Hi ezzone,

I'm in the same shoe as you, migrate here for the sake of our next generation. I used to have the same job as you and I moved to aus since march. Couldn't find any job that suit my profession even I lower my expectation. End up work as a chef in a japanese restaurant otherwise wife & kids have to eat grass, get paid 18 dollar per hour and work like cow. But I'm still not yet ready to give up the migration thing. It just a matter of time I can get the job I want.

Good luck and all the best.

Just sharing.

Recently I have met many ppl who have relocated for work.
This is despite the fact that their partners live in diff states.
I think it just goes to show the state of the jobs market right now.
The right opportunity comes along, n ppl will relocate accordingly.

Hi guys, just my advise to people who's seeking job right now. Below are my tips how i landed my job and keep on going.

1) everyday apply 20 jobs. 10 must job related to your profession.
2) once sending thru, give them a buzz to confirm they receive it.
3) handing cv to their door (yes, i did it couple of times)
4) since you're from malaysia, make use of your talent! language and self-confident is the key. Don't ngong ngong sit there. Think out of the box.
5) have a can do attitude.
6) if dunno, ask.
7) no local experience, nevermind, ask for low pay. after 1 year, get back those money!
8) last but not least, think positive!

Below are my experience and those stupid people feedback from back home:-

You'll find people say...'already told u dun migrate lar, follow people leaving country for what?' ' people eat shit u also follow meh?' ' 2nd class citizen ar? aiya, stay back malaysia better!' 'u got status and job back home why u go there work like coolie?' 'no money follow people migrate, go home lar...'

well, i prove them wrong when i boarded the plane. i brought $5000 only and my brain with big mission, PREPARE A PLACE FOR MY FAMILY AND FUTURE. I prayed everyday, every night and sent 20 emails for job everyday.
Yes, 2 weeks landed with my job profession.
I left the job 1 year later to another 1. the company shut down, jump another 1. the company shut down again and i was calling back by my 1st company to join him as he was the 1st company shareholder and restructure the whole company and rejoining them again. with a pay rise and to prove my skills, will be heading china for biz trip this week.

I'm not here to show off. i wanna tell any forumers here don't get shot down by negative comments or can't get the job related profession. sometimes courier change will give u better income than ur origin profession.

I met a guy from malaysia who the he's insurance region manager and wife is accountant. they migrate here while wife found a job, hubby jobless for 5 years. hubby never give up and working thru connection to supply mining labour and service. earn big bucks wor....they live here 10 years and can bring family to europe tour. the moral is that be flexible and positive.

Hi. Thanks for sharing. Based on your ability and from what you shared, it is undeniable fact that you could have done better and climbed up the corporate ladders even faster if u were to choose settle down in Malaysia or Singapore. Apparently Aus is for retirement (for elderly) and for children who pursue secondary/tertiary education. Many Malaysians or Singaporeans who studied here prefer to go back their home country for career growth.

One example - My aunt was a Singaporean (now Australian) migrated to Sydney in 1993, gave birth to my cousin in 1994. 21 years later in 2015 - my cousin decided to leave Sydney and go back to Singapore cause he said Aus is too slow pace and not good for career progression. What my aunt thought it was good for family and future, it doesn't mean her future generations would like it. How would one define work-life balance? If you can accept that work in Aus is just a JOB then here is very suitable for you. If you wish to have CAREER and thereafter good life - think twice. Chinese saying - "Xian ku hou tian, or Xian tian hou ku". Well- not that bad, in Aus, you wont be "ku", probably you may just end up a boring/meaningless life (unless you are super family oriented, i.e all your family members - parents, sisters, children are here)

Conclusion is that, choose the place that you feel happy the most and you wont regret, don't think about future generations. Everyone dream of going overseas, but not everyone suitable for migration. If my dad were to migrate to Singapore/Australia when he was young, I would probably blame him for why brought me up in such a high cost of living country and eventually I will look for my own alternative.

No offend to you my dear friend, I'm sure you are a good husband and a father, and inspired most of the people here.

I find this interesting . Weighing the pro and cons i don't regret my decision. My ex work place in Kl , i dont want to sound racist or anything but it will come out that way.

I was a senior position unfortunately i couldn't see any further growth. One i was the wrong colour, 2nd people got promoted or were preferred based along religion not merit.

i foresee in 10 years Malaysia companies will be predominantly one race and the others indians and chinese will have a smaller chunk of the economy or almost shut out.

Malaysia is no singapore.

My daughter had to go to international school , why cause malaysian gov refused to give her citizenship although both parents malaysians ! go figure (She was born in the US so when we returned to malaysia she had to travel on a Us passport) Shes 13 now I had applied for citizenship then Pr and have been waiting for 13 years. Bangla Indon easily can get.

I pay taxes highest percentage and i have no clue where it goes neither do i benefit.

In aussie - daughter goes to a great school , having a blast, her achievements recognized based on merit

I have a similar job although lower in rank but i make twice as much so im happy

My wife is happy at her work place.

Yes we pay high taxes but what we get in return is so much more , My wife recently had a procedure done best doctors best facilities cost us almost zero,

We dont worry about security too much, kid walk to school , weekends were busy with sports, beach etc.

Dont get me wrong I love Malaysia it will always be home but i wished It loved me back equally.

FYI, i worked in KL for 13 years involving landmark buildings in city centre. I worked along with Tan Sri back home (i dun wanna name him coz everyone knew him....). If you talk about career, i won't choose Malaysia coz there's a limit. Year 2008 i was offered a job in Dubai, Singapore and China. The pay is USD15k those days with 6 years working experience. I was so eager to accept the job as the company is UK based company. However i turned it down due to some family commitment.
Following the 13 years in coorperate company, seen company politics fighting and watever u name it, it's way enough for me. I even thought of going back my hometown to start up my biz.
I'm not rich, i only got brain and to prove my talent, i only use $5k to settle down here. I didn't sell anything back home (selling my furniture of course...& some are free to close friends)

Australia is a great place for you to spend time with your family. I manage to send kids to school before work and pick them up from day care at 530pm everyday. I manage to spend time with them reading books before they sleep. I even cook their 3 meals everyday with my wife and having family time on saturday and sunday to playground and cycling. I always tell my wife seems like i'm still in my dream and ask my wife to slap me harder!

When we're in KL, i always leave home at 7am while my kids has to be in school before 8am. Worked OT everynight till 9pm. My wife pick up kids at 730pm from daycare. We never really sit down together for dinner during weekdays. Terrorise with traffic and road rage. My wife worked in the bank and worked hard even when she's pregnant till 12 pm midnite.
What's the point of going so fast when u missed the point and every second with your family?

Now question is, which lifestyle do u want?

Well, we're almost at the same career category though. I'm in construction industry as consultants. Watching SP Setia, took over by bumi.....well, ya know what's going on there.
I've the same opinion as yours that in 10 years, there'll be more companies will be turnover into.....well...

I think put it this way, Australia is a stage where your kids will be noticed or have an opportunities to shine much more where they don't have to struggle to get not just education but talents to the world.
My friend's son who just graduated last year from UWA got and worked in Poland. Another one with Master in Mathematics, moved to Germany worked as lecturer last year. They're from Kuching

Migration is not an easy and cheap thing.
I believe ppl who decided to migrate will definitely weight the pros and cons themselves and have their own reason and not just bcoz the grass is always greener overseas.

Just like me...Give up my friends and career in Msia, migrated here and still job hunting.
Ex manager keep asking me to go back, dont waste time unemployed and shes keeping me a position. But i have no regret for the decision i made...At least so far not regret yet...lol... tongue.gif

I agree, it's a personal choice and even then, situations can change to the point where migration doesn't even make sense anymore. I've had friends who've left Australia after living & working there for several years. I personally may let go of my 175 as well, happy with my work life balance and not willing to face the big financial loss.

Dun listen to him..he got some butt hurt disease when people talk abt australia. If he so success why he gotta post abt negative comments. I got a fren who is director...people criticize live in msia..but my fren not butthurt bcause he enjoy life here with his family n kids.

Only people who r missing something n struggling in oz get butthurt when they see wat term as negative comments.

My cousin sis do so well in oz when people criticize life there she just senyap senyap bcause she doing well with aussie husband n career. Whereas my cousin bro in oz who has engineering degree work as office boy easily get mad n tell people how success he is when he hear people criticuze migration in oz...he rage.

Mate, we are matured enough to analyse all info available and determine what is suitable/not for yourself. Also remember, the rule to land in OZ is freedom for speech, it shows your immaturity by just attacking my personal sharing. Further, I don't think I'm that influencing that can affect the forumers here, when almost 90% of you guys are so determined to come over here.

I just speak from my point of view. I never deny that life here is bad. Everything else is good, just don't suit my career progress. I still have the "determination" to climb up the corporate ladder at my age, perhaps 10 yrs down the road I will appreciate what I did in the past. I do encourage people here to think twice whether to come here now or later. I didn't ask forumers not to step in at all. Afterall, this is personal choice which I cant control.

I'm not a success person YET, but Im doing good. Life here is easy. Work also easy. I don't have to put too much efforts here also can get things done. Anyway, I just wanna to give different perspective. That's all.

I'm in Perth and looking for accounts related job...
But was told that Perth is kinda quiet at the moment.
So just apply for everything...even apply for cleaner but they still have better candidates...lolx...
