Hi, anyone here in software engineering? Wanted to know what are programming language translation and theory of computation. Need to pick between those two for my next semester and I would prefer whichever requires more coding instead of memorizing theories.

My previous sem, only one subject I was required to code while the rest are just memorizing theories/facts for exams which really drains me.

Also if you could share electives you have taken that would be great too.

Hi, I'm starting my course soon for the Nov Intake. Since 2020 CNY is coming very early, would like to book my flight soon but I have no idea when will the holiday be for Cyberjaya campus.

Checked the academic calendar (I should check for 2019/20 Trimester 2 right?) in MMU website but there doesn't seem to be any break on CNY, except for the 2 days public holiday. Does it mean that we don't get breaks on CNY like most unis does? And if we do, any idea when will it be? I'm afraid the flights will get too expensive by the time I find out the dates when I start my course.

Usually how soon will the lecturers decide on the holidays? And usually how long will it be?
I'm from Sarawak and the flight ticket gets crazy expensive the closer it is to cny.

I'm actually quite curious on the study life in a university? How many lecturers do each students have for each sem?

The lecturer will upload the teaching plan to MMLS at the beginning of the trimester. From there you can see the planned weekly schedule. You can also discuss with the lecturer in your class, I am sure other students will chip in too.

No of lecturers depends on the no of subject that you take. Some subjects with large no of students will have more than one lecturer.

For my past experience , lecture will decide cny holiday usually 1&2 week before cny , but u can ask the lecturer to decide it earlier if u request and tell them your situation.

To be honest , attendance for classes nearing cny is around 25% , so you should know what I mean …

But In detail
Usually lecture class is handled by 1 lecturer , but some is handled by 2
For tutorial/laboratory class is handled by 1 lab instructor

Barring is when a student fail to achieve 80% of attendance.

yes u will still be barred from exam if your attendance is below 80%,
If you disregard attendance problem
it may still be a matter to u if
1)you miss a of classes
2)your lab instructor explicitly told you during that week they will conduct a quiz or other important things
3) think that lectures classes which is hard to understand yourself (rarely happen since the same content would repeat in tutorial exercise or you can ask them in the next class)



At the most you will be listed in potential barring list , like my friend which missed one 2hr lecture class in the whole semester because he need to attend his piano exam , but it's fine if you give prior notice and reason letter to the respective lecturer and lab instructor ,

I think even attendance under 80% but have valid reason they can still unbar you but please don't quote me in that , I never tried it before and would probably not try it

Can anyone here recommend any off campus accomodation? Preferably one with more locals than internationals? Budget would be below rm600, rooms would be most realistic i think

Hi guys. I am interested in taking Multimedia in MMU cyberjaya
Few months ago i visited the campus and it was not the best. MMU fees is quite a huge sum compared to university like TARC yet TARC facility seems better. Is the MMU cyberjaya good? Or is it overrated?

Perhaps you can do a quick search at other threads to see what is the general opinion too. Cant help much here as not in the field
