What is the usual increment for the second year (you come in as a fresh graduate in Year 1 and do an OK job)? Curious about this. Starting salary average for corporate Malaysia at RM3k.

QUOTE(NowLat.yet @ Nov 16 2017, 01:45 PM) Haha... Annual Wage Supplement a.k.a 13th month bonus..Well some may say it's not a bonus since we are working for 52 weeks a year where each month we are get paid on 4 weeks basis.. So 52-(12*4) = 4 ( this is where the bonus come ) |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Nov 14 2017, 11:34 PM) I can assure you, if you're not half bad you can get 15k in less than 8 years. The basic starting pay for a fresh graduate these days is around 3k. Total paper increments alone, which are guaranteed, are about 6k (varies by company of course, but that's about the average). That's already 9k without factoring in yearly increments and promotions. Jeez, if you have already earned the FSA/FIA title then I guess you deserve such a high pay, regardless of years of experience. Those exams are tough as hell. I guess people do come across with a few actuaries who are already a fellow or close to earning it under 30 years old. Such high achievers. The appointed actuary role is becoming less glamorous though, mostly through BNM's regulations which aim to limit the influence of AAs on the running of a company (for example pricing of products), and shifts the focus of the role to one that is more independent from the rest of the functions to maintain the integrity when setting actuarial assumptions and the likes. I've already seen a few AAs in the industry move on the other roles (Chief actuary, CFO, etc) in light of these changes. I'm sure AAs are still paid quite highly though, although not as high as a chief actuary. |

Freelanced as an econometrician and data scientist (my client was a banker and needed assistance with a project involving high dimensional economic and financial data) in addition to conducting interviews for Cambridge and Oxford University in Economics.
Income was let's say, enough. Not consistent though, partially because it's not easy to get clients(People don't apply to Oxbridge every month), and now I'm officially looking for more quant/statistical work - Get the sense that I won't be satisfied in a typical 9-5 though, so let's see what will happen. Experience: A few internships in management consulting, human rights etc, many years of teaching and consulting. Industry: Finance, education Tenure: One month so far. Qualifications: Economics BA, full scholarship. |

QUOTE(yunodie @ Nov 27 2017, 10:56 AM) Any other benefits for working long hours? A typical day of an EY auditor is 9.30am to 10pm 5 days week from what I have observed. Well during busy period that would be the case, and some times even later. The market's usual practice is to convert OT hours into time-off aka "leave". So instead of receiving money, quite a lot of us as youngsters enjoy the opportunity to take like 1 to 2 months off, for a long vacation. Mileage and parking claims are dependent on the engagement's budget thou. Apart from that, as an associate, nope not much benefits. |
