Different DVI input? You mean there are no extra 4 pins on the left?

Turn off the monitor.

Press the Menu and + buttons simultaneously and without letting go, press the Power button.

Once the display is switched on, let go of all three buttons and press the - button to see the service menu.

Check the top line of the service menu. Mine reads (V1B18 RT803) which is a S-IPS panel. I got my 2007WFP today so yours should be the same as well.

S-IPS is better in almost everyway except for black levels, also S-IPS is also known as expensive panel tongue.gif

lemme see...

S-IPS has no color shifting when ur viewing at horizontal and/or vertical
S-IPS has insane view angle
S-IPS has better color reporduction

S-PVA has good black levels
S-PVA is slightly faster response time (that is usually the case..not sure with dell tongue.gif)

But nowadays most of the LCD is TN panel due to cost wise. TN panel is cheaper which make it more easy to sell and faster response time make people feel better(psycological). That's why most computer shops stock TN panel rather than other.

I like S-IPS panel due to much better viewing angle but it is more expensive which make it not favourable for shop to sell.

4 pins are for analog signal.. which is carried by the graphic card (dvi-i) and the monitor's dvi input (dvi-d) is only for digital... therefore do not require the extra 4 pins..

Therefore getting a 24 pin dual link-dvi or 18pin single link-dvi (recomended and cheaper) cable for your monitor will do...

presently i am using my lcd samsung 932b vga port for computer, so got a extra DVI port, so i thought of using it for my DVD player to hook up with the lcd( DVD player - it's comes with a video VGA output ) so no need to switch on the computer or plug in and out the vga cable, i was looking for a DVI to VGA adaptor, but the adaptor on the DVI side got this extra 4 pin , but my lcd DVI port didn't have the extra four holes, so i was thinking of using some tools to take out the 4 pins from the adaptor? can work ?

cannot shakehead.gif ... DVI is digital...vga is analog... your dvi input on your monitor handles digital only... I suggest you use sl-dvi (pure digital ... not vga cable with a dvi-i to vga adapter)cable to connect to your computer .... and the vga input to your dvd player...

That is assuming that you have a discret vga graphic card with dvi output... If not you have to purchase a vga switch (RM 15 or so ...cheapest, manual) to switch between your vga source...

dvi-i to vga adapter is purely a analog signal cabling by pass adapter.. by routing the 4 pins and utilizing some of the other dvi pins to pass on the analog vga signal...it does not magically convert analog to digital signal.
U can say the extra 4 pins is security feature to stop uninformed user like you from inserting an analog signal to the dvi-d port on the monitor which may damage your monitor.
