142 accounted Live subscribers (based on PJ's sig), that's not counting those who don't report in here.

Those of you who plan to write to the Major, please do so in calm, adult manner.

Anyway still early days. The original report is in German. The only sort of confirmation we have is they're blocking downloads from IPs not originating from the region the marketplace content is meant for.

Cool down and wait for any sort of official news first.

The report was in another language and we all know how the translator bots are.

The update already mentioned that people from MS say there's something about content showing up in the wrong regions and thus users are not able to download so let's just wait and see first.

Another question....hypothetical of course...but how would microsoft know it was a fake account? What if I used a legitimate address like my sisters in the states....i mean theoretically it would just mean that i registered my xbox in the states but moved to malaysia? Note: this applies to only a legitimate address.

When u logged on to the internet you're assigned a specific ip address kinda like a "postcode" and base on this "postcode' they'll know the country of origin. Try this! This are the reason u cant saw free TV shows broadcast online like from CBS, NBC a day after their showing on local US tv.

QUOTE(DjiNn @ Nov 28 2006, 01:33 PM)
hm~ if is a region lock with IP then ok la~. but as you know~ IP can be filter or "exchange" right ?
*
I dont think so. We get out IP address from ISP.

Reading the article even further if you follow the link to xboxic....it seems that only if you want to download additional content (demos, videos, and so on) then your account might be deleted...but it doesnt affect regular updates, co-op or multiplayer.

hmm from what i understand..the main issue here is just the regional downloads thingy. as usual, the very selfish americans started up the video marketplace and we all know what happens when we deal with the showbusiness industry. we have all that regional agreements thingy and bla bla bla.

so now, i truly believe that our multiple accounts won't be 'banned' or 'deleted' per se. we'll just have problems downloading stuff from other regions. specifically (and this is where i pray continuously; praying that it's ONLY) movies and videos which were newly introduced. so for accounts with SG addresses, we'll probably be safe since a) asian regions have no video on demand yet and b) if MS has a heart, our IP is categorized under Asian/SG. Dunno bout that last one though.

All i'm hoping and praying now is that this only affects regional copyrighted stuff, mainly the videos/movies (which are the main thing thats causing the fuss right now), but doesn't affect other downloads such as XBLA, demos, or anything other than videos/movies.

if above is true, then i'm cool with not getting to download movies on american MP. their loss anyway. it's not like we're not paying it if we download it. they do this to us, we still have a free alternative anyway to get those movies and watch it via MCE. right guys? tongue.gif

so there; just don't BAN or DELETE the accounts, ONLY block videos/movie downloads and i think we should be doing just fine.

even if MS wants to say m'sia has a high rate of piracy, so no LIVE for us - it's just not fair. After the Fall update we should all know it's risky to have a modded console entering LIVE anyway. So, pirates = no LIVE = no downloads. Only the originals get the full LIVE features, just like it was meant to be. So, why the fuss? U were already on the right track MS so please stay that way.

They basically say we are too few to bother, i mean very few of us have all original games. i personally for one switched 100% from jacksparrow to original games once i got my 360 and it was primarily for Xbox Live feature. I have a few things I can say:

If they are going to shut down "false" accounts for downloading content, thats fine. I mean they should do this after a grace period of not logging in through Xbox.com AND the Xbox 360 console for a period of 21-30 days. And if you are away for longer periods than that you can set the console on holiday mode so that MS know you are away and don't accidently shutdown your account. I think that is a better solution than forcing people through IP addresses and forcibly shutting their accounts down. In real terms, that could be considered stealing i.e. getting paid for goods but refusing to deliver them.

Them shutting down the fake accounts is due to the deals that they made with the production studios and stuff over the rights of the digital content. Otherwise I think that these firms would not sign contracts with them because they feel that their content would be taken maliciously without the intent of paying for it. aka piracy.

As a Malaysian Xbox Live gamer, I strongly feel that even if we don't get benefits of content, such as movies, trailers, TV shows etc, that would be fine as long as we were allowed to use the Xbox Live gaming service, as in play games online and chat with friends, download game updates etc etc. I'm sure that not only myself wouldn't mind paying slightly more for xbox live so that we could have Malaysia as a locale and not have our accounts terminated. I am trying not to jump to conclusions that they are going to close accounts based on IP and mismatched addresses. This is because wouldn't that be an invasion of people's privacy by finding out IP addresses from internet ISPs?

As a solution, I think that MS should just make Malaysia a locale on Xbox Live, even if we don't have our own servers set up in the country and use those that are Singapore based, that would be fine. Even if the services such as downloading full movies and TV shows are removed, that's OK if they wish to maintain contracts overseas. However, need to attempt to make all game content available in all regions, unless for political reasons or law that this cannot be done so.

We just want our Xbox Live. We have grown accustomed to it being with us, we do not want to give it up! biggrin.gif

Just my thoughts. and ramblings... No I do not have a blog. LOL

Well said Keantan ... we have to voice out our opinion to MS here in Malaysia that there is a Xbox Live Community here in Malaysia. I believe MS Malaysia does not even know whether we have a players playing on Xbox Live, most of them will be thinking that we are playing "jack sparrow's games". If we want official Xbox Live in Malaysia .. all of us have to voice out.

This kinda thread is certainly a good bump for the traffic in xbox section tongue.gif

Chill people, it's very unlikely microsoft gona delete account. They are more likely to change your region, then say...delete the whole account. It just doesn't make sense for their business portfolio.

No Live, No people buy games for Live = no revenue.

It doesn't really work if a small group of people (yes even 200 is just small) just decides to flood MS Malaysia with calls for the Xbox 360 to be launched here. A lot of planning and preparation is required before something like that can be done.

Just keep playing, the Live servers keep track of everyone that connects, they KNOW Malaysian IPs are connecting to the servers. Check out this article (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/trixie/xboxundercover/xboxundercover-xoc.htm) Check out the entry for 10:30PM, so... Let's just act civil and not give them a reason to take away our fun. wink.gif

Who knows... maybe some day new gamers will be able to select Malaysia as their region?

I agree, lets not say anything till anything happens, because what was said could just be rumours and MS aren't going to shut down accounts like ours (download accounts yes I can fully understand because it doesnt look good with copyright and rights protection). Hopefully MS will see that as Malaysians who are honourable and support original games as well as their developers through buying original games that they leave us alone, because let's face it. We are putting money in their pockets no matter whichever way. We still all pay for the Xbox Live Gold subscription and thats helping their cause too, whatever that may be (probably profit knowing MS). It's not like we are using Xbox live to sell pron or illegal software or anything nasty and forbidden. We are totally legit and hopefully they will recognise that and allow us to continue to benefit from the great service that they provide biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
