now i know why people say "buy a rolex to impress others, buy a seiko to impress yourself"

i owned the mm300 (SLA021) and a month later i bought a submariner (T<25)

granted the sub was an old watch circa 90's, i also did try on the latest sub-c  (114060) and i am actually amazed by how solid and premium the mm300 feels compared to the sub.

lol to my naked eye it looks good... no need zoom in to see its imperfections

after wearing both for a week.. both also got its pros and cons..

sub is light, wrist wont so tired

mm300 is solid, can feel the weight of the watch, sometimes feel more premium, but after whole day wrist abit tired.

I bought the mini turtle about a month ago.

I have, just like everyone, an admiration for GS's finishing, but I downloaded thenakedwatchmaker's pdf on disassembly of the GS hi beat movement and it shows a movement with no finishing beyond the visible areas. It's almost as unfinished as a 4R movement, except for the bit of striping on the visible areas. They invested their finishing hours on the parts that matter: the dial, hands and case. Maybe not the seconds hand. A little bit of a letdown. At least with Rolex, the movement is finished in the Swiss practice for premium class watches, but not high horology. With Rolex, every part even if not visible, looks good. With GS, the moment you look beyond the obvious areas, you see no finishing at all.

I think its lack of commercial success is due to size. Small watches don't sell currently.

Oh yes, I don't think the SKX will win specs contest.

Just like the article said, many just don't see the mini turtle as a big upgrade over the SKX thus they lose a chunk of audience there, and many still recommend the cheaper SKX over the mini turtle for those that is on the fence thus they lose another chunk of buyers there.

Not to mention the cyclops was a big divisive factor back then amongst the community which won the mini turtle no favours.

So this is what talk of the skx being discontinued is all about! All those traders who have been stockpiling skxs will now see the value of those watches DROP.

They don't want you to buy Seiko diver for 800, they want you to buy a Seiko diver for 3k.

People who actually need 200m diving watch but only wiilling to spend no more than rm800 for it are few and far between, nor is that a market Seiko wants.

Considering the amount of 'homage' micro brand vomit out every week but no issue clearing 2k for it, Seiko is leaving a lot of money on the table.

SKX is I think one of the last line that have not been X'ed, so it's ripe time for it.

People who buy SKX is likely be okay with the 5 but looks like a diver anyway.

The turtle comes in so many variants that I have difficulty picking one. I lean towards this variant, but the others are great too.

true.. seems a bit awkward for smaller wrist size.
