Errr, bro, not exactly the cheapest way,... you need to have USD2000 sitting inside the USD FCY Savers Account, in order not to incur the fall below fee,... unless,...you have a tactic,...

Sifu,

I park my fund in esaver savings and transfer to Sgd settlement acc. When I wish to buy usd shares, I transfer frm Sg settlement acc to USD settlement acc. Should I sign up USD FCY savers account ? Any ninja trick can share

Ahh,.. yes, your trick is in itself,.. a ninja trick as well,.... rclxms.gif Using your way, you don't need to park USD2k inside a USD FCY savers acct,.... rclxms.gif

However,... do you think with all the impending development,... the USD will appreciate against the SGD in future ?

Sifu,

I m not too sure. Got to check those who are well versed. Personally a hearsay said US will go up but Sg will link to US performance. So, I think I wont go wrong by putting funds in USD and SGD instruments.

Can I say I wont get lost by following you guys. Hahahaha. Dont bring me to Holland.

my apologies to bump in.

i think the basis, if following the idea of asset allocation + sub-asset diversification, will be LOW CORRELATED currencies too, not just "Currency that is higher"
eg.
now i'm staying in MY & most of my assets are in MY denominated
Thus, i start moving some to USD denominated - eg US listed stocks, trade in US stock options

but hor, i want more "stability" in case MYR or USD spikes/falls
Thus, i move into SGD REITs & dividend stocks too

Example of high/low correlated currency pairs data
https://www.oanda.com/forex-trading/analysi...ncy-correlation

too many a-times i've read/heard people screaming & running towards "higher currency" blindly, thus.. just sharing another perspective, especially given time & fluctuation throughout the years.
no absolute right/wrong notworthy.gif

The next reporting will be around the beginning of April 2017, during which time, they will announce the 4th qtr dividend and the full yr report for 2016, + outlook for coming years. The AGM is usually held at end-April or beginning-May, 2017.

4th qtr dividend is paid around beginning of May, 2017 - quite sometime away !

So, watch the above dates, bro,... but many things will be taking place before the above dates,...

Pertaining to the rising US interest rates, Manulife has this advantage :-

It has a Weighted Average Debt Maturity of 4 Years. Whatever rise in debt interest rate this year or the next will not hit it until 4 years later. This gives it sufficient time to adjust itself to the eventual rise, if truely, the interest rates rises eventually,....

Who knows what will happen further down the road,...

Replies,... Cherry :-

a) and b) YES, please do so asap for them to record our name, and also fill it in correctly !

c) and e) Yes, you can buy in the SGD, but the outlook for the USD is better today, so, for myself, I'd prefer to buy in USD.

d) Use Prince's way, open a Stanchart Trading Acct, and activate the USD Settlement and Trading Accts. This is the fastest way !

Read from another thread that Std C need Employment Pass to open savings account. cry.gif

Main purpose of opening the account is to take advantage of the low brokerage fee (as trading minimal value). Is there any other alternative? Any idea whether they will allow to transfer directly to their securities account?

Cherry, have you called them yet ? Don't look at the other threads for now,...so much information has been superseded in the last few days. This forum has been very active in the last few days because of the currency crisis !

Lots of REITs globally denominated in the USD, but the assets may not be in The US. IF the assets are located in the US, and USD rental is earned, then there will be 30% withholding tax. So, better read the term properly, bro,...

Don't know much abt ETFs, staying away from ETFs. It's just me,... with sufficient knowledge and time, I think I can perform better by myself than earning ETF returns.
