I'm choosing between solid / timber flooring vs laminate. Halfway doing research, any reason why I should choose one over another?

EDIT: Just realized I posted solid wood info on Laminate topic... TS if you want me to remove, pls let me know, otherwise I leave it here. Sorry for off topic Just sharing some pricing on solid wood based on my research. One thing that stick out is the 20mm belian is really heavy. The rest weigh like cheap plywood in comparison. Really a lot to learn about all these different kind of wood My house lighting = yellow Left pic = without flash Right pic = with flash Hope you guys can see the difference This post has been edited by phoenixxx: Dec 18 2015, 10:02 PM |

Is innovar 8mm laminate good enough for long term usage? Or should I go for robina or thicker.. Have some pictures, later upload
Also... can it directly be installed on top of parquet... I think I saw an old thread somewhere, have to remove the parquet.. Photos added. Price is around RM6.60 per sq ft + RM8.00 per foot run for skirting This post has been edited by phoenixxx: Feb 29 2016, 11:54 AM |

QUOTE(jack bauer @ Feb 29 2016, 03:03 PM) where do you want to install the floor? Living hall, room, kitchen? Planning to install on whole of upstairs (small hall + 3 rooms).please check all your doors, grill, gate clearance before choosing 8 or 12mm. Installer should be able to trim the doors, but for grills they may not, then they will install it by leaving 2-3cm space before reaching the grill. Should be ok to install on parquet, not the best though, but you can choose thicker plastic/polymer sheet to give better absorber impact. Just ensure that you have no loose parquet. Grills will be brand new so will adjust based on new floor height. Thx for the tip! Only parquet concern now. Extra cost to remove + cement screeding.. |

QUOTE(jack bauer @ Mar 1 2016, 09:25 AM) for peace of mind post installation, remove the parquet is the best way. that will eliminate termite problem too in the parquet which later will jeopardize your termite free warranty flooring by the floor vendor. Yup, have indeed asked the contractor to include removal of parquet. |

QUOTE(firee818 @ Mar 17 2016, 09:17 AM) Yup, the thickness. The thicker the more expensive but provides more room for future (in case need to grind / refinish the wood) as advised by fellow forumer here in this thread. |

QUOTE(firee818 @ Mar 17 2016, 09:47 AM) Tq. Unfortunately, I am not well-versed enough on this topic to advise but just put a few points below for consideration...What about if the thickness is 0.75 inch(19mm), width is 3.5 inches(89mm) and length is 10 feets (3048mm), including workmanship, good quality glues and others good quality materials (e.g. sealer, anti-scratch liquid) all in all amounting to RM 28 per sq ft for Merbau wood flooring (imported from Papua New Guinae 4 years ago and stored in a warehouse), is the price reasonable? BTW, for Merbau woods store in a warehouse for 4 years, is it still durable? Thank for replying. -The thickness seems non-standard (15mm, 18mm, 20+mm seems to be the common ones I found)... not sure why this is the case? Reject stock? -Anti termite treatment included? -Skirting included? What type of wood for skirting? -Removal of current flooring included? - including rubbish / debris removal -4 years, you need to know the storage condition, whether it has been exposed to humidity, etc. Solid timber, if properly cared for and maintained, can easily last decades (quoting some website I read sometime ago) These will affect your cost if not... for further info, I leave it to the real sifus here to help you... sorry as I am a newbie This post has been edited by phoenixxx: Mar 17 2016, 10:05 AM |
