30k from the original plan plus the 18 month interest 3.25+4%.

I don't wanna lock down too long this time. Really sucks not being flexible.

I think I'm going for shorter lock down periods.

hi, in my opinion maybank 12 month 4.5% should be remove from this thread.
although u stated tat it's not protected by pidm, but it's still misleading.
since Maybank used the work Term Fund Investment Product instead of Term Deposit which already mean tat it's just does not belong to this thread.
just my opinion

Actually it's partially bank's fault that they are looking desperately looking for deposits.

If they didn't renew FD at board rates, but instead renew at promo rates, I wonder how many people will uplift and run away with their money to another bank? hmm.gif

I bet is lesser unless the other bank rates really good.

Actually, there are lots of people who just leave their money in FD and don't bother or do not have the time to go check on them most of the time. just let them roll over. I can count many among people I know. Of course, we have the other category of depositors (eg readers of this thread) who play the game of musical chair.

So bank strategy - renew at board rate for 1 category and promo rate for musical chair players.

True. Cause I saw some Unker and aunties before asking HLB for Fd and agree to put at miserable rates. I was withdrawing my money that time to put at affin FD. Lol. Was thinking of telling them why stay with kiamsap bank when other bank give better rates. Didn't bother as might cause problem with bank people.

But imagine people like Unker goat. If they give him promo rate at 4.35% promo rate, I don't think he is moving. By not moving, Banks don't need to find new funds for the 6-digit amount. Well unless he is moving for "eye exercise" tongue.gif

Uncle, student or HNWS, whatever ! tongue.gif

I think your thinking is too simplistic : Don't give free money to the banks !

Why humans are different ? A lot of individuality in us ! There are even people having FD's in CB which gives board rates and staying happily as their PB, uncles and aunties. Different reasons that people use a particular bank. Don't second guess if I will stay with HL if they offer me 4.35%. vmad.gif You are NOT me ! brows.gif tongue.gif

Some of the forummers have gave their opinions on this topic, learn from it !

You can shout about your slogan, but others may do differently ! biggrin.gif

yea, service from the bank is important and not everyone have the time to go to different banks to place their deposit under promotional rate.

p/s: Maybe he should change his slogan from "don't give free money to the banks" to "maximize the interest earned from your fixed deposit?" in my opinion, that sounds better tongue.gif

Maybe those who are not LYN member? tongue.gif Well I can think of only 2 reasons
a) lazy to go chasing FD promos (too rich)
b) lazy to move money around (too troublesome for them)

Well their loss. There are PB. I haven't counted the ordinary folks like the Unker and aunties I saw. Imagine how much free money the banks are earning. shocking.gif

Unker just using you as Eg. Don't get angry la. biggrin.gif what I am saying is Eg people who put 6 digit FD, by the banks renewing at promo rates rather than board rates, lesser chance people will move their money. Hence they don't need to offer promo every now and then.

Some amount may not significant to justify to shift it around.
Eg.
Board rate 3.3%, promotion rate 4%.

If a depositor only has 10K, might as well renewed at board rate if not convenience and no time to do it at bank.

10K only extra RM70 pa., taking an unpaid leave, time wasted, petrol and toll fee incurred, may already cost such a money already. So, in this situation, there is little advantage for them to purpose shift the money around.

A lower renewal at board rate will always at the bank advantage.

But as compared it is miles better than saving/current account that carry little or virtually none interest, which consist of no less than 20% of the bank total deposit.

You cannot squeeze every drop out of it, money cannot buy time and convenience, while for some sleeping well at night with deposit at certain bank they preferred or feel confidence.

I once get annoy with a bank that need me to queue more than 40 min and almost took an hour (despite only got a few customers) to complete deposit a FD, while from time to time always got "offline" troublesome issue on their computer front, whereby certain transaction cannot be done due to offline status.
Since then I never go back to the bank, disregard what its promotion rate

Promptly done and efficient service can be another crucial factor for customer as well.

You are right! biggrin.gif I would have done the same thing with you.

Usually if the rate doesn't differs much, I would prefer banks which are nearer to me or those having weekend banking. tongue.gif

Besides, I love banks who can act fast when it comes to account opening.
