what is the minimum amount to get 4.35%?

Not too sure, but probably around 6 figures (the one I placed). You can always ask CIMB branch if they accept lower. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(??!! @ Nov 2 2015, 10:24 PM)
Sorry I wasn't very clear.

Previously, banks used to give away really nice gifts when you join their PB programme. Welcome gift, and during birthdays and beginning of the year. In between, they will give you small, random gifts like those passport covers.
What i meant as mentioned earlier , was not receiving the PB gift like those nice proper welcome gifts.

Those random gifts , some with "Preferred" printed on them were also given away sometimes to corporate clients and also  during their PR events. These i received during times when I was not PB . (Like you, I was in and out of PB over time)
*
Some of the PB centre claimed that BNM do not allow gifts as such. But I ended up got gold plated plaque from UOB. Have shown it before.

The best one I got is from Citibank of imported Swiss watch.

Anyway most of the time the gifts are not very useful, like the chopstick and rice bowl from HL (which I also shown recently). biggrin.gif

Agree. Some are real plain ugly too  sad.gif

The most memorable one for me is the Swiss watch from CB. Next the gold plated plaque from UOB. CB also used to send gift for birthdays (tea packs, vouchers etc) but have stopped the practice years ago. Could be due to some directives from BNM also economic conditions. biggrin.gif

Called OCBC PB line to enquire about their FD rate. My RM is away so have to call OCBC PB centre. They asked for my name to verify that I am a PB member before giving me the rate, instructions from above. doh.gif Yesterday in UOB PB centre people just call in and the lady just gave them the promo rate without asking for PB membership confirmation ! shakehead.gif Waste of their (OCBC) time and mine. doh.gif

Anyway OCBC rate still as reported earlier 13 mth 4.2%, though their rival UOB has up'ed the game to 12 mth 4.25%. biggrin.gif

Not to mention CIMB 4.3% to 4.35%. thumbup.gif

OK, another FD musical chair today.

In HL to uplift FD. Per BC is RM0.70 for PB member (normal customer RM6). They thought I am coming back to place as fresh fund and said no need to do that. But I told them moving to CIMB for 4.35% vs HL 4.2%. But their current promotion is Islamic FD and for HL FD effective date is 2 days later. I kena that last year !

Went over to CIMB to place another 4.35% FD, already called RM to get approval before I went. So actually it has both conventional and Islamic. Since yesterday I placed for conventional today asked them to go for Islamic (for PIDM protection, hehe tongue.gif ).

Actually there is monthly interest for this FD. Yesterday did not know that. Later after some confusion on CIMB part, the conventional no monthly interest. If I want to cancel, will lose 2 days interest for the BC to clear. Anyway, stayput. So the Islamic one has monthly interest. rclxms.gif

NO flyer for this one !!!

Officially CIMB only has 2 FD promotion:

1. Min 100k, 3 month FD, but monthly 3.7% annual interest (in case somebody ask monthy 3.7% tongue.gif ) but looks like it is monthly cycle 3 times, so 3 mth FD

2. For PB members only, 6 mth FD, 4% interest but 2 cycles of 3 mth, min 1k only !

So the 4.2, 4.3 or 4,35% one has to ask to get it !! No official flyer on it !!

Correction to my post yesterday, the unfixed FD can terminate on 1k portions, not 10k portions.

Thanks to @familyfirst and rich @poor man ( tongue.gif ) that I came to know about this. Initially was sceptical even when they showed the fd slip.

Attaching the CIMB FD slip which some may say not genuine, but it is just a portion of it hiding other details of the FD:

Thats why it benefits all to share the info. Like UOB now 4.25% vs OCBC 4.2% and CIMB 4.3/4.35%, this will put pressure on the banks to increase their rates. rclxms.gif biggrin.gif

True. Cause I saw some Unker and aunties before asking HLB for Fd and agree to put at miserable rates. I was withdrawing my money that time to put at affin FD. Lol. Was thinking of telling them why stay with kiamsap bank when other bank give better rates. Didn't bother as might cause problem with bank people.

But imagine people like Unker goat. If they give him promo rate at 4.35% promo rate, I don't think he is moving. By not moving, Banks don't need to find new funds for the 6-digit amount. Well unless he is moving for "eye exercise" tongue.gif
*
Uncle, student or HNWS, whatever ! tongue.gif

I think your thinking is too simplistic : Don't give free money to the banks !

Why humans are different ? A lot of individuality in us ! There are even people having FD's in CB which gives board rates and staying happily as their PB, uncles and aunties. Different reasons that people use a particular bank. Don't second guess if I will stay with HL if they offer me 4.35%. vmad.gif You are NOT me ! brows.gif tongue.gif

Some of the forummers have gave their opinions on this topic, learn from it !

You can shout about your slogan, but others may do differently ! biggrin.gif

yea, service from the bank is important and not everyone have the time to go to different banks to place their deposit under promotional rate.

p/s: Maybe he should change his slogan from "don't give free money to the banks" to "maximize the interest earned from your fixed deposit?"  in my opinion, that sounds better tongue.gif

I actually added 2 more sentences in my earlier post, you may have missed it:

"maximize the interest earned from your fixed deposit?" sound more mature and more grown up !

Maybe those who are not LYN member? tongue.gif Well I can think of only 2 reasons
a) lazy to go chasing FD promos (too rich)
b) lazy to move money around  (too troublesome for them)

Well their loss. There are PB. I haven't counted the ordinary folks like the Unker and aunties I saw. Imagine how much free money the banks are earning. shocking.gif

Last month I have one FD in BR that matured. I let it renewed to their board rate. Anyway their board rate of 4.1% is already not bad for 1 yr. Petrol, time are factors to consider. biggrin.gif

Though one bank may have the highest rate, still I would not put all eggs in one bank. I spread out my eggs at different tenure and diff banks. MBB GIA-i 4.5%, MBSB 18 mth 4.5%, AmBank 2 yrs 4.6%, 6 mth 4.25% with 20" trolley bag, 5 yrs 4.55%, HL 15 mth 4.26%, CIMB 12 mth 4.35%, CB 1 and 3 mths at board rate, I have them all. biggrin.gif Of course also due to the facts that FD mature at diff dates but some of the above are in the same month.

Well, we are all human. rclxms.gif tongue.gif

3) As for UOB, once again if you are new to this thread and my blog, UOB have this thing called "Retention FD rates" where they will offer you slightly lower interest rates compared to their current FD Promo. Therefore, also saves one the time to transfer money here and there. However, in order to be eligible for the "Retention Rates" - make sure you talk to your RM before the FD matures and not after and ask him/her to backdate. This ""Retention FD rates" is good for me as I can give my RM instructions to renew my maturing FD before I fly off.

*
UOB offered 4.1% for matured FD which my relative did not accept. Myself also pulled out the matured FD and went for CIMB 12 month 4.35%. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(michaelho @ Nov 4 2015, 06:36 PM)
2) Boss, why 4.2% 12 months in Affin when you can get 4.5% for 12 months in Ambank?
*
AmBank have 2 years 4.6% and 6 months 4.25% FD promo. No 12 months 4.5%. hmm.gif
