidden under cabinet will not show any tone difference from my experience.

I laminated all the floor before I built the cabinet. My floor to ceiling cabinets are sitting on the laminated floor. That way I do not have to have any king of skirting between floor and the cabinet. Now I have my laminated floor damaged by burst water piping. The only to repair this is to cut the laminated floor right at the bottom edge of the cabinet and lay new laminated floor. At the edge there they can out plastic edging that will provide something like lining along the cabinet bottom edge.

An "ok" quality laminate flooring will warp even mop with a lot of water, under normal circumstance, a mopped floor fry within 30 mins is ok no matter how wet u mop.

Hi Guys, 1 question, normally for laninated flooring, how do you all deal with between the part infront of the toilet? Since the toilet door is prone to be wet. The laminated floor willget spoil easily right?

Will spoil. Just make sure the water from shower will not splash the the floor. Perhaps use the type that is waterproof at door entry.

Hi Guys, 1 question, normally for laninated flooring, how do you all deal with between the part infront of the toilet? Since the toilet door is prone to be wet. The laminated floor willget spoil easily right?
*
Do u know floor depot?
It got a series u can mix. This series come with same color but with waterproof and without waterproof. Mean, u can install waterproof one on part of toilet door, and other area normal.. this is the solution..

*
So you suggest pure wood laminate for raised platform in the bedroom?

From my personal point of view, I think laminate flooring can provide a house warm feel within a reasonable budget. For household, wood raised platform is more than rnough.

Hi, I'm planning to laminate my 9x10 room to make it as a home recording studio. I was quoted 7.99/sqf for wpc. Is this reasonable? But the downside is their minimum purchase is 500sqf. If anything lesser, will have to pay 300-400 for installation. Is there any other place accept purchase below 100sqf? Thanks

RM 4.99 per sf supply and install, swiss imported, certified quality (not base on salesman talk), non toxic, because the room is small, so juz light colour will do.

If you have time pls google pvc flooring advantage and disadvantage. Personally I do sell vinyl, but i dun recommend for household due to health concern and also with with 4-5mm thichkness, the click is like 3mm, it juz wont last.

Check the detail design!!! Why the design is like poping out from the floor? Bcz this is the 1st Synchronized Emboss design in Malaysia!!! Which means is like hand engrave on the wood surface

low formaldehyde claimed base what testing method? Formaldehyde got 2 world recognized standard, one is Europe E1 another is USA CARB2. Both standard is well recognized and is safe.

hi, looking for laminate skirting replacement (prefer plastic or pvc type), dun wan mdfboard type

my skirtings have been aten up by termites few months back, now after termite baiting process, it is gone (i think)

hence looking to replace damaged skirtings, basically whole 1st floor of a 24x80 house (except masterbedroom wardrobe area, as the wardrobe alrd fixed there and can be moved)

below sample pic of the type of skirting i previously have, after removing some of it, noticed the gap left on the floor is not consistent accross all places

pls suggest the many appropriate replacement and where to get those & price

suprisingly the other type of snap on low skirting was not impacted, i suspect it maybe the material is plastic, but with the gaps left on the other skirtings, not sure can buy this to replace, any advice??

hi,

i'm planning to renovate my house. estimated size would be around 1,000 sqft, excluding balcony, kitchen and bathrooms.

please quote according to the following:
- thickness 8mm (which brand do you recommend and what's the AC level?)
- need to cover the tile skirting on the walls
- single color type vs a mixture of 2 color types

optional:
- waterproof type laminates for 2 toilets (master room has a bath tub).
- sawing of each door (4 doors)

thanks.

Has anyone heard of Wudworks vinyl laminates?

Was quoted RM7.20/sqft.

Am considering vinyl cos i don't wish to hack the wall skirting and saw my doors.

Anyone tried this particular brand or vinyl at home?

is it possible to install laminate flooring without transitions like those at doorways? I don't like those raised surface. I like it all flat. Thinking about doing my first floor. Can make stair steps like those timber panels, just on the threads?

I guess floating floor boards cannot be installed without transition. It is use to hide the gap for board expansion. It also has limit on max width and length where transition has to be installed. If you want pure flat floor, then you have to use the type that is glued to the floor, either wood or vinyl type. Vinyl type nowadays has grooves and feel just like wood too.

According to standard installation procedure u need to put a transition for expansion, but if your area is not that big it is possible, it is depends on your layout. Normally condo, double storey link house can be done without tansition.

Thanks

Have to remove the tile skirting. Otherwise you have skirting on skirting. Thick and ugly. Perhaps not even same height smile.gif

Thinking of adding laminated wood flooring to my wall, hoping it would at least absorb some of the sound from my AV setup.

Question:

1) Any special preparation required for the wall? Since it's an old house that needs repainting, can I save money by not painting the wall beforehand?

2) Will I need to install the plastic mat between the wall & laminated wood?

3) How about skirting?

4) Would vinyl be a better option for walls?

5) Will I be able to hang framed pictures & paintings after installation?

Dont think painting is necessary unless you decide to expose it in future.

2) Will I need to install the plastic mat between the wall & laminated wood?
Not necessary, laminate will likely be glue down or nail on the wall. .
3) How about skirting?
you'll ve using profile at the edge instead of the 75mm wall skirting.

4) Would vinyl be a better option for walls?
Vinyl would be thinner but think it has little effect to absorb sound. laugh.gif

5) Will I be able to hang framed pictures & paintings after installation?
*
Yes possible but not recommended unless you dont mind having holes on the laminte/vinyl.

Robina timber flooring nightmares.

I thought it is easy installation.. but it is not.

Very very difficult to lock the timber floor together. Regret using this Robina timber flooring.

2 days still cannot finish intallation

So we know that laminated/vinyl can be installed on top of tiles without having to remove them first as long as they are leveled

How about the skirting? Can it be installed on tile's skirting or we have to remove the tiles first?

I don't want to remove the tile's skirting in case i want to revert to tiles back

Up to you. Another skirt on top of the other skirt makes it thick skirt. Anyway, what if the tile skirting is shorter to the laminated floor skirting? It will leave shallow groove. If the tile skirting is taller, then you'll have a stepped skirting.

It is common that the wall is not really straight. So, in most installation, the skirting is not just glued to the wall but also nailed. If the tile skirting is not removed, then the installation would be difficult.

Hi all,

Planning to do something on my parquet floor in all my bedrooms as some parquet are flipping out and it is very annoying.

Can I still do laminate floor with my furniture inside (bed, wardrobe, table)?
Need to remove parquet and install laminate or can just install on top of it?
Currently some parquet are flipping and abit scratch, other than that, no other complaint.

What r the charges and estimated time to complete?
Thanks in advance

Based on your description on your parquet condition, you can install laminate right on top of it.
Furniture needs to be placed to one side and installed section by section. .

Pm you charges and time to complete.

Hi,

I installed a laminate flooring (inovar) in less than 8 months and now I can see a lot of gaps in between the planks. Is this normal?

The gaps appear on both the long and short side of the planks.

Inovar but the sales person said it is normal since the planks will expand over time. So far the largest gap is almost 1mm but my main concern is too many gaps. I think probably around 30-40 gaps.

Im still under warranty

I don't know much about Inovar. Each piece is interlocked to each other. For me, 1mm gap is visible and not acceptable. The expansion gap is hidden under skirting at the wall about the thickness of the plank itself or 1/4". The floor panels should expand and shrink due to change of temperature day and night and should push and pull each other leaving no gap.

There are manufacturers spec for their product such as how long the laminated floor can span before needing expansion gap, which they need to use T profile. The distance is different for long and short end, like 40' for long end and 20' for short end. If not the interlocking will not work properly leaving gaps.

My floor is already 10 years and no such problem except noticeable (about 1mm) gap on small area exposed to rain all day long while I was at work because I forgot to close the window but that was 8 years ago perhaps laugh.gif . Mine is no big name local brand. I'm trying to recall the name hmm.gif

This is my experience and I don't know much about others. Perhaps anyone using Inovar can tell theirs

The first top two pictures are not acceptable for me.

The others though not that bad but it was caused by poor installation. Some cases, the plank itself defect such as it curved a bit but that is not your problem. They need to replace. In some cases, the installer did not align the plank straight thus causing a bit of gap on one end.

they came and told me that there's nothing they can do except for filling the gaps with silicone. if i insisted not to use the silicone, they will have to dismantle all the skirting and manually push the floor.

so how?

Putting silicone with affect the look of the overall flooring.
Agree with Zot, either they fly in with kungfu kick bruce.gif to slide the board back properly or hv the reinstall that portion for you.

haha...kung fu kicks seems too much of a hard work. i'll try DIY the pusher or find the fixer tool online.

i have contacted the company and they will send their manager to inspect my flooring. hopefully they can arrange better solution.

Not too hard. Just make sure your feet not too dry or no friction grip. No need hard kick. Just kick at slight angle in direction to move the board. Not really hard actually smile.gif

I always tell my clients to do a background check on who is the manufacturer of the floorboard. If they cant explain to you who is the manufacturer and where is the origin/ source of the floorboard, chances is the floorboard comes from substandard manufacturers. .

Hope it helps. .

Folks, please give some insight on the pricing.

I got quoted for RM9/sqft (installation inclusive) from Robina for lamination flooring (EL11) which includes stairs and skirting. Is it reasonable?

The product comes with AC4 which is one level lower than than the AC5. I was wondering if its durable enough for regular traffic with 3-4 people in the house.

Thanks!!

Laminated flooring normally refers to the flooring that is HDF board, clicked together to form wooden flooring lookalike.

Vinyl is like the name said is flooring made of vinyl material. Normally in office but it is also used for housing where it looks like the laminated floor above and normally advertised as waterproof flooring.

You don't get the wood feeling like the laminated floor. smile.gif

You don't get the wood feeling like the laminated floor.  smile.gif

so laminated flooring price should be higher than vinyl?

In general, yes. Vinyl you just glue to the floor. Laminated floor, they put plastic sheet, then foam to muffle sound and then laminated floor board. Laminated flooring is also called floating floor because it can be removed easily and relocate but usually people don't biggrin.gif

Not a problem. They will put end profile where the flooring meets the cabinet

Cutting the a small portion will not do anything to fire resistance, I believe, but there is regulation. You probably need to check with Bomba. Maybe they can advise you. I think it has something to do with gap around the door frame. However, in this case the gap will be closed back again by the flooring. It should be fine. The bottom side is less stringent.

Just call Bomba to get guideline.

Quality depends on the company produced, not country. Standard is set by company brand since it can be produced in any country.

Most of laminated flooring is HDF board. The base is made from mixture of wood and epoxy. the pattern you see on the top is printed and laminated. Computer generated. So, go for the warranty by the brand. The waterproof one is most likely plastic resin base.

Wow, thanks for the replies. Headache. Both products quoted around 14-15k for a 1400 sqft area. Not sure how to choose. China brand giving 25 years, Inovar 15 years. One foreign, one local.

Another reason to consider is that whether the company will be around during those period laugh.gif

Just go for the one that you think will give you better service. Basically, I would say they can last. Mine I alreadt forget the brand and it has been 10 years. After 15 years you probably want to change new one biggrin.gif

I recently replace with floor depot because it was on sales. The old one damages due to water pipe leak and flood the floor from kitchen to half the hall. Yes, even my kitchen is laminated floor and not even waterproof one smile.gif

Has anybody here taken the flooring option of laminate flooring through the builder (Preferably Henley). I'd like to know how they have held up since you've taken possession of your house. Have they started lifting and so on.

I'm not a huge fan of them, but my wife is contemplating them, so I'm trying to get some info before canning the idea smile.gif

Thanks.

Well, it is not really "hacking". When the laminated floor panel is laid on the floor, the floor height increased by 6mm for example. So, the gap between door railing and existing floor will close up.

If you have just plain plywood door inside house like this

Attached Image

they just need to remove the thin railing at the bottom. Normally can be done using screw driver and a hammer. Probably 20 min job the most. If you have solid wood door, then need to cut with circular saw, but then the installer will do laugh.gif

If you go to the shop where you buy the flooring, they can recommend for you normally. The installer usually other 3rd party.

They are made of plastic chips mostly and yes you can put in water indefinitely. Some are just vinyl based.

Some are made with wood chips mixed with plastic resin. I think this one is more expensive.

if you are referring to SPC yes they are, i just done it for my new showroom as it is a live kitchen, could get wet and oily. Based on online research they are better and affordable, market rate RM 6.5 per sqft, on sale sometimes rm 6.

Do take note, skirtking, delivery and many other things not included, so when budgeting add another 10% to it

i find this video very informative and explain well between Laminate, Vinyl & SPC

Hi need some opinion from those who have installed laminated flooring before. The installation at my staircase and the whole of upper floor is completed just now. For staircases, I only chose to install it on the treat (where we step on). There is a noticeable gap between the end of the flooring with the staircase's riser. I highlighted this issue to the salesperson. He told me it's because my riser is not 90 degrees enough and their installer did cut the flooring in a straight line. He instead asked me to get people to touch up the riser by applying ASG and paint it over. Is this a normal practice when it comes to laminated flooring on staircase?

Normally the installer just fill it with silicon glue of same color with the floor. I don't have floor board on stairs but surround the cut for the handrail anchor, they applied wood color glue matching my floor board.

Thanks for sharing your experience. For my case, every single step has a gap from one end to the other hence it will be too much silicone to apply and may affect the aesthetic look of it

You can glue a strip thick enough to cover the gap, but then if the strip is flexible, it can still show noticeable wavery. If the strip if rigid, then the strip itself showing gap laugh.gif

You have white stairs (marble?) there, I'd just fill with white silicone and will not be noticeable. Most important is your reference line is straight floor board. The problem is the edge to the wall, not same length. Need to trim to make it even. Probably need to put skirting there.

Hello, is this thread still active?

I want to ask something, i just installed the PVC Laminate Flooring, click-lock with padding.....

I have a Secretlab chair with PU casters, do they leave marks, scratches, dents, or can make the particular area where my chair move around to be white-ish due to the casters in the long run? ( color fade, loss ) ?

Anyone?

I guess it should not unless anything too abnormal happened, but this is just normal activity around the house. Even for part exposed to sun and the one didn't (even under furniture) did not show any difference after 10 years in my case. As you know mine is not PVC but the PCV one should be the same.

What is laminated board overlay is made of? I think there are several material including melamine and also PVC composition as well. I believe it depends on the manufacturer specification. Some are even tested for caster wheel like part of standard in the US.

I can tell that caster wheel is not a problem. I think melamine or PVC are almost the same in performance.

This is what I know.

the product he show is not laminate flooring, is spc flooring. spc wear layer is different from laminate flooring. laminate flooring surface contain aluminium oxide which is very tough. spc surface is jus 0.03 plastic sheet. all the flooring mean to put chair mat. all the us and europe testing method for caster is juz for short period of time not over years.

Wow. That’s expensive for vinyl flooring? I am thinking of installing laminate for bigger floor area, i guess i have to increase my budget.

This isn’t an opinion on the price btw. I don’t know market price, but i thought for RM8/sqft you can get laminate already. I guess i was wrong sweat.gif

Anyone has experience with the SPC flooring from Floor Depot? They’re doing sales about 4.5psf - is this even sales price or just normal price? Also installing over tiles on landed ground floor would it be an issue? Great if you can share you experience 🙏🏻

It should be no problem. Even better since you already have flat floor (ignoring the tile joints. Since it is not thin vinyl, you will not feel the joint lines.

I have no experience with SPC but normal laminated floor. That is very good sales price considering normal price is RM14.50

https://www.floordepot2u.com/product/lancewood/

The sales during my time was just for normal one at same price.

Floor depot uses 3rd party installers. I think the 4.5 is excluding installation. Maybe another 2k?

Without. Think they quoted 1.9 psf for installation.
How was yours so far? All good?

I was quoted RM3132.80 for 356sqft. Is the price okay?

Robina laminate nature series(8mm) + 1 layer plastic sheet + 1 layer PE foam + 4" PVC skirting + profile.

You have price in website. If you can contact or talk to shop, maybe they can give roughly the installation cost. Many just use 3rd party installer. Then you can figure the total cost.

Was that the previous picture? I was thinking of rotting but did not comment since not sure if it was something else smile.gif

The first thing that you need to do is to find out what is the cause of condensation. It looks like there is leakage somewhere. What is behind the wall? Is there bathroom?

No point to repair the flooring if the cause is not solved.

Normally before they lay the laminated floor, a plastic layer is laid and the foam sheet as sound absorber.

When I got my laminated floor replaced, the plastic was like a bit sticky and damp but that was not the under side. The flooring board was still fine.

What about the seams between the flooring plank and side cover? Mine seems to ooze water...
> is yours tile/marble?

There's a foam sheet ( white ) when i laid mine last November.... SPC on top, foam underneath only... no plastic sheet or anything....

Only rooms has this kind of problem.... Outside where Living room and dining hall is dry. no sign of water condensation...

If i slit a paper between the seams, the paper is wet.... confused.gif , I got a video recorded... to show to the Installer when he comes after MCO.

Could this be humidity that comes from subfloor ?
> My furniture ( 3 tier shelf ) most bottom part where it's kissing floor shown signs of water damage , not because of mop ( super careful when moping on not touching it ), that was before laying SPC flooring... when it was still marble floor, and that particular area always feel kind of cold to touch.

Now i drill some holes on the side cover to let it breath, hahaha.... I tried to seal it with silicone, but then the water ooze out from the plank ( near the side cover where the foam didn't cover that plank's edge near to the wall ) , is my guess...

It is still new. Mine is more than 10 years already biggrin.gif

I wonder what makes the floor wet.Like humidity high but should not cause this. Seems like that the hall or the other side of the wall is much colder all the time but hot room laugh.gif

I have no idea what cause it. Let's see what the contractor say.

I was at an expensive hotel some years ago and I love the feel of the wood floors. But I am sure it is very costly. So downscale laminated.

I have looked at a few brands. How much should I pay for 12 mm, E1, ac4 Robina which includes skirting, workmanship?

Is it worthwhile to pay extra for engineered wood? But still won't get solid wood.

On the wood feeling
Hardwood > Engineered Wood > Laminate

On scratch resistance and hardness
Laminate > Engineered Wood > Hardwood

Engineered Wood is usually real high grade wood layer on top of plywood. For me the laminated is just fine. My parent house is hardwood. So, growing on house made of wood laugh.gif Now my house is 100% laminated except for just bathroom smile.gif

This probably help.

Thank you for the video. That helps a lot. But do we have 'luxury vinyl plank' in Malaysia?

I think I'll stick to laminate. In my old place, I installed ceramic tiles thinking I could buy the place, but can't afford it. I could kick myself, should have installed laminate.

Some people like tile but I hate cold feet. Changing tile can be more expensive then just putting the laminated flooring. The waterproof one use plastic composite and will have no problem with water. I use normal laminate and once there was a leak in the kitchen and the laminated floor become swollen. Later they dried up leaving gaps and bit curvy on the edge, making it felt like real wood laugh.gif

Now got them replaced. You can check online for sales. They can be very cheap like just around RM4+ per square feet. Way cheaper than tiling the floor. Removing old tiles even as much costly. My replacement was using Floor Depot. They always have sales online laugh.gif

I recently also install SPC laminate floor on my dining hall and it's totally waterproof and termite proof. So no more worry of water spill on it anymore.

More and more of these SPC have issues. As a flooring seller myself, please check the background of your company and whether they are experienced / sourced the good factories or not. We sell SPC too.

Necroing thread because I went with a new type of 8mm laminate floor product. It was more expensive than the SPC that I was originally looking for but the core is made from charcoal fibre + bamboo fibre. So chose it because after numerous threads of seeing SPC from other users having issues a few years down the line.

The salesman guaranteed us it was waterproof and even threw in a free upgrade to EVA underlay. Had a sample soaking in water for a week to show us. Price was RM11.90/sqft but we decided on RM14.90/sqft which included the concrete leveling to be done by them. Hopefully it will last.

Remove old style parquet floor to do levelling. About 660sqft in total excluding the stairs which were RM180/step
