QUOTE(yunodie @ Nov 27 2017, 10:56 AM) Any other benefits for working long hours? A typical day of an EY auditor is 9.30am to 10pm 5 days week from what I have observed. Well during busy period that would be the case, and some times even later. The market's usual practice is to convert OT hours into time-off aka "leave". So instead of receiving money, quite a lot of us as youngsters enjoy the opportunity to take like 1 to 2 months off, for a long vacation. Mileage and parking claims are dependent on the engagement's budget thou. Apart from that, as an associate, nope not much benefits.

QUOTE(yunodie @ Nov 28 2017, 12:56 AM) Taking 1-2 months off consecutively is career suicide, no matter how the management preach for work life balance. I beg to differ. It is not. We have this period called "off-peak" when there are not many engagements available but too many idle staff. It is better for the company to let you clear your leaves during such period, rather than allowing you to go off during the peak. Plus in my opinion, my life don't just revolve around my career. I want sufficient time to slow down and see the world. We had been working consistently through the nights, at times even until 3-4am (and I'm not exaggerating), I think we deserve the long break. But of course, things are different when you slowly climb up the ladder until when you're an audit manager - which it is more difficult to get a long leave due to clients commitment.
