Greetings all seniors of MMU. Will be joining MMU cyber this Nov intake for degree in CS. Will be going alone without any friends. Any tips for a particularly shy and introvert guy to make friends while I'm in MMU?

Consider to shift to March or June instake please, otherwise it’s gonna throw off your FYP and internship later on.

What do you mean it will throw off my FYP and internship?

Searched up and down but still couldn't find anything about that, the person I email-ed didn't told me anything about the cons of Nov Intake as well.

No one will tell you that. FYP needs to be done from 2 long sems June - Feb consecutively, if you enter Nov, your sem looks like long - short - long. To make 2 long stick together, you will end up doing "final year" project in year 2, not final year, too early.

Also your internship will be before 1 more long sem, do you really wanna move out from cyber then move back just for 3 more months? You gonna have hard time finding room.

I have written up on FCI specializations and FYP.

How bad will it be if I were to still go for Nov Intake? Will it jeopardize my student life?
Should've went for July '19 intake cry.gif

Welcome to the family!

Start from your dorm and expand. Join some clubs and events. Always try to be polite.

Thanks! Will be staying in nearby off-campus accommodation, maybe Cyberia or The Arc, cannot tahan life without aircon especially the heat nowadays, so no dorm for me, guess clubs will be my only way then

guys, in the academic handbook it states that if you drop a subject in Week 1 and Week 2, you will be given a 100% refund right? I dropped it today which is 14/07/2019, a day before Week 3. Please tell me that this subject won't be included in the payments ?
*
QUOTE(Human Nature @ Jul 14 2019, 07:24 PM)
You are good. Non-refundable withdrawal starts tomorrow
*
I've never been to any uni nor do I know much about them, so please bear with me. What do you guys mean by refunding the subject? Don't we pay our fees by semester? Or do we actually pay by per subjects?

Pay per subject. For MMU, it's RM1.55k per subject
*
So basically in their brochure total tuition fees for Computer Science is 59k, meaning I will need to pass a total of 38 subjects to graduate? Or will there be cases where students take less or more than 38?

Hello guys, will be joining MMU Cyberjaya this November.

I'm looking for accommodation currently, too early I know but just surveying around first.

I guess the best ones around are The Arc and Cyberia Smarthomes. Which would the better choice in terms of comfort and environment?
Also are there any agents out there other than Aunty Jasmine in MMU's website? Their offer seems great but the rooms seems quite old and not renovated.

My current budget would be RM1k per mth for a single room (including wifi, electric bills etc.), but cheaper the better of course.

Hi, I'm starting my course soon for the Nov Intake. Since 2020 CNY is coming very early, would like to book my flight soon but I have no idea when will the holiday be for Cyberjaya campus.

Checked the academic calendar (I should check for 2019/20 Trimester 2 right?) in MMU website but there doesn't seem to be any break on CNY, except for the 2 days public holiday. Does it mean that we don't get breaks on CNY like most unis does? And if we do, any idea when will it be? I'm afraid the flights will get too expensive by the time I find out the dates when I start my course.

Usually students and lecturers will discuss on their own for nore holidays too

Usually how soon will the lecturers decide on the holidays? And usually how long will it be?
I'm from Sarawak and the flight ticket gets crazy expensive the closer it is to cny.

I'm actually quite curious on the study life in a university? How many lecturers do each students have for each sem? hmm.gif

The lecturer will upload the teaching plan to MMLS at the beginning of the trimester. From there you can see the planned weekly schedule.  You can also discuss with the lecturer in your class, I am sure other students will chip in too.

No of lecturers depends on the no of subject that you take. Some subjects with large no of students will have more than one lecturer.

QUOTE(limtenggen @ Oct 17 2019, 01:22 PM)
For my past experience , lecture will decide cny holiday usually  1&2 week before cny , but u can ask the lecturer to decide it earlier if u request and tell them your situation.

To be honest , attendance for classes nearing cny is around 25% , so you should know what I mean …

I depends on how many subject u take
But In detail
Usually lecture class is handled by 1 lecturer , but some is handled by 2
For tutorial/laboratory class is handled by 1 lab instructor
*
Thanks! Then I guess I'll approach my lecturers as soon as classes start. As for the attendance nearing cny 25%, does it matter if I'm absent during that period? As I've heard we'll be barred from exam right if we don't keep up our attendance?

You didn't quote anyone, so I guess you were talking to me right? Since I'm the only odd one out here. I'm doing CS degree in cyberjaya campus

Moved in last week and I realized something, there no chinese hawker stalls/restaurants in cyberjaya? Anyone knows where to find chinese food here (preferably cheap ones) that's not too far from MMU? I have a car here so it doesn't have to be within walking distance. So far I only know Face2Face but that's economically impossible for me to sustain that long term.

Hi all, I'm new doing degree in computer science, just done my 2nd day orientation. Not sure if I missed any parts of the orientation, but somehow we haven't been taught how to register for subjects and classes yet. Will it be taught on day 3 or are we supposed to figure it out ourselves? I did went for the faculty meet thing on day 1 but they didn't talk anything about this. Could someone teach me how to register for class?

I am pretty sure there will be a session for it. Ask the OC
*
There was an FCI briefing session but we weren't taught how to register for subjects. Asked the OCs and they said to go to the admin office (where is it) on Monday and ask them how to do it. Asked few of my groupmates too and none of them have enrolled for classes nor know how to do it.

Or could someone please help me out and teach me here? I got to the Student Center part but I have no idea how to continue as everything is very confusing.

What I did was I go to "Plan by my requirements", added all of them to my planner. This is my first year so I have to do all 4 subjects offered I assumed. Selected all of these and moved to my trimester.
Now it gets confusing at this part, I searched for classes at the enroll part from "My Planner", yep all subjects turned out so good so far, but when I select one of them, I come to a page with multiple sections. For one of the subjects for example, I have TC01 to TC02, and TT01 to TT04. Am I supposed to choose a class from each section? Or should I just choose one for example TC01 and TT01 only for the subject? The schedule looks very confusing too with no master plan of other subjects, do I need to compare them one by one to make sure the subject's class do not conflict with other subject's class?

Sorry for so many questions, I'd very much appreciate the help from seniors here..

I cant help much as I have never used the system. Don't worry, you will get your subject registered. First thing on Monday morning, head over to your faculty's office. Ask for direction. At the office, meet the admin officer and tell him/her about your situation.

Also, ask for your programme schedule (Nov intake). From here, you will know which subject to take in each trimester.

Hope other seniors may chip in on the subject registration thing.

1 lecture session and 1 tutorial section for each subject, so if you choose TC01 lecture session for that particular subject, you have to choose the tutorial section that caters for tc01 lecture..
Like for example, my subject code has 2 lecture session. SE1 and SE2. I chose SE1 lecture session, so I need to choose one tutorial section which is either SE1A,SE1B,SE1C or SE1D (depending on how many tutorial classes are open). If I were to choose SE2 lecture session, I would need to chose tuto section of either SE2A,SE2B and so on and so forth..

Yes, you have to compare each and every lecture and tutorial/lab sessions to make sure there are no conflicts.
*
I see, thanks a lot for the help! I see some lecture sessions are labelled "Closed", does it mean the lecture hasn't session haven't been opened yet, or is it fully booked?

For the time schedule, for whichever sessions I choose will it be the same throughout the semester?

It's either fully booked or the capacity is limited by the faculty.
Yes, same throughout unless you amend within the registration add/drop period.
*
Then that's very odd as I have one subjects with two lecture sessions available, but both of them are closed..

Also for lectures that have 1 sessions, but with two time schedule under that lecture, do we have to go for both? Or does it mean we can choose 1 from the either 2 sessions?

Check with faculty on the closed classes.

Yup for lecture. Yeah guess I'll have to find the admins for help. Any idea what time will the office be open?

Thanks a lot for the help. I've checked the apps and camsys today and somehow I already have subjects as well as timetable schedule done for me. Guess the new system now is that for new students the subjects and schedules will be automatically selected for us?

Sadly I have 5 days of classes per week, is this usual in MMU? I have friends from other unis only having 3-4 days of classes per week.

Okay that's good. Impossible they will leave new student out. Yes, it is normal to have 5 days of classes. When the class has more sections or when there are electives, you may be able to arrange your timetable.
*
Yes it's odd how we weren't briefed regarding this matter. All of my groupmates in the same faculty were so confused. I see, guess I can't run from the 5 days class per week then.

Quite normal … although it is possible to have 4 day of classes
If you register for the classes early  for the next semester
If I remembered correctly they will automatically register the subject for freshies … I wonder why they didn't tell you guys …
I saw your comment for some time ago but I thought maybe the procedure has changed …
*
Hopefully I can get 4 days of classes for next sem. Will the next semester subjects be automatically given to us like the first sem or do we have to manually register?

Yeah all freshies didn't know about this and only got our timetable on Sunday. Nearly went to school early on Monday morning to sort this out. Suggestions for people handling the orientation, maybe have a debrief sessions after every orientation to know the mistakes and stuffs and to jot it down for the next batch of OCs so the same thing won't happen for the next intake? Don't get me wrong I appreciate you guys spending your own personal time for the orientation although it wasn't perfect thumbup.gif
