i m looking for a CPU Cooler for my E6420

currently OC my proc (400*7@ 1.325 stock vcore) with stock HSF

idle temp remain the same like b4 OC : 39-41c
load with orthos : 65-66c (mostly at 60-61)

I am using CM Centrion 5 now with modded 1 120mm fan at 5.25" and rear 120mm exhaust fan. and also 1 custom 120mm blowhole at the top of the casing directly blow wind to the RAM.

I am thinking to get either TT Big Typhoon vx or CM GeminII.

i already owned 2 units of Silverstone FM121 so the price is Not a comparison betwen this 2 HSF anymore.

The problem i am worry about is :
1. the performance of the CM GeminII can win TTBT vx or not.
2. the CM GeminII will bend my mobo (gaygaybtye 965p ds3 rev3.3)
3. my CM C5 can fit the HSF or not coz the interior size really limited ( i got do cable management, so not becoz of the cable blocking problem, is the case abit small)

Hope anyone that have experience on this help me ya~ thx alot~

  1. can't answer --> i dunno --> have to look former user of TTBT VX or a review for comparison, but if TTBT VX still wins by 1~3 degrees better take GeminII as it can cool off chipset + RAM smile.gif
  2. i don't think GeminII will bend mobos, dunno lor, i'm using it now, no benting (at the moment sweat.gif )
    • GeminII = 175mm of Width
    • Motherboard = 244mm of Width (high-end mobo)

from the measurement itself already shown that the cooler fan be fitted...

but when we take fans into consideration there will be a problem sweat.gif

      fans on GeminII: 120mmx2 = 240mm
fan on the rear case = 25mm (thickness)

      total space taken 240mm + 25mm + 5mm(space between rear case fan & GeminII Fans) = 270mm wub.gif

from the mobo stand off (the nearest to the 5" bay): make sure no chassis component (Case Parts or 5" Device) should be present within 3cm --> Cooler's Space (270mm) minus Mobo's Stand Off (240mm)

i'm 100% sure GeminII can be fitted in CM5 if u do not have a device on the 5" Slot blocking it --> like old DVD-ROM place either on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th 5" bay slot

having used both of the cooler previously on my PD805 proc
which is o'c 3.9ghz@1.5v...i supposed they performed
quiet the same...both idle around 48' to 51'
and on load TTBTVX @ 67' and the GeminII @ 65'
the GeminII performed slightly better i think due to
the 2 X 120mm delta fans i used tongue.gif

It's simple actually.
I remembered you had tried the Hyper6+ few years back right?

Try mounting the Hyper6+ without locking the nuts at the mounting plate properly and see the temperature. wink.gif
Basically, if you don't screw the nuts tight enough (which nobody loves doing cause I actually bent my motherboard a little while using GeminII and Hyper6+ for tightening the nuts too much), the mounting mechanism will leave quite some gap between the processor and the heatsink base.

Solution? More TIM for better contact.
Tried that myself actually so I know. lol
